The year is 1872, during the height of the great Manifest Destiny in the great United States. The newborn and independent Americans have taken flight to explore and settle in the recently acquired Louisiana Purchase, ranging over 800,000 square miles of pure, untamed wilderness. People from all over America traveled west in search of great fortune, from gold to oil, with many also wanting to make a new life for themselves. Some were outcasts, shunned from society and were forced to move out, while others were desperate families in search for a new place to settle down. Yet while these riches had been found to a certain extent, none of the early travelers were prepared to find the biggest treasure of them all...
Dinosaurs.
These prehistoric beasts are indeed real and haven't been discovered until the first travelers set foot onto the wild wild West. From vicious carnivorous monsters, to the gentle gaint herbivores, these creatures from a time long before man ever set foot captivated the traveling audience. It didn't take long for the settlers to begin taming them for their own purposes. Now in the 1870s, dinosaurs have become a popular staple in the West. They are used for various roles, including for food, clothing, transportation, herders, and even pets. Even with the recent introduction of the steam locomotive as the transcontinental railroad finished in 1869, do they still live on bigger than ever.
Of course, when it comes to taming these magnificent beasts, the Americans were not the first to tame them. The Wild West was originally owned by the natives living peacefully in their tribal communities. Some of these tribes welcomed the new white men, while others violently attempted to run them out of time. The Spanish from the south have also tamed their own dinosaurs from South America when they first planted their boots on the shore, with rumors saying that some of their creatures were exports from different continents such as Africa and Asia. Even the British in northern Canada have tamed their own assortment of dinosaurs in that region, as well as giant furry mammals like Mammoths, dire wolves and the like. But one thing is for certain. By the time the settlers first came in, they had already mastered the art of taming and using these dinosaurs to their advantage as large mounts and trackers. We only gained this knowledge from them, more particularly from the Native Americans, and only recently did we almost perfect the craft ourselves. We even began breeding our own dinosaurs. This can come for the better of us... or the worst for the natives.
Now here you are, a settler who has just made himself comfy within the confines of a small town named Sailridge Village. Located in the middle of Montana near the infamous "Hell Creek Formation", this low-lying town is a usually quiet spot for those wanting a quick pit-stop before heading farther west. It's also a popular place for "dinoboys", dinosaur herders who have patches of land several miles off town. Are you one of these adventure seeking riders? Or are you a simple settler just wanting to live the quiet life?
So howdy stranger, how may I help you?
Hey guys! I couldn't resist making another roleplay, this one being brand new and in my opinion it's a real cool concept! I based this RP off an artist named Shaun Keenan, a concept artist in the video game industry, who has made a kickstarter to ship off an artbook containing many pictures of old western themed dinosaur pictures, all for the sake of providing inspiration to anyone (link is at the top of the page). This idea caught my eye so much that I decided to make a roleplay based off it. If enough rough and ready players join (lets go by four or five), the roleplay can start.
So just a few simple ground rules: Obviously you can play as both humans and dinosaurs. However, I do highly encourage that you use dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals based off those found in North America. So don't use dinosaurs such as Velociraptor, Spinosaurus, Theriznosaurus, or any non-American dinosaurs (at least not yet), although you can use their American counterparts such as Utahraptor, Oxalaia, Nothronychus, etc. There will also be limits into what kind of dinosaur your characters can use, mostly when it comes to the larger ones, simply as I highly encourage diversity in the cast.
For example, large Carnivores (Tyrannosaurus, Allosaurus, etc) have a limit of three spaces (I take one so technically two more remain). This is the only category that the rule applies for.
Like I also said earlier, you do not have to make a dinosaur character, rather you can also make prehistoric animals from the Paleozoic and Cenozoic periods. Also make sure your gear is history-accurate. This RP starts/takes place in 1872, so muskets, rifles and even gatling guns are some of the weapons that can be found back in the day. No machine guns, lasers, missiles, or anything like that. We also have the basic rules of RP (no godmodding, metagaming, etc)
If there are any other questions regarding the RP, I will be happy to answer them. I'd like to see the support of passionate roleplayers and posting times should at the very least be once a week (I will move on with the story within Friday or Saturday of every week so try not to be late). If you feel you can't post on that particular date, I can give you a one day extension if need be, but no more.
When creating human characters, I do stress making human character pictures being either realistic or western concept art... no anime pictures please.
So with that being said, where's the big, the bad, and the ugly people at?
