Plot: Two people meet for dinner in a fancy restaurant down by the waterfront. They meet at the restaurant at 6:00pm on a Friday night. They are seated by the pretty waitress at a rather lovely table by the window overlooking the promenade below, with all the nicely dressed people walking by, enjoying a night out. We enjoy a nice long conversation about our lives. We talk about all sorts of things. To us, this is just another pleasant conversation. To anyone who may be listening though, the conversation is an extremely engrossing one. More than a few eyebrows would be raised over this one.
Setting: The Bella Nuova Roma Italian restaurant. Located on the second floor of the Spencer and Chase building in the waterfront district. The restaurant itself is a marvel of polished mahogany, marble, and beige coloured leather seating. The scene is bathed in saffron light from the various chandeliers and indoor lamp posts. Various white wooden tables and chairs are scattered about. Seating booths line the walls. From where we are seated to my right, your left, we can see a pizza oven to the right, and the opening to the kitchen to its left. Further to the right of the pizza oven we can see a bar that looks like it serves all kinds of alcohol. To my left your right, of course is the massive window that takes up the entire wall. The other walls are lined with white marble reliefs of some of the many works of art found in Rome. The atmosphere overall is luxurious and jubilant yet relaxed.
Characters: I play your best friend, or lover, whichever you choose. We are both in our early twenties. You can be whatever gender you like. The menu is expensive but we can easily afford it. The other characters include the pretty waitress who looks like Ariana Grande, the suave looking bartender, and the loud and rotund chef. Other patrons nearby can be made characters as well if either of us chooses to drag them into the story.
How it's played: After we are seated by the waiter we greet each other. We ask each other how we are and stuff. I then recall some random memories of you and the times we spent together. What I will recall is true, set in stone. What you will have to do then is connect the dots and logically link and rationalise the memories I bring up.
Here's an example.
Me: "Remember that time you crashed that golf cart into the fountain, made out with that mannequin in that posh designer clothes store, streaked through that 50 shades of grey book signing event, and still made it on time to see the musical Cats?"
You: "Yeah I remember. It all started when...."
From then on you link all that I have remembered together into a logical and cohesive short narrative. Very short, at least two paragraphs long. Then you remember some stuff about me. Then I do the same. Back and forth. We can remember stuff that we did together but that will be in a tandem writing style. Here's another example.
Me: "Rememeber when we went to the park that day, the Ducks were fighting over the bread a threw into the pond."
You: "Yeah I do! It was a morning if I recall. After you fed the ducks a swan waddled up with a couple of its cygnets. It started spreading its wings and hissing at us on the park bench."
Me: "Oh I remember. We got up and backed away pretty quick. The swan still followed us though, all the way down the footpath for about thirty meters?"
You: "Some fat middle aged guy walked on by, oblivious to the situation. The swan attack him instead. It pecked him on the butt while he ran, dropping his coffee and newspaper."
Me: "But then it happened......"
And so on.
Any takers?
