I was hoping to make a Persona RP taking place in a time period slightly ahead of modern times, within a fictional multicultural metropolis in Japan. The year would be 2023 with some fictional liberties being taken, but not overly so to the point where anything is drastically different.
Plot: A series of mass blackouts have been occurring throughout the city, sending entire quarters of the metropolis into darkness for hours. As soon as a single sector is fixed, another is quickly darkened in the same way. Electrical companies and industry professionals can't figure it out at all, but some fires have started as a result of the inconsistent electricity turning on and off so often, resulting in some losing their homes.
Among all of this there are even rumors of kidnappers going around and abducting people, taking advantage of the total darkness to commit crimes. At first it was merely a person or two that was assumed to have been lost in the confusion, but as time goes on and the crisis worsens, more and more are vanishing in the night. No public statements have been made as not to cause a panic, and life continues as it always has, but law enforcement has been trying and failing to catch these kidnappers for months now.
A strange tidbit among all of it, however, is that supposedly some computers and technology have reportedly been seen still turned on and working amidst the blackouts despite that defying all reason. Medical and mental health professionals suggest it's likely hallucinations brought on by stress of the situation, but those theories have not stopped rumors spreading regardless; rumors that this is a curse on the city, and spirits are communicating to people through computers. The spirits are reaching out to them in hopes that they'll help atone for the sins of humanity, and of the city's many hidden secrets...
The party would consist of high school students as is traditional of Persona, attending the same school. Now since Persona games are long, I'll be focusing on developing the supernatural RPG side of it more than the dating sim/visual novel aspect. As such I'll be entrusting the players to do what they will with the VN side of it, deciding how their day-to-day life is when not fighting for their lives.
I myself won't be playing a character, but rather all of the NPCs as a DM in a D&D campaign would. This goes doubly so for enemies, who I will control during combat.
Character death will be a real possibility, as I feel any story involving combat and the unknown loses its tension without the threat of it. Since it's a casual RP I won't be trying to make a bloodbath here, but just so everybody knows that there is a risk of death for all players and there's no guarantee that the heroes will get their happy ending because of that.
Players will also not be allowed to select Wild Cards for this RP, though there will be some level of customization to be revealed later. Everybody gets their Persona, and that's how it'll be.
Lastly, after everybody has awakened their Personas in the RP, I will PM every player a "secret role" regarding the game that only they will know OOC and IC. It could be a rush of information or perhaps even lost memories that came to them with the mental surge of their Persona's awakening. Whether you want to reveal that role and the information your character knows, either in-game or out of game, is up to you. Depending on what it is though it could be dangerous to reveal your role to somebody else. For all you know, somebody else's role will conflict with yours. These roles will be selected at random by me.
