Marian

Marian nodded, knocking back the last of her beverage. She turned from the bar and looked about to try to think of where the two lil things might be. Before heading towards the hall, she looked to Woody once more, "We'll talk more about liquor another time. Just know I can get it."

She patted Paul on the arm as she went by, and made her way down the hall with her ears open. Surely two young girls would not be sitting quietly, they would be moving about and chatting and giving away their location. She paused as she passed doorways to listen with no results at the private doors. There were some shuffling noises at Rumple's door, and Marian stopped. Should she check? Or not? She could hear the little man talking quietly to something, and thought maybe the girls were in there.

She pushed open his door, mouth smiling and open ready to call out to the girls, and stopped dead in her tracks. Rumple was sitting at his stool at the desk. The room was lit with candles lending it a soft glow, and there were two place settings as if he were hosting a meal for a guest. The 'guest' placed across from Rumple at the other plate was the creature Marian had recently delivered, still in its cage but sitting up towards the cage door making purring noises. Rumple turned at Marian's entry in the middle of ladeling out what seemed to be some kind of casserole, and gave her a dark even look.

"Oh... um - pardon me." she stuttered and backed out the door shutting it quickly behind her. So, that was weird... You know, I don't want to know... she thought and let out the breath that had caught in her throat. She shook herself and moved on to the Library to keep up her hunt. She could hear female voices somewhere in the aisles and knew the girls were there somewhere.

"Ash, Pete! Ladies, come out come out wherever you are. Snow wants you," she called as she paced the aisles. She wasn't one for book learning, but the smell of the place sure was nice. Paper and warmth, and the scent of old treasured things.

"Ladiiiies... come on now."

Name: Lizzie Gray

Age: 27

Gender: Female

Appearance: Lizzie is of average height and strong build. She's a swimmer, so she has strong wide shoulders and her endurance is high. Her hair is a short dark brown, and she has golden eyes the color of whiskey. She has an olive skin tone and narrow almond-shaped eyes. She went into the cryo with sneakers, jeans, a black tank top, and sunglasses as if she were ready for a cruise.

Pack contents: Amid a few changes of clothes and three racing swimsuits & hair caps and water shoes, she packed a selection of fishing lures for both fresh and salt water, several spools of the strongest fishing line she could find, and two collapsible fishing reels. She also packed a small medical kit, a sewing kit with several spools of strong waxed thread, two sturdy pocketknives, a hunting knife in a sheath, salt to get rid of leeches (you know, just in case), a small and medium towel, a big bottle of sun block, and a small camping lantern with a solar cell. Finally she has her tablet and solar charger loaded with the information the colonists had been given about Spera, photos/videos from home, and "Smith's Guide to Outdoor Survival" on ebook (as well as several other ebooks to keep her entertained, she was expecting a dome life).

Did you store anything in the cargo bay? Some bow hunting gear, a larger machete that wouldn't fit in her pack, and several dozen arrows. Lots more clothes.

Skills: She can hold her breath for several minutes while diving, and is a very strong swimmer. She grew up in a very out-doorsy family and is a knowledgeable fisherman and decent bow hunter. She knows how to build good campfires, and some basic survival skills (but she bought a handbook for that). She knows CPR and first aid and how to tourniquet a bleeding limb or splint a broken bone.

Education: BAS in Kinesiology focusing on swimming and aquatic sports

What was your reason for joining the colonists? "I entered the lottery hoping for change, because I had broken up with my gorram cheating-ass boyfriend and was kind of mad at the world. My parents were a little concerned when I entered, but they didn't think I'd be drawn. However, when my name was announced on the stream, I was kind of freaked out at first but came around. Everyone was calling me suddenly, and my parents were upset and didn't want me to go. I had to sleep on it for a few days, honestly, and in the end I thought of all the adventure that could be had and how you just don't get this kind of opportunity on Earth. Alaska was tamed decades ago, they even have suburbadomes in Antarctica and stuff. So I thought, yeah I'll do it. I want to do it. I need a challenge."

How did you get get accepted? "As I mentioned, I won the big lottery they had for civilians. It was a 60 in 10 billion chance, you know? And yet, here I am... It's like God wants me to come here."

What did you do before this? "I taught swimming lessons at our suburbadome, and competed a bit too. I also had this rubber mermaid suit and would do kids parties, swimming around with them as Milly the Mermaid. Cheesy, but it made me a fair amount of extra cash!"

OOC is up! Hunted for some interesting alien creatures to jumpstart our thinking on the planets fauna and flora. You're certainly not limited to just those, and we can update with pics or written descriptions of creatures you encounter as we go. :) Also check out the glossary for some ideas on Earth as you left it.
Something was wrong...

You woke from your cryo chamber feeling groggy, cold, and a bit stiff. Others were beginning to stir around you, but something was wrong. As your vision cleared, you realized the lights were blinking red, and that noise in your ear clarified to red alerts over loudspeakers. The computer was urging all passengers to seek escape pods immediately. Something in the system was down. People were getting up, stumbling, trying to move towards the evacuation route to get out of here.

You were supposed to be part of a colonization party, and there were 100 of you in cryo chambers on board the ship bound for the Earth-like planet Spera. Not all of them were opening, and the air feels stale and thin. Dates on computer screens showed you had arrived at Spera on time, but it seems life support was dwindling and that several engines had disabled over the last few months of the travel. You were supposed to arrive on the planet, wake up, and allow robotic systems to establish a simple dome colony to begin your work from, but apparently that wasn't going to happen. You have one chance to live: find the escape pods that would deliver you onto the planet in a one-way trip, and once on Spera, survive.
This is an RP centered around survival, homesteading, and human drama. It's about the lives and relationships of the players and how they interact with each other and their environment. Approach it and others how you will. Can you live on Spera, hoping that the people that sent you here would realize eventually that no signals were being sent out? That could take decades...
So you're landed on Spera, named for the Latin "fac et spera" "Do and hope," an Earth-like planet with similar conditions but very different fauna and vegetation (feel free to make up your own species as you explore, don't wait on just my direction). You will know of some of the larger creatures from the educational videos you watched prior to joining the colony population, giving up on Earth and all ties to it. You will also know some of the edible or dangerous plants, but you may end up with some trial and error. You aren't all scientists; you have a variety of people with a variety of skills. The scientists may not have even made it off the ship. There were small packages containing your personal belongings at the base of your cryo chamber, did you think to grab it? If you had someone with you, did they make it out?

I will be RPing but I will also serve as a narrator so I can bring on things like weather problems, hostile creatures, and other things into the story. :)

Hoping to have at least three people playing including myself. Preferably people that can check daily or every other day so the story keeps moving. Too often I've had RPs just die 3-4 weeks in because people stop posting. If you're prone to that, please skip this. I'm looking for active players who can write advanced RP, looking especially at character development and interaction, with dialogue as well as action and the creativity to shape a world.

Things you should know:

  • It took 30 years for the pre-programmed ship with an artificial captain AI built in to get you from Earth to Spera.

  • You have a pack stored at the base of your cryochamber with personal belongings. It would be in a sort of compartment. It is not locked. It fits the amount of space afforded to cabin storage on an airplane today. So think smaller suitcases.

  • There are storage units filled with planting seed stores, as well as advanced farming tools, robotic machinery for building, and weaponry for hunting in the cargo bay. It also would have contained items colonists wished to be shipped, though they were limited to one crate. It's on lockdown.

  • The ship taking you to Spera, the Bright Hope, is cylindrical with the engines at rear, followed by the cargo hold, followed by the escape pods, followed by the cry chamber housings, followed by the main computer which, as mentioned, is running on an AI and pre-programmed to take the sleeping colonists to their destination.

"Really, dude..." Jason muttered as they walked away from the group. He hoped Max wouldn't take it too personally.

He was a bit embarrassed about Iikka's weird outburst. As much as the big guy liked to rip on people like Max, he definitely had his own social 'quirks' that made people awkward about him. He put it out of his mind, honing in on the local Dickies store. Not being one for shopping for shopping's sake, he made for the sale racks first, poking around for his hard to find size of 29/34. Not finding any on sale, he found the cheaper jeans and picked out two pairs since it wouldn't hurt to add to his closet a little. They were allowed to wear jeans at the hardware store but they had to be in good condition. The leg rip definitely decommissioned his current pair to fix-it-for-school pants.

He went to the register to ring up his purchase, and looked around the store to see where Iikka went when he realized he wasn't with him. It was likely he was destroying something or making a clerk cry.

Yeah, I'm back now. Site crashed when I finally had time to post last week -.-Also, since Wonder all ready took the liberty to discribe my village (no ill-feelings), I'm going to highlight her description here and in the Contract Details for you.

Nothing had been provided and you kept mentioning player initiative I thought it wouldn't hurt, sorry if toes were stepped on! Wanted to move the story along. If I left out something you wanted to include you could spring it on us where-ever it fits. :)
I was a busy girl, will get to posting after others do a bit more. Trying not to over-post. I have a job interview to teach 8th grade art tomorrow. I'm sitting here freaked out.
    Okies!
I'm not good at faux-tech-speak so I will leave that to more vet scifi folks. I will probably make my character someone who won her place by lottery. (Basically passed the health and fertility exams and got her name in the hat). I'm playing with the idea of someone who planned on farming. Still working on the idea, and I'll make a CS later. My studiomates agreed we don't have the time to get the studio ready for open studio tomorrow so I'm just finishing some work to hang on our space in the hallway then I will make the OOC and we can start on CS's at our leisure. I'd like to start the game in the next week. :) My opening in the CS will be better/more informative than the interest check, so look forward to a clearer depiction of what you will go in knowing and some ideas on how you might have gotten your place on the colony ship.
Awesome let me get through this weekend and Monday and I'll make a nicer ooc for character sheets. :D I've got classes to teach, an open studio to deal with, and a job interview that requires I rewrite my lesson plan outline for eighth grade rather than high school.
