Here's an idea for an RP: imagine a somewhat futuristic world complete with gleaming skyscrapers, ultra-fast computers, laser-based weapons, and a warm climate. Imagine a world of turmoil, complete with a mix of city-states, nation-states, and areas totally ruled (and owned!) by megacorporations. In this world, there would be many different races and species, including some which had evolved naturally and a few which were made by scientists for a variety of reasons.
In this roleplay, I'd play a male human technician working in an advanced and rich but corrupt city-state. The world would be convulsed by wars and economic turmoil, with the city-state being one of a few mostly unscathed regions. Said city-state's name has yet to be determined, but it will be very capitalistic, very rich in many ways, but be culturally sterile in many respects: almost all "art" is of the most bizarre modern variety, few people know how to actually play instruments (almost all music is synthesized or programmed on a computer and broadcast over speakers), and most writing is superficial at best, trashy at worst. Only movies and video games show any signs of promise. The city-state is nominally democratic but is in fact run by corporations. Crime is minimal (apart from racist incidents) and the city streets tend to be very clean in most areas. Visually, it is mostly made of steel, titanium, aluminum, and glass, and is known for warm beaches on the ocean coast. There is almost no classic architecture left (such as Gothic churches), and religion is limited to "stripped monotheism" (vaguely spiritual but not religious) when people believe at all, which is about half of the native population. The population is majority-human but minorities exist, as will be seen below.
The other player would be a female "dragon" (humanoid with draconic features which we can work out later) from a backwater archipelago in the middle of an ocean. This would be an obvious parallel with real-life immigrants. The "dragons" come from a much less advanced culture which is polytheistic and colorful, but commonly derided as "lazy" and "hedonistic" by racists. Most nations use laser-based weapons and anti-gravity to supplement flight, while the "dragon" nation still uses technology roughly equal to mid 1980s technology. Again, we can work out the details later. In any event, the war and economic turmoil has driven many "dragons" to live in a poorer neighborhood of the city-state. Many work in menial jobs. The few who attempted to turn to crime have been deported or imprisoned, so it isn't an option for them either.
As for other details, we can work those out later. Any takers?
