A species of large, carnivorous bird that primarily scavenges dead creatures for food but will also hunt when the dead are scarce. It sports a wing span of more than 8 feet, a serrated beak for tearing flesh, and jaw strength sufficient to break slivers off bones which it eats. To keep their young safe from predators, the females, rather than build a nest, have a special egg pouch that holds the eggs until they hatch. Once hatched, the young will live within this pouch for a period of several weeks before being strong enough to fly on their own. The crown of horns a top their heads are only present in males and are used in mating displays as a sign of virility, much like a peacock's fan.
