This RP is inspired by old school revenge films like Deathwish, Unforgiven and Get Carter. More recent films are the original Old Boy, John Wick and Kill Bill. It also has a 100 Bullets a comic series by Brian Azarello and a little bit of the tropes I like in my own writing because me. You don't need to read the material to know what this RP is like nor the movies but it's kinda preferrred you at least read the wiki entries
You play someone who was wronged by a group of bad people. It can be lowlife thugs, organized crime, a political group or any group really. You start out damaged physically, mentally and skill wise since this was a very recent beating you just survived. They also probably killed or kidnapped your love one. You're in a dark alley and you get a vision of an old, scarred Asian man smoking a cigarette flipping off those who wronged you and telling you he HAS the way to get them back forever. Since you're in an RP you say yes. You head to a cabin in the woods where you meet the team of fellow "Trees" as the man you've seen from your who calls him self "Scratch Cassidy" despite not being remotely Irish. Together with your fellow Trees and Mr Scratch, the team of wronged individuals will face off those who delivered pain upon them.
The RP is gritty with a healthy dose of questioning one's sanity as you accepted to follow a man who just might be insane and is training you into being a killing machine and literally giving you powers for the sole purpose of killing people who wronged you. Superpowers are existent but you will not start out with them and they're low-level (the highest power level is around Alan Scott the Golden Age Green Lantern who while fairly powerful for a Golden Age superhero was thwarted by a club because it was made of wood). Will you as Trees get revenge on those who wronged them? Is Scratch Cassidy a benevolent man? Will you find closure somewhere else with your newfound friends forged in tragedy?
Here are some things I will add before you plan out your character.
While you can play any age, this game I think would be A LOT more rewarding RP wise if you play someone older late 20s and up for instance. They have their lives planned out (usually), have a spouse and kids, have some fleshed out skills and also in order for this game to matter. You gotta lose something. A teen or a young 20 year old might have dreams, hopes and aspirations but apart from a prodigy or planning since birth I doubt he is happy with something like a full on life as I described.
Superpowers and how you get them will be discussed via PM with me and you. The superpowers are in a way like a steroid or a PED, they will help you A LOT but they're parasitic, will harm you in the long run and given to you by a sketchy source. You can always decline the superpower offer mind you.
I put Romance in the genre for a reason, while this is a throwback to 80s revenge flicks where love interests... die among other things, love can be a powerful motivator and an anchor for your character to not turn into a sociopathic product of the cycle of violence. It can be a PC or an NPC, let me know and I can tailor make a soulmate for your PC that can also challenge them in some ways. Remember you've lost someone (probably permanently) you aren't going to be attached from the get go.
I have A LOT of ways to deal with a lot of things. Don't expect this game to be as linear as the movies it is inspired from.
I am sticking to a small group RP. I'm already running another small group RP and these two will have my hands full.
That's all now start throwing stuff into your vengeance gazpacho since it's best served cold :P
