I'm both impressed and aroused at the fact that Sia was able to take that belt without me realizing. Good thing she didn't take the tech because none of it will work without my bio signature. A necessary fail-safe. A conversation about that is definitely in order but first.

To make the rebels feel better I hold my hands up in mock surrender but...really?

"Do you really think your pick axes and shovels are going to be any threat to a person who can casually blow up the moon? No wonder you're doing a piss poor job of getting anything done. Look I don't care that you're pointing the business end of your sorry weapons at me but it is bothering me that you're pointing them at the ladies present." I indicate Lexianna and Flame. Especially, when they're holding them all wrong. I groan.

"You." I point to a kid to the side who looks like he's about to cry now that I've singled him out. "That's wrong. If someone blew on you you'd fall over. Put your foot back to brace yourself drop your elbows a bit and space your hands out on that bat. You'll get a better swing." I point to the person next to him.

"You. Hoe." He's literally holding a hoe. "There's about 15 different ways to take that from you right now. Hold it out from you body more for defense and swing the blade end so it's pointing down diagonally against your body. Surprisingly, it'll be more useful if you don't try and hit someone with the blade end because theirs will be bigger than yours. You wanna use the stick side to push them back and keep them off balance. You see and opening you hook that thing in their neck but you're gonna have to work for it which means lots of small quick hits with the stick end first." The kid nods and I feel tension loosen just a bit. "Whoa! Big man with the dagger. Flame show him how it's done."

I almost miss my cue. I'm too busy replaying Gaul winking at me in my mind and the way he called me, "little fox." I've lost it. I know I have. His voice, that low timbre really does something to me.

I snap to attention. Just a second off beat. Daggers are my weapon of choice, though I'm well equip to use most other weapons. I'm on the guy in a second. I've disarmed him in a heartbeat. "You never want this far from your body. You don't have a lot of reach. Keep it close so they can't take it. Smooth movements." I duck his arm and come up behind him planting my own dagger flat ended against his neck. "This is where you aim. With a dagger you have to make each strike count. You want to go for the kill each time with the shallowest cuts since your blade isn't long. Neck, arteries in the under arms and thighs. Let them bleed out." I step away and assess how he's holding it now. "Yes. Much better." I look to my brother. He's yelling at a group of 3 in the corner of the tent who are following his moves precisely. He claps for them and nods.

He moves over to the opening of the tent and bows. " I now feel confident you won't trip and kill yourselves instantly. Good work. Ladies..." He holds the tent flap open. "After you." I'm the first one out of the tent. I'm eager to catch up to Gaul and see what else this world has to offer.

I'm not happy. From what it sounds like, Razz and Nevermore maybe broken up and if that is the case. I know exactly who I'm going to push for first. I've known Razz longer, so I know he's plenty strong to hold on till we get there because he also knows we'll get there. Nevermore gives me strong loner vibes though, she has no reason I'm sure to believe we'll be there for her and I want to change that perspective. Plus, she's a babe. It's against my nature to leave such a beauty in poor hands.

It'd be better if they were together but if not it sounds like Nevermore might be east and Razz west. I'm east bound for sure. It sounds like west point would be a cinch for me to get into. I clear my throat and speak up.

" I'm hella attractive and have no problems answering to a strong woman. I bet I can get in to look for Razz, but I wanna go for Nevermore. "

Flame
I answer without thinking.
"Gaul is way more attractive and strong to boot. He'd clearly be a better option."

I feel the sting of embarrassment immediately and rush to fill the space, “From a clearly objective point of view of course! And I'm obviously not offering you up without your consent either!"

In an effort to clear up my blunder I rushed over to Gaul and am now inches from his face. I don't realize until this very second that somehow I've managed to scramble into his lap in an attempt to see eye to eye. I redden, quite noticeably I'm sure. It feels so natural though, like I’ve already done this before. I back pedal my words again but I’m struck by his eyes and can’t seem to move my body. “ I think we should figure out another option.”

I wake up to a pillow directly in front of my face. My sister is curled on the other side of it. I sit up to get a good look at her. She's in the fetal position, making herself as small as possible and looking every inch innocent. Clutched tightly in her hand though is a dagger waiting to cut down anyone who dares approach me uninvited in the night. I hear her heartbeat quicken and pick up to match my conscious state. I sigh, roll my eyes, and seek cover.

Flame

I'm on my feet, my dagger arcs through the air as I cut the throat of the would-be assassin. I open my eyes and the only thing cutting is the rays of the sun through the roof of the hut. I groan and shut my eyes tight again. I hear many receding footsteps. A person yelling about a place called Shadowhold. I slept way too soundly if I didn't hear them approaching. This is why you don't drink on the job and besides that..

"Oww..." I rub my head and whimper.

" A pint sized fox shouldn't try and drink her weight in alcohol. " Blaze is using annoying brother voice.

" Not like you tried to stop me." I open one eye to see him shrug. I immediately close it again.

"Lesson learned the hard way. "

I groan again and lean against the wall. I don't even remember getting here last night which means Blaze must have carried me out. "When did you even carry me in here?" His answer surprises me.

" If you're looking to thank someone it wasn't me." He nods towards a sleeping Gaul and my face could be a Christmas ornament for how red it goes. I rack my brain trying to remember if I said something stupid but my brain is a big black void. I hazily remember talking about Haust. Didn't I? This is going to be maddening but maybe it'll come back to me slowly. I send a silent prayer to the ancestors that I didn't make a fool of myself.

I’m woken up by an older lady pointing out where I can sleep. My eyes groggily find my sister. She’s drunk. It’s painfully obvious. She’s never been much of a drinker but it looks like she’s taken several sips too many. I should probably drag her out with me but she’s crawled into Gaul’s lap. Yes definitely drunk. I consider pulling her off but he’s a big guy and can take care of himself. I’m sure he’ll see her safely out of here and straight to bed…alone. Just like me unfortunately. I sleepwalk/stumble to our hut and hit the hay.

I curl further into the warm arms that belong to Gaul. Comfortable, happy. I’m cradled in his lap which is stiff with muscles. My head hurts. Then I remember I was explaining our monarchy.

” So Inferna is a wonderful regent. She was basically born for it. We all were really but she breathes it.” I lean back again into my Gaul pillow. It really is wonderful. I should thank Blaze when we wake. Wake? Am I asleep? I’m unsure now. My eyes are too heavy to lift. I probably should wake though. Then a thought flings itself into my mind. My eyes open, I sit up ramrod straight. The most serious realization just dawned on me. I have to tell Gaul, but I’ll need courage. I grab the pitcher that has what remains of the drink and start downing it. This liquid courage works wonders. It’s how I found myself here in this comfy Gaul chair. I’ll need all the courage I can get for this announcement.

“Heirs!” That wasn’t how this was supposed to start but I’ve started now and I might as well get it all out. “I’m supposed to help keep the line of succession going. Blaze has to have kids. Technically I’m supposed to as well but the little buggers are aggravating but they might not be if they have the right genes. See you’re a god of fate right? And I’m basically a warrior princess so it’s prefect. Gaul, I would like you to father my children.”

I glance over to the floor where my brother was last seen playing host to the viruses known as children. All the little menaces are gone and my brother has fallen asleep in a nearby chair. They must have completely worn him out. It's the price you pay when you fraternizing with the little terrors. I attune my hearing to his long deep breathes, definitely asleep. He suddenly whispers something obscene about Sia and unseen piercings and I flinch. Sometimes I curse my super hearing fox ears. I flatten them against my head and turn my attention back to where it should be, on this conversation.

Gaul asked the million dollar question. After seeing all the eyes in the room that filled with envy over the rocks, I decided not to flaunt mine. I sip the drink in front of me. I'm surprised by it's smoothness and slightly sweet after-taste. It's delicious. Unfortunately, the more of it I drink the more I start to lean into Gaul. That's fine, I'm sure he won't mind. I'm also starting to feel sleepy.

"Elder. Is there a place we could rest?" I indicate my brother passed out in the chair. "I think the travel has taken its toll." I polish off the drink in front of me and think over what the Elder has told us so far. All this sounds exactly like the kind of thing this group specializes in, if my brother's stories are to be believed anyways. He also sounded confident that we could help these people before he sold his soul to the little devils from earlier. I hope he's right because these people look lost.

I waltz into the hall and am hit with two things at once. 1 the overwhelming gloom and 2 I think someone just mistook my Blue Bombshell of being some high priestess from Arthurian legend which I suppose it’s easy to do. Girl’s got a trident and looks like a fish I’d peg her for the leader of Atlantis myself if I didn’t know better. I pull up a seat and drape my arm around Sia.

“The lovely Lady of the Lake here can easily face down any baddies thrown her way but that doesn’t come free. She needs information to work with. Am I right?” I wink at Sia and give her my most charming smile hoping she won’t punch me in it.

What about this gloom though? I glance around the room and see a few small faces staring directly at me, or more specifically my tail. I whip it around and one giggles. I motion the kids over with my tail. That seems to be all the encouragement needed and before I know it I’m on the floor, five kids piled on top of me. Two on my back a little girl at each ear and another kid trying to pull my tail. I keep swishing it back and forth so the kid can’t grab it. I glance to the side and see a couple ladies whispering about how good I am with kids. This is perfect.

Flame
This is a disaster! My brother is being violated by little demon midgets and I’m hopeless to help. Kids are perfect incubators for all sorts of sickness and he’s playing with them like he’s on cloud nine. It’s horrifying. It’s like watching an accident waiting to happen. I peel my eyes away though because I have a question. What that Sven guy said before he left doesn’t bode well so I speak up. “What’s this about them raising their dead?” I ask the Elder.
