Torn Across the Rift

Vata walked a couple steps behind Xavier as Xavier led him towards his friend, who would, for whatever reason look exactly like Xavier. He decided not to ask any questions as they walked, since it could distract them from anything they might see looking around. Not that much could be seen through the snow, of course.

A moment later, Xavier stopped walking forward, and Vata nearly walked right into him since he wasn't paying attention to where he was walking. Xavier looked like he was rather concerned about something, then said, almost to himself "We should move quickly. I sense danger." With that he started to walk more quickly towards...wherever it was they were going, and Vata struggled to keep up with him through the snow. A couple minutes later the two came across a man that looked exactly like Xavier, kneeling by a fire. As they got closer, he could see that the man was kneeling by the body of another man in a long coat, who also looked similar to Xavier. At this point, Vata was extremely confused. There were three people who looked just like Xavier, and he had no idea why. He was so confused by all of this that he didn't notice the short conversation between Alex and Xavier.

"W...what is going on here? Who's that guy laying in the snow, and why do you all look the same?"

Ah, darn, didn't realize you had relocated back here from CreativeFreedom. I guess that's what I get for just waiting for something to happen and not getting in touch...

Is it too late to join in/too crowded for another person?

Vata tried to stay as still as he possibly could through the shivers when Xavier placed his hand on his shoulder. A moment later, Xavier seemed to concentrate on deeply on Vata, and then he felt something. It felt much like he did when Shaping, but there was something unfamiliar about it. The feeling vanished an instant later, and was replaced by a blessed feeling of warmth. Assuming this wasn't just his body being fooled somehow, perhaps he wouldn't spend his last moments freezing to death.

Xavier removed his hand from Vata's shoulder, and Vata quickly gave him a surprised glance. What did he just do to me? He quickly pushed the thought to the side, answers could come later, once they were in somewhere safe, and hopefully warm.

"Much appreciated, Xavier. Now that I probably won't be freezing to death anytime soon, could you lead me to this friend of yours?"

Vata blinked in surprise when the man told him that he could warm him up, but that it would require Vata to trust him. Otherwise, it could harm them in some way. Was this man a Shaper too? He pushed the thought from his head, now was not the time for questions. Idle chatter would only serve to put himself at greater risk of freezing to death.

"I have no reason not to trust you. If you wished me dead, or harmed in some way, you would have already done so. Once you...do whatever it is that will warm me up, we can go visit your friend. As for that crystal, I haven't seen it."

Vata took a moment to look around him. He couldn't see far due to the snow, but he saw his bag poking out of a drift a few steps away. He pulled it out of the snow, and turned back to Xavier.

"Right, you have my trust. Once you do...whatever you're going to do to keep me from shaking myself apart, we can go see your friend."

Vata waited in the bitter cold as the figure continued to approach him, and a moment later, he could clearly see what it was. It seemed to be another person, albeit in unfamiliar garb that did not seem suited to the weather. The man's posture didn't seem to be hostile either, which was a relief. The last thing he needed right now was a bandit trying to mug him. The oddly dressed man took a few more steps before stopping and taking a look at Vata, then began speaking.

"Hello, I am Xavier. Do you happen to know where we are?"

Vata blinked in surprise. Neither the man's name nor the way he spoke indicated that he was from the North. The situation was quickly becoming stranger by the moment. If this place wasn't in the North, where else could this be?

"Greetings, Xavier. I am Vata, and I have not a clue as to where we are. Even if I did know, it would likely not help us, since we would likely freeze long before we could reach civilization."

As if to emphasize his statement, Vata started to shiver violently as the bitter cold started to seep in.

"I-if we wish to have any chance of surviving this, I would suggest that we try to look for something to keep us warm."
