Dallen agreed practically without hesitation before he cleared his throat and between drags of his cigarette started to explain "Rule number one, never stay in one place for too long. You never know if-" but at that moment she recognised one of the men from back in the Desperado as he gave Dallen a friendly slap on the shoulder before and pulled a chair up. Seconds later he was joined by a very thin but smirky girl, Annelise glancing between the two of them for a moment before she continued her work.

The older man spoke calmly, his voice almost soothing in its tone “You must be the fine fella’ Donna’ hired. Now I don’t know what your job is, nore do I need to know. However the lady’s gettin’ impatient so i’m gonna’ need to go back knowin’ what the status on that is.”

It was a question, but phrased in a totally none-threatening manner, one that elicited a friendly enough response from Dallen with a brief comment about the girl’s age.
"Jobs done, as of just a few seconds ago." he explained with a knowing glance in her direction. Annelise took a second to realise the implications of his gesture and what he said and she slowly glanced down the corridor he had disappeared down.

Her attention however was diverted when the young woman asked “Whatcha doing over there, vaultie?” as she stared at the rifle and pile of discarded components that was once the laser pistol.

Annelise snapped her attention back to the rifle in front of her as she explained “Fixing my AER9” as she tightened the last section of the alloy casing and started to fine tune the emitter “Some thick headed raider scum wasn’t being very polite so I had to aggressively introduce the crystal array to his face” she gestured to the old shattered array that was covered in dried bits of blood and gore as she subconsciously rubbed the dark ring of bruises around her neck.

She finalised what she was doing with the rifle just as Dallen stubbed out his cigarette before immediately lighting another one "Shall we?" he asked as he got up, his conversation with the other man fairly short.

Annelise quickly stuffed the remains of the pistol and components into her satchel as she examined the pair of newcomers once more. She spotted the small leather book and the metalic cross on the older man and quickly and wondered if he was some kind of priest, if priests even still exist out here that was. The girl had a few cuts and bruises, looking as battered as Annelise felt and she wondered what it was she’d had to endure out here. Both of them, like everyone else out here could do with a good long bath she considered briefly at the layer of dirt and grime covering them.

She got the impression that Dallen didn’t know the pair, but he didn’t seem too interested in introducing himself either. She was starting to get the impression he was a man of few words who generally didn’t waste much time with unnecessary pleasantries. She stood and nodded a greeting to the possible preacher and commented “Nice to see you made it out of that place alive” making reference back to when they’d both huddled behind the bar in the Desperado yesterday.

As they stood and began to make their way out she found that she was walking beside the girl as Dallen and the other man continued to talk about whatever this job was. She rolled her eyes as a cloud of smoke drifted back into her face and she resisted the urge to cough and she instead introduced herself as she shouldered her rifle “I’m Annelise, by the way”. She considered introducing Dallen too but decided against it for the time being, after all if he wanted to he could do it himself she was sure.

@CGinger Hey, no problem at all.

All I've worked on so far is my character's introduction post, so nothing really wasted at this point. I can finish that and get it up once the ball is rolling.

I'm guessing the first round of posting will be our character introductions and what not before heading to this recruitment event kinda thing?
We should at least wait until Monday before we think about doing anything.

Don't wanna hijack another mans RP unless they are truly gone.
Annelise kept working, occasionally her hand darting out to grab another handful of sugar bombs as she disassembled the pistol and replaced the primary components of the AER9. Her hands moved quickly and precisely as she refitted the crystal arrays before she focused them with a few minute adjustments and connected the diverters. As she started to fix the carbon-fiber housing and realign the stock Dallen returned from wherever it was he had disappeared to and stuffed his sweet roll down in a few quick mouthfuls.

She stared at him for a moment before she smirked to herself and looked back down at her rifle, seemed he was as hungry as she was after all. He cleared his throat and looked at her, her attention again on him as he continued to speak as if he’d never left.

"We should, uh... Get started on that soon. I have a few errands I need to run, you can come with me if you like. Shouldn't take long. Or, we can meet again somewhere. Nice weapon, by the way."

She watched as he stuffed a few napkins into his jacket and suddenly noticed the fresh blood on his shirt. "You got red on you” she pointed out gesturing to the spot just below his ribs as she glanced back down and continued tinkering with her AER9 for a few more moments.

"Listen, this probably goes without saying," he started, taking out a cigarette and pausing to light it up. "Where we're going, there might be...people, after us. It'll be dangerous. I don't know who might be after this. We just stay low, we should be fine. No one is looking for us yet."

She met his gaze again and stared at him briefly for a moment as she thought about what had just happened and what she quickly realised was a fresh wound. She glanced over to the direction that he’d disappeared to for what must have been less than five minutes and back at him as she put together the facts.

A suspicious expression covered her face as she continued to stare at him and she seriously considered what it was that might have just happened. Seconds later the expression was gone and she went back to what she was doing and shrugged as she said “well, if we both need to get something from inside that vault then it makes sense to work together. But if we do then you have to tell me everything you know about that vault and what exactly it is you want from there.” She hesitated briefly and looked up to meet his gaze with the most serious expression she could muster and added "And if we’re going to be working together I want you to tell me everything thats going on. I mean I haven’t been out here long but I get the picture that everything out here is fucked, like really fucked. I know that to survive you have to do things that aren’t exactly glamorous in the slightest.”

Again she paused briefly and she took the opportunity to finish the rest of her coffee too before she finished “What I mean to say is don’t sugar coat things for me. I need to know how to not die out here and I get the impression that you’re someone who can handle themselves.”

She continued to stare at him to see what his response would be, she still didn’t know exactly what kind of man he was but he’d shown her more kindness than anyone else out here and hadn’t yet tried to take advantage of her in anyway. She wanted him to know that she was serious, that she wasn’t just some vault-girl who had no idea about what life out here was really like.
Excellent! I too shall smoke some weed today ...get working on my post!

Love the idea of Dallen killing Rickman brutally before returning for breakfast like nothing happened.
Hello to everyone. This topic pertains primarily to those who reside in the United Kingdom, though certainly isn’t limited to just folks who do. I just wanted a platform to discuss and express myself regarding this piece of legislation as it is something I feel is one of the most important issues at the moment and would like to see what others opinions are on this.

I have previously corresponded with our new dearly democratically elected leader Theresa May when she was home secretary and intend to do so once more now she is PM in the format of an open letter. Unfortunately this will likely never reach her and even if it does her response will likely be a simplistic copy paste job quoting the letter of the law that implies the points I have raised are obsolete (same as the last response I got). Regardless I feel I must do this, as if we don’t tell our leaders that they’ve crossed the line then we risk losing the façade of democracy that so many gave so much to achieve (regardless of my own feelings on the current model of our ‘democracy’).

Anyway.

What is the Snoopers Charter and why should I give it any thought?
Well, our delightful government have just passed legislation that gives them an unprecedented amount of power when it comes to spying on us, its citizens. (Yup, even more power than the NSA had in the good ol’USA – in fact we now have the most oppressive internet laws out of… every single democratic county in the entire world). How did we get here? Why in the world did our government feel the need to acquire more power than that of any other democratic nation? Should we care? What can we do if anything?

So, what is it?

The Snoopers Charter is the nickname for the ‘Investigatory Powers Act 2016’ – it was first introduced by Theresa May when she was Home Secretary. The bill calls for the bulk collection of all of our personal data and gives the police and security services the power to intercept our electronic communication – ie who we talk to, where we are and what we are looking at online. This law applies to every single citizen, not just those who are suspected of a crime. So whoever you are, our government will be able to access our internet and calling history from the last year – creating a system of mass surveillance in the UK.

What? I thought the world fixed this with Snowden and GCHQ?
Well, while Edward did shake the world and reveal the extent of the global surveillance program that was run by the NSA in close cooperation with their British counterpart, GCHQ. In the good ol’USA this lead to wide criticism and outrage from the population and a curtailment of state spying powers, we in England instead made it legal for the security services to continue doing what they already doing behind our backs.

So why should I be furious about this?

Our government is lying to us. Theresa May and her colleagues claim that this bill is necessary to protect us from terrorism. But did you know there is no evidence at all that mass survailence has ever thwarted a terrorist attack. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/18/opinion/mass-surveillance-isnt-the-answer-to-fighting-terrorism.html?_r=0

Power is being abused. Do you trust our security services enough to not abuse their power? If so you may be a bit too naïve. There is already a similar act in place (the Regulation of Investigatory Powers act) in relation to local councils as the evidence there isn’t good. They’ve abused it to spy on dog walkers, mounted an operation to check on the ‘proper movement of pigs’ whatever that means, investigate a ‘fraudulent escort agency’ and spied on a ‘tarmac resurfacing service’ – and that’s just what a few councils have done. Can you imagine the level of abuse this will open us all up to should anyone with a personal vendetta get access to any of this information.

It makes us more vulnerable to cyber crime. The law allows our government to request companies like Apple and WhatApp to remove encryption when they request it. Remember the recent dispute between the FBI and Apple? This was all about protecting people as once an encryption method has been ‘weakened’ for the governments to access, it means it’ll inevitably become weaker to cyber-attacks and hackers, meaning we as a country will be far more vulnerable to cybercrime and identity theft than our international counterparts.

It affects the freedoms of our journalists. Under the new law journalists will no longer be able to promise whistle-blowers and other vulnerable sources that their sensitive information will not be compromised. Why? Because the government will be spying on all of their communications/ How can they work with sensitive information or make controversial state secrets public if they don’t even have freedom from surveillance?

Most importantly, other countries don’t have to put up with this! Edward Snowden has called the Snoopers Charter ‘the most intrusive and least accountable surveillance regime in the west’ and he is right. No other democratic nation spies on its citizens this way. Isn’t it good that we are now joining the ranks of Russia and China as countries that choose to abuse the privacy rights of its citizens for no proven national security gain?

What can I do to stop this, you may ask.
Unfortunately the bill has already passed in both houses of Parliament so this system of mass surveillance will soon become a reality for us. Luckily there are a few ways to keep yourself safe and keep your data away from prying government eyes. Use a VPN (Virtual proxy network) , the law mentions nothing about using these to protect your information. Preferably one based outside of the UK, for example Germany where they still have strict privacy laws that ban the storage of personal data like this. I won’t suggest any, but if I were you it is time to educate yourself on how to stay protected online. That is unless you of course don’t mind each and everything you’ve ever looked at on the internet or your phone, each conversation and with whom, being saved and browsed through by our government at their will without any just reason or cause.

Benjamin Franklin once said (maybe):
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Seems like we are going down a bad route.

Now on top of all of this there was recently a stealthy attempt to censor a huge amount of pornography in the UK by amending the 2003 communication act, which went through. Now my point here isn’t about pornography, but just in case anyone cares about that, here is a list of what acts are now banned in our little pleasure videos in the UK:

The point here though, is this will allow our government to put in place a system to block things on the internet (think of the children you monster!). Initially this will be the previously mentioned acts, but once the infrastructure is in place it can easily be used to censor anything else they don’t want us to see.

I don’t like at all where things are going. First the EU is left (won’t get into that whole kettle of fish), which guaranteed us as citizens protection under the EU human’s rights act. Now of course we don’t have this (or won’t at some point in the near future) and we will be open to whatever bill our lovely government wants to press us into… based on our new oppressive surveillance laws I wouldn’t say the future looks very free at all.
Hey guys, just wanted to say I'm enjoying reading along with all your posts. Some great characters and great writing too.

Been watching this one for quite a while and have been considering submitting an application should you still be interested in newcomers.

I'd be interested in playing a more villainous role, a Mage from the Magnus empire. My idea is quite… different shall we say, to the current roster of characters. I've been working on it slowly and will aim to have it up today.
It may be a bit OP, which is my only concern… anyway, we can see what you think when I'm done. Just thought I'd say hello and let you know of my intentions.
Good things come to those who wait I guess.

I've been slowly working on an introduction post, something on the lengthier side to get the character established and put in somme cool stuff. I figure it can fit in before this recruitment event, depending exactly what @CGinger has in mind. Either way keeps me busy.

Definitely looking forwards to this.
Yeah, I suppose all of that makes sense.

The 'pros' around New Reno aren't questioned so much. Just the newer meat packing anything really. Possibly Annelise was with Dallen, so no-one said anything?

Let's say that.
Excellent post, as always.

But I feel we do need the weapon situation cleared up, after all Annelise has whacked out full tilt weaponry and is repairing it on the table casually. Feel it would be difficult for her to do that if her shizz was confiscated upon entry.

That or we can just ignore and smooth over that inconsistency and say she did it another time or something. Whatever works for me.

@Kingfisher Oh, checking for Sol's sake, but you gonna do something for Rickman as GM or is he fair game for whatever in the post?
Either way I'll probably get a post up sometime tomorrow.
