Stranded at Sea

Estelle listened to the remarks of her students. Gratia wanted to know why she was teaching the class when she had, just last week been a student. Emerald was making grand gestures and the cupcakes were killing.

Point Stella, that’s for sure.

“Ms. Mindaro, Ms. Felicia I’m going to have to ask for the floor back. I’m glad to hear you’re enthusiastic, Emerald. And Gratia I am not my sister, I’m going to have to ask that you wait to be called to ask a question. If you’d like to take up my employment status with Beacon, please let me know during my office hours and we’ll both speak with Professor Ozpin.” She spoke confidently, she was determined to get this right on the first try. She wasn’t going to falter with her students, which lead her to the lesson.

“If there are no further questions, I’ll ask that you please leave your seats and join me in this apparatus behind me.” She said, leading them to a door in the side of the lecture hall. It opened up to the massive room that the front of the lecture hall gazed out into. It was easily the size of a football field with massive ceiling as well. “This is the best technology that Beacon can buy so you’ll have to trust me that what you’re about to experience will feel completely real.” Stella began.

“But it will not be,” she walked out in front of the class, who had formed a group in front of the entrance facing Stella who was near the front of the room. “You see this room is controlled by a panel at the front of our class. It can simulate just about any circumstance so your time in Survival will not be spent learning the theory of making a fire for if you get shipwrecked, it will provide you with the experience of that.” She noted. A simple Grimm spawned in beside her it stood completely still like a blank slate, it lacked the usual look of malice that they had, regarding more like a common dog, granted still as twisted as the Grimm usually were. It took the form of a Beowolf.

It took a second but soon it began to mimic the usual motions of the Grimm variant exactly, snarling, circling around Stella. And as it charged her, she let out a right hook that caught it directly in the jaw, smashing it backwards.

“The system is advanced enough to know when you’d make contact and if you’d die if the situation was real. Those who die during a test will fail the course, so make sure you take these workshops to learn the tools you will need to survive.” Stella explained, it was a strict curriculum, but the lessons needed to be learned.

With that she let the room sit for a moment before she left, leaving the students alone in the blank room.

“We will be starting the exercise in one minute, please find a place to stand that is at least five feet from everyone else, I will take care of the rest.” Stella’s voice rang through one of the speakers as students were given time to prepare.

As they did there would be a gentle humming of the simulation preparing itself and as the time neared its end a 10 second countdown would appear in the center of the room.

After the ten seconds were up, every student would find themselves on the same ship. It looked not unlike a frigate and it was taking on water, fast. There were Grimm attacking the ship, but not the students themselves. They had at most, two minutes to find any supplies that would reasonably be on the sinking ship and get out.

This was their first test of the fight or flight instincts.

“In two minutes the ship will sink, the main objective is to head to the island 1600 meters west of your current location.

Good luck.”

Ishi’s Judgement

Ishi watched the girl attempt to counter her through the use of Shadow clones and more weak techniques in order to fend off her preliminary attack and the foxes. But she still resided in the exact same place. On top of a building away from Ishi. That wasn’t smart for a woman who fought primarily with a scythe. The Kazekage allowed her scroll to unravel just enough for the tip of it to be lightly touching the water. As the woman attempted to deal with the foxes that were rapidly advancing on her Ishi’s hands found the pages of the scroll. A bolt of Chakra was sent up into the air, which gave the clouds purpose. They began to charge up with an electrical current that would strike the pond in a few seconds.
Without hesitation after the bolt left her scroll Ishi’s focus turned on a dime and she began to perform handseals, three of them were all it would take before her palm would smash into the water. After about three seconds the sand the building was made out of that Akuno was standing on would begin to suck her into its depths violently. Allowing the foxes to violently rip at her throat.
The chess game had begun.

Kareha watched Havoc and Yogensha quietly exchange words. She watched with a single hand on her blade and her eyes transfixed on the woman’s jugular. She knew what she had to do to end her life, perhaps even more than what was necessary due to the woman’s apparent health issues.

Sayuri meanwhile listened intently, but not so much to form an opinion on the matter. The things being discussed were her ladies prerogative and Sayuri was meant to observe alone.

Kareha upon seeing Havoc getting assaulted by Yogensha and thrown from the tower immediately got to work. Sayuri meanwhile was stunned to see Kaito push the advantage knowing him to usually hang back instead of fight head on. With Yogensha out in the front, injured, and collapsed she was upon her in an instant with a devilish grin on her face. She unsheathed her blade and in one movement she had it swinging towards the head of Yogensha in a downwards crescent. Sayuri would not allow for any harm to befall her leader, however.

With one breath activated she managed to reach Yogensha, standing beside her and clapping her hands onto the blade of Kareha. She held it within her palms in order to ensure that it did not strike her sensei. But Kareha was a Yomigaeri and Seven Swordsman of the Mist. When she struck it was not with a single plan of action in mind. She stomped her foot onto the ground and single sheet of ice grew just above the ground, with the tip reflecting Yogensha’s wounded visage back at her. Some blood dripped onto the mirror as Sayuri spun her entire body in order to snap the ice from the blade’s hilt and throw Kareha to the side and away from her master. She saw Kareha’s wicked grin and handseals however and knew that she had to act faster than what she was currently allowing herself.

As she breathed in she allowed some chakra to reach her eyes, and she saw the chakra gathering at the base of the mirror that Yogensha was gazing into.

“Shichi Tenkohō – Daisan Kasse.”
“Hyōton: Shintō!”

As the second breath was activated and the spear of ice shot out of the mirror Sayuri kicked it hard enough to completely shatter the spear, just centimeters before it reached the ridge of Yogensha’s nose. The shrapnel from the spear impaled the wall as Kareha grimaced. But Sayuri was upon her in a single second. The apprentice sent a flurry of closed first blows at Kareha’s elbows and gut, knowing that while she was fighting to kill, she also had an identity to protect. Kareha expertly avoided the blows and sent the blade directly in towards Sayuri’s throat in a stabbing motion.

Sayuri managed to duck underneath, all the while raising her hands and bringing them down on Kareha’s wrist hard, which caused the girl’s grip on the sword to loosen. Sayuri was quick to use that, using the momentum from her ducking motion to bring her even further down towards the ground and send a sliding kick towards Kareha’s feet. The blow connected, but as it did Sayuri felt an immense amount of cold wash through her leg as Kareha grinned. Stabbing the ice blade into the ground and using it to steady herself enough to land on Sayuri. The cold overtook the girl, but it was clear what the next course of action was.

“Jūkenhō Ichigekishin.” She said commandingly, releasing a burst of chakra from the front of her body that would no doubt collide with many of her Tenketsu, enough so to send the girl spiraling backwards. Sayuri regained her footing, her skin had reddened rapidly and her body temperature was getting dangerously low. But Kareha glancing around at the others knew that this was no hill to die on.

She scowled and stuck her tongue out at Sayuri before jumping from the tower to join Havoc. Counting on him to ease her landing.

Sayuri immediately whipped around to make sure that Yogensha was alright after exerting herself as much as she did. She kneeled by her superior’s side and offered her shoulder for support and her sleeve to mop up any excess blood that may’ve dirtied her lip. It would be clear just by touching Sayuri that she was absolutely freezing.

Ishi's Will
Ishi nodded as the woman took her place and sent a wind Jutsu her way. Wind was recognizable perhaps through the process of deduction most of all. Every other nature was so clear that it made wind just as clear in comparison.

“Scatter.”

She commanded her pack, and immediately five went right and five went left. They all stormed the woman’s current location. Ichi and San leading the packs the foxes looked like beasts from an old wives tale. They drooled in anticipation as their backs arched in a way that seemed both reminiscent of a wolf and a large cat. As soon as they reached the building, they would dive seemingly into the material used to construct it itself. Seemingly swimming towards their target they were beyond petty Jutsu now. However that still left Ishi and the wind Jutsu. She didn’t have much in the way of defensive techniques, so instead she had to meet a show of force with something more. Her hands rapidly weaved together four handseals as she put the final seal to her lips.

“Suiton: Suidan no Jutsu.” She uttered, expelling a large quantity of water towards the wind Jutsu, causing the two Jutsu to clash in midair. As she continued to release water she seemed to blow past the technique and towards its user. She used one more handseal to release lightning around the stream of water amplifying the destructive power of the technique massively.

The move was on the cultist. But knowing that this technique was unlikely to kill her Ishi began to plot out the various ways in which her opponent could dodge the assault. She was prepared for almost any mistake the girl made. Ishi was out for blood tonight.

A cause worthy of a goddess

As explosions sounded off Ichi and the other foxes met Ishi in the Kazekage’s office. They knew that they were being attacked, no doubt by a similar force that attacked Konoha.

“Shun.” She started, but the foxes were already snarling. The size of a hunting hound each of them were thirsty for blood. Ichi made her way to the top of the Kazekage mansion as everyone began evacuating. She did not take her time, but she did not run. This kind of attack did not read wanton destruction or chaos. And while she had spent quite a bit of time and money remodeling the infrastructure of Sunagakure, it left her without a Jonin for aid. Luckily, she had her friends.

Tokuina and his cubs would know what to do without her being there. Thus, it was her and Shun, a pack. They reached the roof of the mansion and Ishi alongside Ichi, Ni, and San. She gazed out upon the destruction and made a few handseals, rather quickly.

“Sabaku no Yūdai,”

Ishi whispered, as if casting a prayer to a god. But that’s exactly what she was. As she said the words and performed the three handseals, citizens would notice the entire environment shift. All of the buildings would have domes of sand created around them as a massive pool of water formed in the center of the village, pooling out from the Oasis that was usually at the center.

The clouds overhead bunched together and begun to storm down on the rest of the area, lightning cracked and the gods themselves reached out so that the attackers knew they were unwelcome. With her job done and as many of the civilians lives as she could protect safe, Ishi jumped down onto the center of the pond. Approximately 30m in radius it was fairly massive and even pretty deep, around 10 feet of water had come seemingly out of nowhere.

“Ishi,” Ni started. “You won’t be able to use that technique for 24 hours!” He said in a hushed voice, looking at her concerned.

“That is correct little one.” She said patting his head dutifully. “I’m afraid those here will not require much effort to ease into an early grave.” She said with a warm, motherly smile.

“Come out you foolish cowards.” She commanded, her voice booming across the now nearly empty and silent village streets.

A Podunk Girl in a Podunk Town
Kareha regaled Havoc with tales of heresy, love, and heroism the whole way from the Yomigaeri HQ to Amegakure. By the time they made it anywhere near the village they were met with a force that seemed pretty friendly. Cool!

”Normally we would ask you to leave. But the lady Yogensha herself has decided to open her arms to you and wishes us to escort you to our village. If you decline, we're afraid we have to ask you to return to the border and travel around it.”

Kareha nodded along with what they were saying. It seemed like they had their ducks balanced. Or whatever.

But Havoc was shaking slightly. At first she thought it could’ve been pre-show jitters. But it seemed more akin to anger. From his back Kareha covered his eyes and bopped him on the head with her chin. “Focus you big oaf.” She said kicking her heels into his side like he was a horse.

“Eyes on the prize.”

Amegakure no Sato | B-rank | Assistant of Amekage

TIME: Present Day - Morning | LOCATION: All over Time and Space man | INTERACTION: Functionally everyone

Sayuri panted as the invasion came to a close. She was instructed by Yogensha to stay behind in the village until the funeral, as a show of good will to a village whom had just lost an important figure. Over the coming days Sayuri would put in the work the village needed, repairing infrastructure and helping where it was needed. By the time the funeral rolled around she was able to see Yogensha again. They exchanged more than just pleasantries, Sayuri reporting anything she thought was attempting to remain innocuous. She had been training her chakra control in order to become more talented at concealing her Byakugan. She reported everything to Yogensha who was only looking worse for wear. The elder woman simply patted Sayuri on the back and informed her that if anyone should worry it was her.

She instructed Sayuri to go out that night, she’d have an incredibly busy schedule once they began to head back to Amegakure.

So Sayuri went to a small bar after the funeral, she was given clearance to drink to her heart’s content and her neighbour seemed to have a similar plan of action.

Sayuri was somewhat dazed by the point of actually being able to comprehend what the girl was saying, she was phasing in and out from her actual words.

"... And the fucka's like 'Is tha' all y'all jounin got?' when we were kickin' his scaley ass?!"

Oh fug da shi.

"Fruity fucks be all tryin' to get the attention. Freakin' dicks, pussies 'n' asshole, that's the only type o' people yer gonna find in this dumb hole of a shinobi world. Did I tell ya' 'bout why it's like that?"

N-nah you ain’t said a single… Noise.

"Ehhh, maybe later."

Ahh ya that’s how it is.

"So where ya' from again? That Rain village or somethin'?"

Hmmmmmmmm? Little ol’ me? Awwww yeah you know that I’m always where it’s *hic* wettest.

The next day Sayuri found herself being force fed an army ration pill and being told to march. Her head hurt like a bitch.

The Kage Summit was a strange time for Sayuri. She was sent as a representative of Amegakure and Yogensha herself and as such was told to be on the highest level of alert possible. Her new technique for funneling small amounts of chakra to her eyes to keep them active ended up paying off fairly well, she was able to keep a distinct eye out and went ahead with a unanimous agreement to keep Ocha locked up. The Mizukage’s people and he himself had apparently orchestrated the attack on Konoha. While Sayuri wasn’t incredibly sure what the validity of that was, she did know that keeping her mouth shut from here on out was most likely the best decision she could make.

She was happy to see Amegakure heading towards a global seat of power, especially with Kirigakure in the proverbial shitter.

While Yogensha was telling her men to greet the intruder’s to their village Sayuri stood on Yogensha’ right, with Kaito on her left. They awaited to enemies to be welcomed in their gate, once more Sayuri slowly and methodically watching their progress all the while hiding the presence of her Byakugan to any who should be looking with the eyes of man.
Name: Kyūsokuna Shihanki (急速四半期 'Rapid Quarter')
Rank: C
Range: Personal
Nature: N/A
Type: Kekkei Genkai
Effect: A tricky technique, Kyūsokuna Shihanki is essentially utilized to make it seem as if a Hyuga has not activated their Byakugan. This is done by flowing chakra towards the eyes and allowing it to build up in small bunches along the way so it enters the eye in increments, rather than as a steady stream. This, as well as the intention to activate their eyes, causes the eyes to flicker or, if observed closely, activate and deactivate at such high sped that the doujutsu is never actually seen unless viewed by a specialized technique or another doujutsu.

Sayuri has increased accuracy/awareness with intervals between activations leaving her slightly blind but they retain awareness of their surroundings via the prior use of or byakugan.

Doujutsu can discern that this technique is being utilized. Additionally this technique uses almost no chakra, but requires intense focus to maintain for long periods of time.

Weakness: She is limited as she is only seeing flashes of the vision granted by the Byakugan. Meaning it is easier for her to miss Tenketsu or incoming projectiles. Since she is using this technique by flickering the Byakugan on and off, she cannot see past a 100m radius with this technique.

Why I think she deserves this: Sayuri fought against many of Jaakuna’s clones, taking point for the team since she was forced to take a reactionary role in the fight, being the only member of the team who could see them. This, however, casued her to quickly drain her Chakra and as a result she will have focused on a way to utilize her eyes without A. revealing her identity as a Hyuga, and B. that uses less chakra.

Name: Jinbutsu戯画 (Caricatures)
Rank: C
Range: Supplementary
Nature: N/A
Type: Ninjutsu

Effect: Focusing on a single painting that is currently active for Āito, she is capable of using this Jutsu to transform it. Should she be using a tiger, she may transform it to a large bird, a snake to a dog, etc. The only limitation being that Āito cannot transform one of her paintings into one that costs more. So for example her beast imitation can be transformed into her myth imitation.

Weakness: While the physical shape of the beast or myth changes, they are still as durable, which is to say less-so than a shadow clone for a beast and only slightly moreso than a clone. The technique requires concentration and a handseal to perform.

Why I think she deserves this: Aito fought against Havoc along with Ayame and Ai. She fulfilled a primarily supplementary role in the engagement. She used her paintings to keep Havoc busy (snakes), give Ai a position from which she could use her purity tag to end the fight, and had began to utilize A technique that could’ve ended the fight. Unfortunately Havoc retreated.

Sitting at the table at which the Akatsuki were to meet, cross legged at her seat and slowly rocking back and forth, one would find the hero of every story she found herself in. Kareha leaned over the table, propping her chin up with the palms of her hands, resting her elbows against the table.

“We make a cute family.” She said through a clenched jaw. Her eyes were bright and beaming with excitement. She stopped rocking back and forth and looked Seijuro right in the eye. A glimmer of something, anything other than her usual exterior mood leaked out of that gaze. Just one moment later she started snickering and muffled her laughter by burying her face in her arms on the table. She couldn’t take such a stick in the mud guy so seriously. He bored her.

“Madame Kazeka-“ An orderly started, only to be immediately interrupted by a nurse. A hand quickly and carefully placed over the orderly’s mouth.

“She’s in surgery.” The woman whispered, pointing to Ishi Kakumei, currently trying to save the life of a young boy who fell from the roof of the Kazekage’s building. The large dome building did not offer much in the way of a grip for the poor boy on his way down.

“I have a message for her.” The orderly said in a hushed voice. “It’s the Leaf village.”

“Come in.” A third voice entered the room, booming over the others. The Kazekage herself. The orderly walked in, bowing to the woman as the sounds of bones snapping into place echoed over the room. The boy screamed, though it wasn’t entirely clear whether he was conscious or not. Perhaps it was his body forcing energy out of him, Ishi was doing so much for the boy so quickly it must’ve been horrendously painful.

”What news does the will of fire bring to us?” Ishi said in a charitable tone, even smiling warmly at her orderly. All the while repairing the broken body of the boy in front of her. Finally, after setting his shoulder and knee back to their original position, and closing the incision she had previously made with her scalpel she walked over to the sink to wash her hands while nurses rolled the boy away.

“The Hokage has died.” The orderly said, rather matter-of-factly.

Ishi took a few seconds, peering at the girl in the mirror before sighing. ”I see.”

Leaving the surgery room her foxes quickly found her, skipping alongside her feet and playing with her.

“Hey mom, are you headed over to the river to read?” Ishi called, scrambling up beside her, stepping over his brothers.

”No, I have business elsewhere unfortunately.” She replied, letting her right hand fall to the fox’s fur. She pet it soothingly before crouching down to get on their level. Within an instant they were all lined up to face the woman. ”I’ll be gone for a few days, travel between our countries isn’t always fast. I’m leaving Tokuina in charge.” She said calmly, but was met with a loud chorus of groans from the foxes.

“Why is it always the old man?” They asked among other various statements of disagreement.

”He hasn’t failed yet.” Ishi stated simply patting the heads of her foxes before continuing on her walk to meet Tokuina. But before she could make it she felt the scurrying of Chitose up her pant leg, through her shirt and finally on her shoulder. It didn’t say anything, it simply awaited command. ”Watched over them, be vigilant while I am gone, please.” Ishi stated, allowing a single finger to stroke the mouse from head to lower back. It ran off on its way quickly.

“Ishi.” Tokuina said, his voice so deep it felt as though the very Earth itself was speaking to her. His cubs lay tiredly by his massive maw, seemingly tuckered out from training.

“Hello, old friend.” Ishi said, placing her forehead on the lower portion of Tokuina’s mouth. “I must leave for the next few days. I need you to protect them.” The Kazekage spoke quietly. She refused to be heard by anyone but her closest ally.

“I understand, you’ve stood vigilantly for two years. We wouldn’t want the other Kage thinking your some kind of recluse.” He uttered, his voice threatening to wake his cubs. “Go, little one.” He said, his age transparently displayed in his booming voice.

At the Funeral

Ishi watched silently at the front of the crowd, alongside the other Kage as the Hokage was lowered into the ground. It wasn’t a second sooner a ruse was revealed.

The supposed assistant to the Hokage immediately began to explain his life’s sorrows to the crowd, making sure his new position as Hokage was heard, loud and clear. Ishi’s face formed into a scowl in a matter of miliseconds. She was miles away from home and this damned Hokage thought she needed to be dragged out for half of a Hokage’s death. She wanted to leave immediately, but of course he refused to stop opening his mouth.

“One last thing, there will be a Summit for the Five Kage and any leaders who would like to participate. I may require a few ninja as my entourage. That is all, thank you for coming, you can mingle amongst yourselves there will be tea and treats for you all. Oh by the way I will be your new Hokage.”

Ishi’s brow furrowed. This all smelled somewhat… Suspicious. She knew not that this Hokage had a twin. She wasn’t sure anyone did, given the theatrics being employed here. She would reach out to the Amekage and the Tsuchikage in order to clarify a few things with them. Even worse than being required to attend a damned funeral for a leader halfway across the world, being told at the funeral she was required to be at another meeting. She needed a drink before she would leave.

After the Summit

Ishi found her gaze transfixed on a girl who looked tired out of her wits that bore the hat of the Amekage. She was certainly not the Kage, however. As long as Yogensha was still alive. However, she had acted with grace and dilligence, and stepping in for a Kage was no easy feat. Even for a village as small as Amegakure. She gave the girl a reassuring nod before moving on.
