Vata closed the window in his study before sitting down at his writing desk. He had no wish to let either the noise from the street or the slightly chilly winter breeze disturb him while he worked.
Several minutes later, while he was writing a response to a student, Vata started to feel incredibly sleepy. Despite the fact that it was only several hours since sunset, he thought little of it. He had been up all of the previous night finishing an essay after all. Moments later, he caught something dark out of the corner of his eye, and then lost consciousness.
Vata woke up to a shockingly cold gust of wind blowing snow into his face. The last thing he could remember was that he was writing a response to a letter sent to him by his most recent student, but the last time he checked, writing a letter did not transport one to places unknown. He'd heard that shaping had been done through the use of runes carved into stones or written on parchment, but he'd never heard of shaping being done purely by accident or that it could allow for swift, if not instantaneous travel over distances as long as from Nishi'an to the cold mountains of the North.

He thought he could also see a couple figures in the distance, but the snow and the wind made it difficult to see. He stood up from where he was sitting and raised a hand to his face to try to keep the snow out of his eyes as he tried to get a better look at whoever, or whatever was approaching him. While this would normally grant an individual almost supernatural powers, the Earth is far separated from the Spirit Plane, and so his powers are greatly diminished. He can recover from injuries somewhat faster than normal people, and is somewhat less susceptible to disease and poison. On occasion, and out of his control, his bond with the Spirit of Inspiration allows him to share some of his abilties/knowledge with others (e.g. if someone is unable to read or write, they may be able to understand what is written, or have a very limited ability to write with him around). Very rarely, he can vaguely sense the motivations of a person.

Count me in, glad to see this back.
Nathaniel stood around in the hallway sleepily. Hopefully there was someone nearby, as he didn't want to start wandering around the ship aimlessly, especially since he didn't want to stumble into anywhere that he wasn't meant to go, like wherever the ship's power source was. Fortunately for him he heard some voices from somewhere further down the hallway. He recognized Linda's voice. Apparently they were talking about how unbelievable this entire situation was. Nathaniel considered this for a moment. In all honesty, if he hadn't been partially asleep when Qyx picked them all up, he would've nearly been hysterical. Granted, nobody would believe him when he got back, but it was amazing that he knew the answer to a question humanity had been seeking for many years. Nathaniel was so distracted by his own thoughts that he didn't notice that there was a group of people in front of him, and Linda was looking at him somewhat concerned.
"You ok, man? We're uh...just kind of exploring if you wanna join us."
Nathaniel stumbled for words as he responded, "Uh, yeah, I'm ok, just a little bit tired, but at least I'm not walking around half asleep any longer. What's there all to see on this ship? Seeing how I'll probably be on this thing for a while, I should probably get to know my way around."
