I was born in the wagon of a traveling show. My momma used to dance for the money they'd throw. My papa would do whatever he could: preach a little gospel, sell a couple bottles of Doctor Good.
A quick note on the Patrons, if anyone wants to share a Patron that would be fine. You would have to take the same benefits and drawbacks as the person who created them, and decide who controls the Patron. If anyone wants to do that instead of rolling, you should ask the creator of the Patron.
I've taken a minor canon character and pretty much turned her into an OC here.
Name - Amy Sue Allen
Alias - Bombshell
Age - 17
Sponsor - Captain Atom
Personality - Resentful, Guilty, Scared
Experience - A short crime spree before being captured.
Powers - She is coated by an alien metal, the same as Captain Atom. She is nearly invulnerable to blunt force, has a measure of superhuman strength (enough to lift and throw a small car), and can fly. She can also shoot weak energy blasts.
Weaknesses - She is unable to remove her metal skin as it is still bonding to her. If it is cut or pierced in any spot on her body, her powers will temporarily shut down while it repairs itself.
Appearance -
BRIEF Bio - Before she became Bombshell, Amy Sue was a girl running with the wrong crowd. After she became unwittingly involved in a murder committed by her friends, Amy Sue was sentenced to a youth detention facility. Before she was incarcerated, a shady group offered to erase all records of her crimes in exchange for her participation in their experiments. She was accepted, and the group tried to recreate the procedure used on Captain Atom. They were partially successful, but they were unable to fully connect her to the quantum field Captain Atom uses. This resulted in her weaker energy powers.
Instead of releasing her like they said they would, the group kept Amy Sue in containment so they could study her before repeating the experiment. After a couple months, Captain Atom discovered the group, and raided their labs. Amy Sue, now calling herself Bombshell, managed to escape during the confusion, and went back to her hometown, hoping to find help with her old friends. When the first one she visited got scared and tried to run away, Bombshell snapped and started attacking random buildings. Captain Atom was able to catch her and calm her down. Once he got the full story from her, he took pity and decided to invite her to the team forming in Midway City.
Notes - She'll start out as essentially a weaker Captain Atom, with the potential to fully bond with her powers and stand as his equal.
"Are you ready, Bombshell?" asked Captain Atom.
Bombshell looked over to him. She'd heard of him before the experiment, but had never cared enough to look him up. Now she was supposed to be his sidekick or something. He'd told her a bit of his past when they'd first met, and it was pretty close to hers. An outsider would consider his worse—he lost decades, she lost months—but Bombshell didn't think like that, and she didn't think Captain Atom thought that way either. They were just kindred spirits. The difference was, he was innocent.
Bombshell though back to the question. Was she ready to meet these people? From what the Captain had told her, these guys were going to be her teammates until she became an official Justice League member or retired. She answered, "As ready as I'll ever be."
"It took you a minute to answer. Are you sure you're prepared? You haven't given yourself very long to recover from your imprisonment."
"I feel best when I'm doing something. Meeting the team, beating up bad guys, saving people, it's all better than moping around in my room."
"You know, I felt the same way," he said with a smile. "Let's head in."
Captain Atom held the door open, and Bombshell entered. It was time to meet the team.
Shinichi stood up. This woman had called everyone to attention. Shinich took a glance around the group. It didn't seem like anyone had really notice his cowering. It didn't even look like a real fight had broken out. There was just the big guy nursing an injury and the girl who had punched him still looking annoyed.
Shinichi took a moment to think about what he had done. This was supposed to be a school for channelers to learn to fight, and here he had gone acting terrified the moment someone else got in a fight! It was a good thing nobody had noticed him, or else everyone would have already dismissed him.
He looked back over to the staff member who had called out to everyone. She seemed busy with some weirdo, almost naked except for his underwear and a mask. Was the introduction actually starting?
Appearance: Victoria is a young Latina child of average build with dark brown hair and light brown skin. Out of costume, she dresses in simple, monochrome tops and pants, and generally wears her hair down. He costume is a black business suit with a skirt and a domino mask and her hair in a bun.
Specialization: Ice
Weapon: Melee, a police baton.
Power: Third Eye
Perks: Wings: These manifest themselves as a swan's wings, carved from ice. Martial Training Natural Aging Incognito Interdimensional Home
Patron: Puchuu
Patron Benefits: Job Satisfaction
Patron Drawbacks: Not applicable.
Fighting Style: Victoria is best at close range. She likes to use her ice magic to freeze her opponents in place, then run up and bludgeon them with her baton. If she runs into something that this doesn't work on, she will keep her distance, shoot icicles, and reduce the temperature around the opponent.
Personality: Victoria is no-nonsense girl. When she is given a task by her Puchuu, she carries it out as quickly and effectively as possible. She is also pragmatic. Where other girls would refuse to work with monsters, Victoria will take any advantage she can get. If something bad happens to an ally, she will save the mourning for later and continue her work. When she's not on the job, Victoria is warmer. She's kind to her friends, and likes to spend time just hanging out.
History: Victoria has been a magical girl for two years now, the whole time in Penrose. When she first started, the city was relatively peaceful. When the frequency of monster attacks began increasing, Victoria rose to the challenge. She quickly became the city's premier magical girl, and has been teaming up with anyone who needs an extra hand, no matter their patron. Recently, she has decided that a larger force is needed to clean up the city, so she has decided to try and form an alliance between everyone in the city who can help.
When asked about her life before becoming a Magical Girl, Victoria will only say that she contracted with the Puchuu because she was dissatisfied with her old life.
Incantation: "May my power stop those with hearts of darkness, and purify the lost souls! Rage forth, ice!"
Additional Info: NPC
Type: Puchuu
Name: Victoria's Puchuu
Patron Benefits: Well Connected Supplier
Patron Drawbacks: Cagey Empty Pockets Distracted
Personality: Victoria's Puchuu is the classic Puchuu. It likes to withhold information from Victoria, only telling the truth when directly asked for it. It tends to be very hands off, always away meeting with other Puchuu and different patrons.
History: Like most Puchuu, Victoria's Puchuu doesn't share its individual history.
Resources: Victoria's Puchuu only has Victoria in its employ. It has access to a wide variety of mundane resources, like money, weapon, and technology. It also has contact with many lesser forces and deities. Unfortunately, it has very little coins, so Victoria has stayed at her baseline stats without any upgrades.
Universal Patrons
Type: The Beacon
Name: The Beacon
Patron Benefits: Perfect Life: The Beacon gives you the Fake Parents perk, and will defend them from monsters. Spark: You have a spark of the Beacon's light within you. You can easily shrug off attempts to alter your mind or body.
Patron Drawbacks: Vow: You must vow to honor a virtue. Every time you break the vow, your standing with the Beacon lowers. Excommunication: If you break one of the Beacon's fundamental commandments, you will be excommunicated. You will switch from the Beacon patron to Alone, and other Beacon girls will be told to kill you on sight. The commandments include:
1. You may not consort with dark magical girls, monsters, horrors, or the Ebon Mint. 2. You may not kill another Beacon Girl. 3. You may not use or possess a Black Coin.
Personality: The individual creatures that make up the Beacon have differences in appearance, but not in personality. Each one is kind and understanding to their agents and those they see as not corrupted, but they believe that dark magical girls, monsters, and any who serve horrors are beyond redemption and will actively urge their agents to destroy them.
History: The history of the Beacon is unclear to even their senior girls. They claim their purpose is simply to safeguard magical girls and all of humanity.
Resources: The Beacon makes up about 5% of all magical girls. They are generous with their coins for girls who work for them, and are able to provide fake families for each one.
Darkness is growing in Penrose. The amount of monsters has sharply increased over the past year, and Magical Girl Patrons from across the globe are moving their assets into the city. If you are a local, you've likely been freshly contracted as casualties mount. If not, your patron has moved you in for some purpose, offering more chances to earn rewards.
Victoria Reales, Magical Girl for the Puchuu, has noticed the influx of new girls into her hometown. She has called for a meeting of all magical girls and boys in the city, and has also invited any monsters coherent enough to ally themselves with her. Her goal seems to be to form an alliance against the growing monster population. The meeting is set to begin at midnight at Penrose Park in the heart of the city. Will you attend? Will you join her alliance? Can the alliance even be made?
Rules
1. Nothing even vaguely sexual. Even though the characters may be mentally older, they are still in children's bodies. Any romance will need to be strictly PG. 2. Violence: The world of the CYOA is definitely darker than the average magical girl show, with death as an intrinsic part of the setting. Still, please keep the gore and body horror on the tasteful side. 3. Post Rate: Try for at least once every three days. At the beginning things might move more rapidly. If you're not going to be able to post for a while, let everyone know. 4. Post Standards: Your post should at least include your character's thoughts, and an action or some dialogue. 5. Triggers: If any players have a trigger or set of triggers, let everyone know. If your post includes somebody's trigger, please put it in a spoiler with a trigger warning.
More rules may be added as things come up. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to PM me or tag me in a post.
Setting
This will be using the wider setting of the Accidental Magical Girl CYOA, found here:
The RP itself is in the fictional city of Penrose, located somewhere in the Northeast US. Due to the increasing number of monsters in the city, the magical girl population is rising as well. Penrose has a population of 600,000 and is located on the east coast. The actual structure of the city will be kept nebulous to allow for player choice.
Character Sheet
Character creation should be done according to the CYOA. Please note that the amount of additional benefits and drawbacks you can take on the Patron module depend on what type of patron you have. If you roll Allies or Twin Soul and don't want to deal with the additional characters, you can reroll for that power or perk. I'd like to keep things to a max of 3 characters per person.
It was a bit weird combining the CYOA with a normal RP format. If anyone has any suggestions to improve the organization, please speak up!
