NAME: Marcus Vanir
SPECIES: Human
AGE: 32
GENDER: Male
PERSONAL PROFILE: Marcus, to put it shortly, is not a nice person. He's lost too much, and he simply doesn't care anymore. As such, he comes across as arrogant and reckless, and tends not to give a damn about other people's opinions. He's not one to come up with plans, but at the same time isn't the sort of person to sit back and blindly do as he's told. He's more likely to go along with the overall consensus until a more preferable opportunity presents itself.
He's a survivor - and he'll do whatever it takes to stay alive. Whatever the job, whatever the pay, he isn't above doing anything.
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: Almost identical to the picture, apart from being covered in scars all over his body. He's been in a lot of fights, and it shows.
Exactly 6' tall.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: Marcus received basic military training when he enlisted with the Alliance, which was further developed when he abandoned them for Cerberus. Since he left the terrorist organisation, he's become something of a brute. He'll rush into combat with barely any regard for his life, which makes him fight that bit harder whilst unnerving his opponents.
- As strong as you'd expect a lifelong soldier to be.
- Trained to use all military-grade weapons. (assault rifle, shotgun, pistol, sniper rifle etc)
- Confident enough to unnerve more weary enemies.
BIOGRAPHY: Born in a colony on Elysium, Marcus' early childhood was relatively peaceful. His parent's were both scientists, researching the uses of Element Zero in more advanced weaponry. He spent his free time playing with his sister Elana, who had been born exactly a year after him, and neither of them had a care in the world.
That changed on his sixteenth birthday, however. His parent's believed that they had made an astounding discovery in their field of research, and arranged for transport to be made to Earth to demonstrate their new-found technology. Marcus wasn't happy about being so suddenly uprooted, but quickly realized that his arguments were doomed to failure. His family boarded a ship and set course for Earth, his parent's sure that this was the start of a prosperous new life for them. All went well for the first few days of travel, until one day they were attacked by pirates. They were undoubtedly after his parent's research, but in the chaos of the fighting it was destroyed. His father was killed, his sister disappeared and his mother was taken captive. He watched as his mother was taken and tried to go after her, but was pulled away by a fellow passenger, who forced him into an escape pod and away from his family. The man was an Alliance soldier, and after days spent trying to ignore him, Marcus was finally talked into enlisting. Believing his entire family to be dead or worse, he saw it as the best opportunity for a new life.
He joined up as soon as he was able, and remained a soldier until he was 28. Then one day, whilst on leave to the Citadel, he was approached by a woman he looked strangely familiar. She revealed that she was Elana, and had been rescued from the incident in much the same way as he had been - the only difference being that she was rescued by an undercover Cerberus operative rather than an Alliance soldier.
He remained with her for the remaining week of his shore leave, and on his final day went to say goodbye. Unexpectedly though, she flat out refused to say goodbye, and instead begged him to go AWOL from N7 and join Cerberus with her. Knowing that she was the only family he had left, he eventually consented.
His time with didn't last. They were both assigned to the Normandy SR-2 under the newly resurrected Commander Shepard, and whilst never having any direct contact with Shepard or the other high ranking operatives, they did catch glimpses of them from time to time. The life seemed somewhat romantic for a time, travelling alongside the esteemed commander, and he started to believe that he could enjoy his time in Cerberus, despite his concerns about the exact nature of the organisation.
One day, Elana was sent off on a scouting operation on Omega, surveying the state of the planet before Shepard and his team went down there themselves. He and the rest of the crew waited for days for her and her squad to return, but they never did. They had been caught up in a clash between two local merc groups, and had all been killed in the resulting firefight. Completely broken, Marcus fled the ship and ended up scraping the bottom of the barrel on Omega, resorting to the life of a petty criminal.
He lived day by day - taking whatever job he could find. Mostly mercenary or bodyguard work, due to his skillset, and had resigned himself to the idea that this was now his life. Despite all this, he was still glad to have left Cerberus. When asked by anyone who knew enough about his past, he simply replied with:
"I'm a lot of things, but that shit's too dark even for me."
