Physical Appearance:April is a tall girl, well-muscled and tanned from plenty of physical activity. She generally wears her long black hair tied up in a ponytail, though she does occasionally leave it hanging around her shoulders. She has a fairly slim figure for her height, with a modest chest and bony hips that she’s not the least bit self-aware about. At 5ft 11, she towers over most other girls and quite a few guys, but if that’s a source of concern for her, it certainly doesn’t show.
Her features are sharp and angular, but pretty in a boyish way. April is not a beautiful woman by any stretch of the imagination, nor is she particularly ‘cute’ – but she is pretty, in her own outdoorish fashion. She’s often got some manner of smile of grin fixed to her face, showing off the sizeable chip in her front tooth, a souvenir from younger days when her control of her powers was not as fine as it is currently.
Attire: When out of her uniform, April’s usually wearing boots, outdoor pants, some sort of tank-top and her signature leather jacket; she also has a cowboy hat that she’s very fond of, though she generally has enough restraint not to wear it in public places.
Personality
Innate & Outward Personality:April is outgoing, energetic, and wild. She can be an almost inexhaustible font of good cheer and activity, always ready to laugh or tease good-naturedly. April’s very quick to form opinions of people, both good and bad, and tends to stick to them; she’ll be very loyal to a fast friend, but will have a lot of trouble getting over a bad first impression. Her pride is practically non-existent, and she’s very fond of self-deprecating humor over her boyish appearance or strange mannerisms.
In terms of temper, April is a very easily frustrated person; incompetence and unhelpfulness drives her up the wall, and she won’t hesitate to make her displeasure known. As a result of her upbringing, she largely fetishizes notions of ‘cowboy-ism’ – she believes everyone should live free and easy, helping each other out, and is deeply offended whenever she thinks someone’s freedom is being infringed upon. April has some pretty severe troubles with authority, which hasn’t exactly helped her out in her career as a RAVEN agent. She’s very fond of exercising the freedom she believes everyone’s entitled to, giving her the not-undeserved appearance of a foul-mouthed wild girl.
Inwardly, however, April is a deeply principled person who often worries that she isn’t living up to the ideals that her uncle drilled into her. She’s particularly conflicted by her work with RAVEN – on one hand, she knows it’s an important system to prevent criminal metas from wreaking havoc; on the other, her disregard for procedure and her natural distrust of authority has long grated against her career choice.
Hobbies/Interests:Horseback riding, hiking, shooting, partyin’. Since she came to the city, she’s also picked up ‘parkour’ through the use of her powers, though any real enthusiast would probably call what she does cheating.
Skills/Talents: April has the full set of training to be expected from a RAVEN operative, making her quite skilled at both hand-to-hand combat and marksmanship, though the majority of her fighting style is informed by her uncle’s instruction. Another skill she learned from her uncle is criminal investigation, having been brought to work quite often by the old lawman in her youth. Also, she can ride horses pretty well, in case that ever comes up.
Goals/MotivationApril wants to make the world a better place and live up to her uncle’s example as an enforcer of the law and as a human being.
History/Bio:April was born in a Phoenix, Arizona Her parents were both killed in a car crash very soon after she was born, leading to her being raised by her Uncle Bill, the old sheriff of a small town about an hour away where her parents had grown up. Bill was an old, childless man, but he did the best he could to raise the girl – which is to say, he taught her how to shoot a gun, ride a horse, win a man, and ‘live life like a cowboy’.
This idyllic upbringing was put on hold when April’s powers manifested at the age of 13. When it first happened, she had an enormous amount of difficulty controlling them, and spent a great deal of time sliding around on her belly crashing into walls before she learned a modicum of control. In spite of this, she opted out of learning to control her powers at an academy, choosing instead to self-train, a decision she swears by even though it’s probably adversely affected her abilities in the long run. After a while, her life went back to almost normal.
When she graduated from high school she was left with no particular academic talent, no career prospects and no desire (or money) for higher education. April had long dreamed of following in her beloved uncle’s footsteps as an enforcer of the law, and while there weren’t a lot of towns in need of a sheriff, the organization RAVEN was always hiring. A few months later she was enrolled in the RAVEN academy, in training to join the ranks of the meta-cops.
The skills of April’s upbringing proved useful in the academy, and she achieved some of the highest scores in her class in hand-to-hand combat and marksmanship. No, her skills weren’t the reason it took four years for April to graduate rather than the usual two; that was her attitude. Her disregard for protocol and inability to resist back-sassing her superiors checked her progress at every turn, and when she finally did graduate to become a field agent, there were whispers among academy higher-ups that the decision was made solely to get her out of her instructors’ hair.
Nevertheless, April was assigned work as a field operative in Baybridge. She hasn’t had much in the way of field work yet, which has given her a lot of time to wrestle with her doubts about her career choice. For now, though, she’s content to do her job, hoping that everything will fall into place sooner rather than later.

Abilities
Power Class: OtherOther
Power: April has the power to project a near-skintight field around herself that renders everything inside it utterly immune to friction. While the field is active, her body is governed entirely by inertia, allowing her to skate around at very high speeds with fairly little effort. The field also doubles as a minor shock absorber, taking a measure of force out of impacts she sustains – a collision that would kill anyone else would be merely bone-breaking for her.
Limits:She’s not immune to wind-resistance, nor gravity, so momentum will still be lost when traveling uphill or into the wind. April’s powers also don’t provide any way of gaining momentum, just keeping it, so she needs a boost if she wants to go really fast.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks: For starters, she can’t really keep a grip on anything while her powers are active – unless it’s trapped in her hands or cupped to her chest, anything she’s carrying will pretty much slide/fly right out of her hands, so any gear needs to be strapped to her back and too much will weigh her down.
April also has a large amount of trouble maneuvering while her powers are active – she needs a long window of time (or a parachute) to come to a stop without crashing into something, and her ability to turn is basically limited to suggesting herself in a different direction. She can exert a slight modicum of control by deactivating and reactivating her power in short succession, but this both causes a lot of skidding and loses a lot of momentum and is also very hard to do without falling over and eating pavement (hence the broken tooth).
Other: [*In the field, April carries an M4 carbine and a Glock 24.]
[*She lives in a decent apartment in West Woodlake, and drives around an absolute rustbucket of a truck that she’s very fond of.]
