2 1/2 hours in and I'm already done with the new year. T.T
Well unless one of the others is a super die hard earth fan that can't possibly live without playing an earth aligned character... I don't see why you can't have that element. Hahaha. I'll mark it down as yours for now, and am greatly looking forward to what you do with it.
Water it is. Not a bad choice. Not set in stone until CS time, so if you change your mind again just let me know. I'll have you marked down for that element for now though.
Hehehe indeed I do. I'll keep you updated on what's going on so if you wanna hop in you may. Don't push yourself too hard though. We've got lots of work to do. ^.^
Weeeell, I have been away for a year so I can't say I'm all that surprised. I had to double take on your name as well, worried that it sounded familiar but that I didn't actually know the person behind it. But, that matters not. You remember me now. XD
I'll put you down for Fire for now then. Trying to keep everyone with their first choices as best as possible. Depending on what happens with Skwint (if they develop further interest or not) we might shuffle around? Seems like everyone has a fairly unique first choice... or at least fine with what was left available when picking. As stated before, not set in stone so if you find yourself wanting to swap with someone, that's okay as long as both of you are alright with that change.
I tried my best to make each of them as unique as possible, give the elements themselves life outside of just being a classification. ^.^
Marking you down for Aether then. It'll be quite interesting to see what you do with it, and how it will ultimately end up interacting with the Nether character.
Okay, here we go. I've gone through and done some tweaking. Some major, others not so much. I decided to include Nether just so you could see the comparisons and breakdown, however that is not one of the available elements. Everything else is up for grabs though. I urge taking a look through even if you are certain you want a particular element, just in case you want to swap to something else.
Earth:
Earth is a kind, nurturing, and steady element that requires a certain amount of patience (not to mention determination) to guide. It is the element of strength and prides itself upon being a great protector. Those aligned to this particular element find themselves master over wood as well as stone, and are the least susceptible to visual illusions. This is due to a "second sight" that allows for its users to interpret the vibrations passed through the ground into their bodies. Additionally, those that practice the ways of earthen magic tend to find themselves with greater physical strength than any other alignment, fortifying their bodies to withstand more blows and even lift three times their own body weight.
Strong against: Water, Aether, Air Neutral against: Nether Weak against: Fire Casting Type: Strong, but slow.
Water:
Water is a cunning element that will raise a person up just as quickly as it would drag another down, and is considered the second most volatile element. Yet it is an intellectual element that seeks constantly to expand its collection of information. Those alligned to its ever shifting whims can find mastery over not only the element itself, but of illusion based magic as well. Know additionally as being quite versatile, spells of the water variety can be varied in temperature ranging anywhere from geyser to arctic status. Perhaps not the strongest physically, those under water's studious gaze are not without their perks. The ability to learn and retain new information becomes second nature, this includes remembering the exact location of places, acquisition of new languages, and near perfect recall of images. This often helps when traveling to foreign lands and especially so with illusion type spells. The more you know, the stronger it is.
Strong against: Fire, Nether Neutral against: Aether Weak against: Earth, Air Casting Type: Varies depending on complexity.
Fire:
The most emotional of elements, often angry and violent. Always seeking to spread its destruction, it is the most difficult of elements to control. Alignment with this particular element cannot be taught, but must come from a natural affinity to its rash nature. Those that can master it wield explosive type magic that can be difficult to control but quite devastating. These disciples are naturally resistant to the cold and have been found to be the fastest of the alignments, fueled mostly by their own spirit.
Strong against: Earth Neutral against: Air Weak against: Water, Aether, Nether Casting Type: Explosive. Powerful, but uncontrollable and quite draining.
Air:
Air is a lighthearted element, a free spirit so to speak, but quite mischievous as well. Those under its patronage gain control over the air currents, and maybe most surprisingly... Sound. This element can be just as unpredictable as those of Fire and Water, however this is due to its creative nature. While not as powerful as its counterparts, its applications are widespread and limited only by ones imagination. They are not without their physical enhancements either. Air alignments can pick up on sounds others are likely to miss, including certain types of magics. They are also lighter, and can jump to much greater heights as well as distances than any other. If done right, it is said to be possible to hover for periods of time.
Aether is the giver of life, guardian of the spark that is creation itself. Alignment to this particular element is especially rare, and if not handled properly, dangerous. Influenced heavily by the world around them, they draw their strength from positive forces (sometimes known as holy). Lucky users of this 'element' find themselves among the few conjurers. Able to breathe life into living minions, Aether users rely on familiars to fight their battles for them. They are also known to be quite effective at healing spells, and can even grant short bursts of additional energy to their allies. These fellows are also quite lucky, almost extraordinarily so. And can innately sense future dangers, even if they do not have the ability to interpret these sensations.
Strong against: Fire Neutral against: Air, Water Weak against: Earth, Nether Casting Type: Semi-continuous. Link dependent.
Nether:
Darkness and deception taken physical form. Much like Aether users, these rare birds have no physical element to control. Instead they have mastered magic draining techniques, compelling charms, and even the ability to bend inanimate objects to their will (within reason). Their strength is drawn from curses placed upon others, and from those they have corrupted to their cause. Additionally, those aligned to the nether find themselves able to see and communicate with the dead. Some can even establish telepathic connections with those they are close to.
Strong against: Aether, Fire Neutral against: Earth Weak against: Air, Water Casting Type: Semi-continuous. Link dependent or charm based.
Love you dearly, and you are always welcome in my RPs. However, there are only 5 available elements for the 'chosen children' soooo.... We can work you into the plot another way, or if you want you can wait to see if an element goes unclaimed too. Up to you toasty friend.
Love to have you. You are correct, I do have plans to face lift them a tad although I don't forsee the main elements being changed too drastically. Hmm, I might actually end up doing that tonight that way any of you guys that are interested can take a look at what I've changed and see what still calls to you then.
Ahh, fire is feisty. Aether quite interesting. As I mentioned before, the concept for Aether might be changing from what it was originally designed for. I'll be sure to let you see the changes before you lock into one in particular, however your interest in either of those elements has been noted. ^.^
Oooh that's a good one. Something of that nature has never actually come up before, however I can see it making some good subplot points or twists. My answer to that is it will dampen their abilities.
For the version where the kids have grown up knowing about their destiny... Loss or separation from their crystal will only dampen their control. They will no longer have the same level of control over elemental magic as they did before (regular shared magic as mentioned before will remain untouched). Power is determined by their own spirit. So in theory, they might still possess the same level of power... But can no longer control their magic. Which might cause them to mistakenly injure their comrades or themselves in the process.
For the version where they are from our world, and stumble across their destiny... That will be a dampening across the board. Since they are not from a world with a lot of magic, the stone pretty much fuel everything. They will retain some level of control over their abilities but the power will not be as great. The farther they are from the stone, the weaker they become. This will include their physical inheritances as well.
Well, hopefully I'll be able to clear up any confusion for you. Each of the main five characters would be the bearer of a crystal that represented their affinity for a particular element. It is that element that will determine what kind of magic they can learn/use. There will be some kinds of spells that are shared between them (either exactly the same or with the elemental twist on it... I have not yet determined) too... Those would be things like protective shields, unlocking doors, and illusion (though this one might vary in strength or specialty depending on the element as well).
Physical enhancements will work similarly to the spells. Each of them are stronger, faster, and bear more stamina than the average person. Depending on their affinity, they will also gain specific abilities. I've copied over the list from the previous version, although looking back through it... definitely going to need do retouches to even them out.
Earth: The element of strength and focus, a force that needs a steady hand to control it. Mastery of the element allows for manipulation of wood as well as stone, the ability to find the lost or hidden and a second sight is given through vibrations travelling through the ground. A very handy tool to see around the next bend. This element also gives its users a little extra muscle to back their punches.
Water: Not as gentle as it is often made out to be. One moment a calm and tranquil element, the next a frigid foe. Understanding this allows for the sorcerer to heal as well as willing minor changes to ones own appearance through the reflection of a water source. It's more dangerous side allows the user to drastically change the temperature of the element, helpful when getting someone to talk. Water also likes to instill knowledge upon sorcers who draw strength from it, a small boost in the intelligence department.
Fire: Violent and angry, this element longs for destruction. It is the spark of life, the only physical element that creates its own existence. While it consumes much, it also gives back its warmth and loyalty to its users but promises no such things to allies. What it lacks in physical strength and intellect, it makes up for in speed. Those of the fire alignment are gifted with faster than average reflexes.
Air: Light and full of laughter, can be much more mischievous than it lets on. It can carry sounds over greater distance than one might normally be able hear from. Manipulation of scents is also a talent in addition with the naturally lighter body that, with enough practice, can jump greater heights/distances and even float along the air currents.
Aether: While fire is the spark of life, aether is life. Where other magics use physical attacks, aether users are compellers. Using the positive energy to influence the mind in different ways. Their power grows from the light and connections to sacred sights, diminishing where corruption is high. They are also dream walkers, sometimes able to speak to the dead or dying, and are granted just the slightest bit of good luck.
As per usual with elements you have your obvious ones... Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. For this RP I also added two others. Aether and Nether. Aether is definitely going to get a redo. My current thinking is that Aether will now be a conjuring type magic user. Whereas Nether is going to be a version of what I have written down to be Aether in the above hider.
"Come on, just a little farther." A tear slid down the young girl's cheek as she ran, bare feet pounding against the frost bitten earth. Her breaths escaped her lips in small, milky tufts, hair raised on her arms betraying the chill she felt. But she couldn't stop moving... She wouldn't. A terrible shriek broke the silence, echoing in the forest behind her, urging her to run faster than she had ever done before. Her heartbeat matched her footsteps; quick but steady. It was fear that shone in her green eyes, fear that could be heard in her voice, but ultimately it was her determination that pushed her onward, running farther and farther into the night.
A luminescence around her neck caught her attention briefly as she pressed on. A black stone tethered to a silver chain had sprung to life, tendrils of a glowing green mist twirled around the object signaling the beginning of something much larger. The girl's steps did not falter even at this as she forced every ounce of her strength into a final burst of speed. A few more paces and she had all but reached her destination, crashing through the final lining of trees into an unusually rounded and even clearing. The moon, quite full in its current cycle, shone down unobstructed, bathing the girl in its light. As she neared the center of the clearing, she lifted her chin to gaze up at it, inhaling deeply and releasing a sad sigh.
By this point the mist had spread from the stone, surrounding the girl's body as she prepared herself for what was to come. The shrieks grew ever closer, glowing eyes seeming to appear from all sides, boxing her in to her current location. Creatures of darkeness surrounded her though they hesitated at the edge of the clearing, mindful of the light that would weaken their strength.
"You have me outnumbered, scores of you to one of me... Do you fear me that much that you would waste your chance now, when victory is all but yours?" She yelled out, addressing each and every one of the creatures that hunted her. Despite the fear that gripped her heart, she would not falter now. She would not give them the satisfaction. "It matters not, you will lose in the end. Just as you have now." As the words left her, nightmarish creatures charged at her from all sides, drawn in by her taunt. But all was in vain as the girl clasped a hand around the black stone, her eyes now mirroring the glowing green that had begun to fill the space surrounding her. "Éveiller!" In that instant, the mist appeared to ignite, causing the stone to rapidly expand. Any creature that had closed in met their end, the stone devouring each one it came into contact with as it grew. It planted itself into the ground, expanding outward some, but mostly growing taller until it had become a misshapen monolith. The same shrieks as before filled the air, now fueled with anger at having lost their prey; a girl they now assumed to be just as dead as their fallen comrades.
Responding to an unheard call, the remaining hunters drew back, returning to their masters so that they may await their next targets. Though it would be quite some time before the darkness would awaken, it seems their opportunity draws ever nearer.
Hello! My name is WeepingLiberty as I'm sure you can see, but you can call me Libby for short. I am a long time stalker member of this site, as well as the RP community as a whole. Been here since before the GuildFall, and have reclaimed my username so if you have returned from way back then and recognize the name... Fear not, it's still me. Beyond that though, I have been around quite a bit of the new and improved Guild as well, and have just recently returned from a hiatus that lasted me just about one year. Couldn't stay away I guess, lol.
But introductions aside, I'm here with an interest check that's stuck with me since my early days of Roleplaying. (We are talking Rescreatu forums early days... Scary I know). For whatever reason, its premise just draws me back in every time I take a break from writing... Or want to start something of my own from scratch. For whatever reason though, it hasn't quite taken off since trying to reboot it for the first time. Usually comes down to conflicting schedules sadly. But not this time... I am determined. I have a lot more free time now that I am no longer in school... And my shifts tend to be pretty short, or spread apart depending on the week. So! Without further ado, allow me to stop rambling and explain a few things about the RP itself...
The original idea was to have the story take place some time in the future. A set of five kids all born on the same day, in the same town... Not very plausible albeit, but plot... The setting was the same as the mysterious girl in the piece above just later in the timeline (unfortunately I don't think I ever established exactly how much time, so I can play with that a little bit)... Nothing modern, definitely a fantasy setting... not much in the ways of technology. But not stone age or barbaric either... Not so important right now.
As I'm sure you are expecting right about now, yes these five kids were kids of prophecy... or at least kind of. They were known to posses magical abilities that had long since been out of the use of average Joe. Physical enhancements as well, and all knew each other and trained for a very specific purpose... The day that they would set out on their adventure and follow their destiny as the Chosen Children... Like I said though, this was the original idea/might have been tweaked slightly when I rebooted. In the hider tab below, I will include the links to the Interest Check thread as well as for the RP thread so you can take a better look if you would like.
Now, that you know what was originally planned... If you like that version, we can continue that route. Dusted off, spoofed up, and ready for your RPing pleasure. ^.^ I would also like to extend the opportunity for those of you still intrigued to offer your own input into the matter.
I have been considering that maybe we add in a modern touch... Have the kids (whether friends or random encounter) be from a city, or town in our universe, and just so happen to stumble across a door of some kind that leads to the fantasy realm. It is there that they discover their compatibility with a set of stones that bestow magical abilities that they have to learn to use while undertaking a life threatening journey to save both the fantasy world as well as their own... Please dont mind that terribly long, run on sentence... But I think you get the point I was trying to get across. hehehe
All in all, I want this to be a fun and unique small group adventure. Casual, maybe even semi-advance when we feel like it... But as much as this is my baby, I do value the input and ideas of my RP partners so... If you think you might be interested in this general concept, but think of something that might add to its cool factor, then by all means please share. ^.^ I will also be hanging around (or will respond ASAP) to any questions about my current thought process on it, as well as details about the previous attempts.
Greatly looking forward to working with you, and touching up something that has been with me almost my entire writing career.
I just got back from a bit of a hiatus so I'm thinking a 1v1 or small group might be a good starting point to ease back into RPing. There's a few things in your list of interest that I tend to really like... But your original post was give or take 2 months ago right? Anything in particular you are leaning more towards right now? I would hate to annoy with a request for something you get a bunch, or might already have similar going at the moment.
