Right. It's a train of runes that light up one at a time and stay lit. You can deactivate any rune you want, but as long as the front rune is active, it'll continue activating the rune ahead of it and so on. It's kind of like a signal being sent down a wire, and they can't stop it until they cut the wire where the signal hasn't yet reached.

I will be honest though. When the runes glowed yellow underneath us, the lights that continued, were those still other runes that haven't been deactivated?

Just to make sure we’re on the same page, two trails of runes are formed, glowing one rune after another, each moving rapidly in opposite directions. Both parties could disable any runes without much effort, but to stop them from reaching either end, the frontmost rune has to be deactivated. Are we all synced up on that or are we thinking different things? @Vacare@Franxx
