These are just a few of the factions. Anyone has any ideas for more, let me know. I'll put up more soon. Anyone shows more interest I'll start working on the first quests.
You can RP however you want of course, but the major factions will offer quests.

The CSA is currently undergoing major change. The changing political climate-with a great upheaval of liberal opinion in the Congress-has caused two factions to emerge over the question of slavery. On the one hand are the hardline pro-slavery side, known as the "hawks". On the other, the liberal anti-slavery "doves". In two months Congress will vote on the Potter Bill- a piece of legislation that could spell the beginning of the end for the slaveholding elite that wield huge influence. Slave rebellions, criminal gangs, and other powers are constantly making life even more complicated.

Factions

Confederate States of America-President Jake Featherton

Confederate Army

Armed forces of the CSA. Called "Greys" due to their drab uniforms, they are armed with the Tredegar TR-70 assault rifle. Their duties include fighting the CSA's enemies, hunting escaped slaves, and providing internal security. Their commander is General Robert Leroy, based out of Richmond.

Internal Security Agency

The CSA's secret police and internal security apparatus. Known for their ruthless nature and violence. They favour aggressive action against the Confederacy's enemies, including assassination, sabotage, and torture. They are led by Director Kenneth Grayson.

Office of Congressional Investigation

The OCI is the Confederate Congress' investigation division. Less violent than the ISA, the OCI is the Congress' way of countering the far more aggressive members of the Confederacy.

De Vries and Cooper syndicates

Two rival crime organisations based in all over the CSA. They deal drugs, push women, and contract assassinations.

I have to say I didn't expect confrontation so quickly! I kinda didn't wanna actually attack anyone.
Besides this isn't an exhaustive list
Well it's essentially a Communist assault on the West, with different fronts experiencing vicious fighting. Think Red Storm Rising. And South Africa circa 1979 was no friend of the West. Apartheid made it a pariah, and it had been suffering trade embargoes for years.
Okay, so the premise is simple. In late 1979 a conventional war breaks out between the East and West. Fighting on every continent which will last for over a decade. Other conflicts will flare up too. I'll not go into major detail until I get some interest, but for now I'll put up a brief summary of the factions and a CS.

Tom Carson drummed his fingers impatiently on the side of the lift as the doors slid open to the docking bay, revealing his home for the next while. Not the best looking ship he'd ever seen, but he knew full well that a ship didn't need to look good to fly like a gem. Carson crossed the landing bay, his large pack slung over one shoulder and his Mattock over the other. He climbed the ramp, wondering how they were gonna track down and kill a Spectre when the council didn't even believe that he was dirty.

The message had come through on his omni-tool after he had completed a simple data intercept for his Cerberus handler, a man who he knew as Kosk. Since he knew that there wouldn't be any contact from Kosk for the next while, Carson had accepted. Gotta pay the bills somehow.

Carson had left his apartment on the 37th Ward after packing his kitbag, heading for the ship.

He walked about the ship for a couple of minutes, checking some of the sights. He settled on the armoury as his berth. Setting his stuff down on the tabletop Carson went looking for his crewmates.

Carson had been looking for the captain for a couple of minutes when he walked into the medbay. His eyes widened as he took in the sight of a Turian holding a wicked looking blade to the throat of one of the crew. His Phalanx appeared in his hand as if by magic. The laser sight settled on the apparent attacker.

“All right, Turian.” Carson spoke calmly. “I've barely had time to put my kitbag down in here. I've not met any of my team mates. And now a hostage situation? So far this mission is great. I don't know what the Hell your problem with her is, but I really think you should let her go. Talk it through.” The man held the Turian's gaze. “I have a lot of respect for your people, Turian. And I don't want to leave a corpse in the medbay before I've even met the captain of this fine vessel. But make no mistake. If you don't drop that blade of yours pretty damn quick, I'll plug you.”

Bio: Tom Carson was born on Earth, in the city of Belfast. Growing up, he always looked beyond the hidebound limitations of his surroundings, yearning to discover more of the Galaxy. He joined the Alliance military as soon as he was able, serving with distinction in many trouble spots. Over the years of service however he became disenchanted with the Alliance leadership and their seeming passivity in promoting the interests of humanity. He mustered out at the rank of Major.

He became a mercenary, selling his military abilities to whomever paid. He wasn't heartless though, and still possesses his own code of honour. Then came the Skylian Blitz. Carson was in the thick of the fighting there, earning him the sobriquet “The Iron Major” for his courage. He was also present during the strike at Torfan, where his mercenary group took heavy casualties wiping out the Batarians.

In the aftermath Carson was approached by an agent for Cerberus, a hidden organization working to promote humanity's interests in the Galaxy. Since then Carson has been a top agent for Cerberus, accomplishing some of the most dangerous and crucial tasks the Illusive Man has to offer. And always with the same objective in mind; to serve his species. Not that he was anti-alien. He respects many aspects of alien cultures, especially the Turians' deep sense of civic duty and sacrifice. But Humans deserve a fair shake in the Galaxy too, don't they?

Carson has also remained on the mercenary circuit, keeping his cover, and accepted the job offered by the Shadow Broker and join the ragtag team of adventurers, scholars, and soldiers who are preparing to take Saren on.

Equipment: M-96 Mattock, Phalanx Heavy Pistol, Scorpion Pistol, Frag Grenades, Combat Knife

Powers: Throw, Tech Armour, Warp, Overload
No worries. You can play the RP any way you want, but I'll periodically be offering missions from all factions-think of it like quests in fallout or something.
