Hello and welcome, and thank you for your time!

For some time now I have had a craving for a role play based around medieval era courtliness. A story of nobility and politics of old. Majestic debutante balls and courtly romance, arranged marriage and political alliance, scandal and corruption. You see the gist.

For such a story, I have picked the great city of Milan, Italy. “Why Milan” you may ask, “why not England or France or even Spain?” Well it is quite simple really, my choice of Milan that is. In the twelfth century, Milan was one of Italies’ several independent city states, like Venice and Florence for example. In this particular period, Italy was a fractured region, disunited. All the while surrounded by superior powers.

France, the Holy Roman Empire, Byzantium to the east and the Muslims of North Africa south Mediterranean Sea. The independent state of Milan was in a precarious position. Also, Milan was a city of progressivism (compared to other states and factions of the time) that also aspired to break away from the standard feudal system of nobility and peasants. A city of trade, culture, religion, politics, and scandal, I feel that Milan is the perfect place for our story to play out.

The skeletal premise of the RP is simple; my partner will role as a young noblewoman who, throughout the story, works her way into power in Milan. Be it through marriage, clandestine plots and backroom deals, or charisma and charm.
When it comes to the woman’s origins I am quite open, be she a native born noble lady of Milan or a foreigner recently married into Milanese wealth. This of course shall be discussed with my partner to be.

The story will predominantly be set in the city of Milan, though will at times branch out as far as Rome, Paris, and even Prague. As for time setting, roughly from 1090 (‘ish) to around 1120. As stated, the story will focus on the elements of courtly politics, including the grittier side. If interested please PM me directly and we can begin discussion!
