His chuckle and reasoning confirmed her suspicion that her idea was idealistic and foolish. She felt her face redden from embarrassment. She turned to look out the window to hide it. "I suppose you're right," she admitted. She allowed her mind to wander a bit on the subject. Maybe one day she'll get the opportunity to see places she's always wanted to see.

Alex watched as they drove on. Eventually they would pass a large sign with giant words 'Welcome to Kansas.' Not far into Kansas they stopped at a rather dirty-looking place. Several small chain restaurants and stores lay scattered about. They stepped out of the truck and onto the pavement. Apparently Daniel had the same idea when it came to wishing to stretch his legs. She too stretched her cramped muscles and breathed a sigh of relief as she could almost feel the blood starting to flow again.

"So, any preference on breakfast?"

She shook her head, "Not really," she said sheepishly. This was certainly different. Never had she been in such a situation she would be so reliant on someone else. She didn't like the feeling. Daniel, however, seemed quite alright with everything. If he did mind he certainly didn't show it. Still, she'd have to find a way to support herself, and she'd have to learn fast.

"Whatever is fine," she added truthfully. She was hungry and it didn't matter what was on the menu.

A burst of wind caught her off-guard as she looked about, throwing her hair wildly around. With a huff she pulled open the passenger side door and shuffled through the glove box.  After a moment of rustling around some various papers and the like she pulled out a stray hairband.

Smiling sheepishly she pulled her hair back into a heavy ponytail, "Much better." She looked back at him, "Do you think they'll be looking for us out this far?"

This part is all yours. I'm not where to go and how to go about it. =(
She shrugged at his 'no offense' comment. There was none to be taken, but she figured he was just being polite. She knew that the need would come. It was just a truck. He went on to suggest food and money. Food especially sounded nice about now, her stomach was already beginning to protest.

Well that sounded straight-forward enough, but how he planned to go about that was another matter. All her money was left in her purse, which her would-be captors now undoubtedly possessed and she had no experience in life on the run. For now, she'd have to put her faith in his ability to know what to do. Still, maybe all the time she would now have on her hands would allow her to learn a few tricks from the magician she now accompanied. Maybe they could make some money off of that? Find another circus? She sighed at the thought; nowhere in her life did she expect to have that on her list for a prospective job. If all else failed they might be able to make money as a farmhand or something. That was right up her alley, although she doubted Daniel was keen to such an idea. Still, money was money no matter how they planned to make it.

He mentioned on not knowing where to go next and that concerned her. "Well, is there anywhere you always wanted to go? Just go there." She shrugged. Maybe the question was idealistic and naïve, in fact, she was secretly sure it was after she heard it. She wished she could take it back but instead kept quiet.
Daniel roused from his slumber. Nightmares seemed not to effect him, or if they did, he didn't show it.

“Good Morning,” she replied a small smile tugged at her lips, “I wish you would've. You don't need to run yourself into the ground on my behalf.”

In all honesty, she was glad she got to sleep, however restless it may have been. Still, he is only human and needed his rest too. Alex looked around at their surroundings and then back at him with waiting eyes. Daniel apparently had experience in being on the run. She didn't know what to do. How far should they go? She didn't know. He seemed to be formulating a plan.

“What do we do now?”

The morning was warm as the sun cast down its rays upon the fields. Rex, and his wife, Barbra sat on the front porch in rocking chairs. Despite the bright start to the day this day would prove anything but. Late last night they received news from Chelsea that their daughter went missing.

Their eyes fell upon a black sedan that pulled into the long gravel driveway and stopped just affront the porch. Two suited men got out and approached.

Under any other circumstances Rex might have reached for his gun, but he knew their purpose here. They flashed their badges. “Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher, we are with the police and we wanted to ask you a few questions about your daughter.”

Barbra's hand reached for her husband's as he nodded for them to sit and get comfortable.

“Anything we can do.”

Rex was an ageing man, his salt and pepper hair thinning in the front and his usual attire, of dirty overalls had certainly seen better days. His skin was tanned from years of toil and his wrinkles starting to become more apparent. His health was starting to improve, albeit he will have to use his cane for the remainder of his life. He was a proud man. Proud of his family and what little they did have. Still, even his pride wouldn't stop tears as they began to bombard them with questions and possibilities.
