Personality: Scheming, manipulative and fickle are words that, among those who truly know her, can be applied to Visenya. Having two older incompetent brothers somewhat forced the mantle of real control onto her, and, despite her gender, she has now done so with an iron fist, at least within her household. Outside, she uses far more appropriate means, rarely stepping into actual seduction, instead she uses the variety of suitors after her valyrian beauty to her advantage, as well as the expertise they, and many others at court, bring. While intelligent herself, with specifics she prefers to delegate, instead using her own mind to plan the overall goal of the house, one that has slipped into dishonor of late.
Biography:Visenya was the third, and final child of the late Lord Marren Velaryona, a particularly notable admiral if nothing else. The only girl, beyond an occasionally doting father, she was deemed fairly irrelevant to the house as a whole, unable to carry on the family line and hugely unlikely to inherit, she was raised as any other noble girl, jumping between Driftmark and the Capital, with the odd visit to Dragonstone. Rather than teach her to simply sit out of the way, Visenya had to work, as much as the nobility do, for any attention or gain that she could manage. Quickly she learnt the ability to charm and manipulate, only accentuating as she grew older.
At the age of 15, she was married to to an unassuming Leos Darklyn, simply to secure an alliance between the two Crownlands houses. The pair spent most of their time in the capital, living out of the Darklyn manse, Visenya refusing to live under the eyes of her husband's parents and older brothers in Duskendale. The man supposedly became a trader, both in goods and real estate, however, it was generally seen as the Lady's business. Their marriage remained pragmatic even after the birth of their two children, although they hardly loathed each other. Despite this, shortly after Leos attempted to force his family to move permanently to Duskendale, he disappeared, supposedly falling into the sea after a night of revelry on the docks. Knowing his character, the story is generally believed.
Following her husband's death, Visenya has enjoyed her status as one of the city's most sought after widows, her self made wealth and noble blood a target for both the wealthy and highborn, hence her influence has grown as nobility and traders have looked to please her. With the deaths of her largely incompetent brothers, Visenya has forced her own control over the house, her brother's son holding little but titular control. Appointing her son, Leos (the junior) to repair and manage the Velaryon fleet, she has been working to secure House Velaryon's position at court, while secretly nursing the blood ties the Velaryons have with the Blackfyres overseas.
