The Foundation maintains a vast database of information regarding anomalies world wide. The primary Foundation database contains summaries of such anomalies and emergency procedures for their maintenance, containment, and/or termination in the event of a threat to human life and/or national security. Anomalies exist in many forms, some more perceivable then others. These anomalies are either contained at one of the Foundation's myriad of Secure Facilities or contained on-site if relocation is deemed unfeasible.

To keep track of anomalies and the procedures used to handle them, the Foundation database uses a categorization system, allowing for quick access to vital information in case of emergency events. Designated as "Specimen" the anomalies are categorized by their manifestation "type" and threat level "class." Once categorized, the anomalies are given a file designation and identification number.
Specimen types

Anomalies have been divided into three observable forms.

Object - Specimens of the 'Object' type tend to be inanimate and without sentience or observable life in any form or fashion.
Entity - Specimens of the 'Entity' type display some form consciousness and/or qualities of biological physiology.
Phenomenon - The 'Phenomenon' specimen type refers to any location, event, or free-standing anomaly.

Specimen Classes

Once the threat level of a specimen has been assessed, it will be given one of four classifications.

Beta - Beta class specimen may be effectively and reliably contained with relatively minimal effort. This does not indicate that the containment procedures are unnecessary, as many Beta specimen can be quite dangerous if handled recklessly or in the right context. The primary distinction that defines a Beta specimen is that it poses no threat to human life and well being what so ever when appropriate procedures are in effect.
Alpha - When a specimen displays an unpredictable nature or qualities beyond our scientific knowledge, it is classified as Alpha. Specimen of this class generally require more diligence to keep contained than Beta specimen and tend to be dangerous toward human life if appropriate procedures are not in place.
Omega - The classification 'Omega' is assigned to specimen that display an active, immediate threat toward public safety and/or a vigorous hostility toward human life. These specimen are capable of causing significant destruction and fatalities if not properly contained. Protocols must be extensive and followed precisely to prevent a breach of containment.
Omni - The 'Omni' classification is only given to specimens that are not only a confirmed threat to human life, but also have the potential for the devastation and destruction of the human species and/or space time in the event of a breach of containment. Omni specimens must be neutralized or terminated as soon as possible if possible. If destruction of the specimen continues to be unfeasible due to apparent invulnerability or similar circumstance, a decisive method of containment must be devised and put into place, no matter the cost to Foundation or earthly resources..

File Entry - "Flesh Flu"

Specimen ID - 002

Classification - Omega Phenomenon

Description - Specimen 002 is a spirillum class bacterial infection transmitted through physical, skin on skin contact with the effected cells of an individual. 002 infections are characterized by inflammation of the respiratory tract and by fever, chills, and muscular pain. Symptoms also include nausea, vomiting, sporadic genetic mutation on a massive scale, profuse sweating, headache, and in a few cases, death. 002 displays infectious properties and symptoms identical to influenza with the difference being that 002 appears to infect and alter its host's genetic code. Subjects infected with 002 will experience rapid mutation, growth, and loss of biomass, appendages, and organs.

Some genetic growths may detach from the individuals body and display a rudimentary form of locomotion. This behavior is not subject to the will of the infected individual as once these growths have detached, they become independent organisms until they expire. Despite it's anomalous properties, the human immune system seems to be capable of synthesizing a method of fighting and overcoming the infection. However this process typically takes between 4 and 7 weeks and can vary depending on the condition of the effected individuals health prior to 002 infection. Once all traces of the infection have been terminated from a hosts body, their genetic code and physiology will return to normal, though subjects tend to retain striae over the entirety of their epidermis where mutations had formed, and acute muscle pains. No known cure for specimen 002 has been developed.

Containment Protocol - In the event of a 002 outbreak, any and all effected individuals are to be detained and any location deemed contaminated is to be quarantined immediately after specimen confirmation. Any attempts quarantined individuals make to escape containment is to be considered a threat to global security and neutralized appropriately. Once all subjects infected with specimen 002 have been located and contained, they are to be transported to the nearest Foundation facility and placed in a sanitary containment ward. Effected subjects are to be cared for by on site medical staff equipped with bio-hazard protective gear until such time that they expire or recover from the infection. Any growths that detach from host are to be considered a Omega class entity and neutralized immediately via incineration. Any subjects that make a full recovery from a 002 infection are to be questioned and then administered an amnestic drug. Dosages vary relative to the amount of time subject was detained.

A sample of the 002 bacteria is to be stored on-site at any given facility in a Quarantined, heavy containment vault for the purposes of research towards synthesis of a cure. Access to 002 samples is highly classified and rarely granted. All experiments and research involving 002 is to be cleared by a Department Head or higher ranking officer.

File Entry - "Bump in the night"

Specimen ID - 003

Classification - Beta Entity

Description - Specimen 003 is a hairless, genderless, pale skinned humanoid measuring approximately 43 inches from head to toe with no other discernible physical features other then a pair of reflective eyes and a mouth with a proto-sapient dental structure similar to that of an ape. It's eyes lack visible irises or pupils and resemble white pearls when viewed in light. 003 appears to prefer spaces devoid of light and becomes distressed when exposed to a source of light higher then 10 lumens. When in a space that has an area of at least 5 feet by 5 feet that is at a sufficient light level, entity will begin construction of a lair, utilizing any materials provided in it's immediate vicinity or any areas near by that are at the sufficient light level. This can include but is not limited to; furniture, clothing, household appliances, wall panels, floorboards, and any other materials or items that it deems feasible for the construction of it's lair.

Most active during the night, 003's diet consists of insects, rodents, birds, small mammals, and scraps of human food acquired in the absence of human activity. Specimen doesn't observe any natural hostility toward humans, however seems to actively avoid human contact when possible. In the event 003 encounters a human or animal subject, specimen will cease movement and maintain eye contact with said subject. There have been no reports of violent encounters involving 003 however specimen does display physical strength equal to that of an adolescent human male and can inflict minimal injury if not handled appropriately.

Containment Protocol - Specimen is to be contained in a standard 7ft by 7ft by 7ft cell and provided with the appropriate habitat and provisions necessary for it's survival. Light level within the cell is to be maintained at a steady level of no more then 10 lumens. Cell is to be cleaned by at least two(2) Test Subject class personnel every 48 hours. No direct or indirect interaction is to be made with 003 at any time without clearance from a Department Admin and any actions performed by 003 are to be monitored carefully and documented by on-site researchers. In the event of a code 003 breach of containment, all departments in and around the breach area are to be sealed and locked until ECS core personnel arrive on site to reestablish capture and containment of specimen 003.

File Entry - "Simon says smile"

Specimen ID - 004

Classification - Alpha Object

Description - There are currently seven identical instances of specimen 004 that are, or have been, under Foundation control to this date. Specimen 004 is a black VHS cassette from an unknown make, with the title 'Simon Says Smile' printed across the front with each word branching out from a single 'S' in a assortment of text colors. The tape contains approximately 032:47:42 minutes of colorless footage featuring a small wooden stage with a circus themed backdrop. At 002:37:46, a character in clown attire emerges on screen from stage left and moves to stage center. The character introduces himself as 'Simon the Clown' and then proceeds to play Simon Says with the viewer, voicing several commands most often beginning with the statement; "simon says." After commands that don't include the previously mentioned statement, Simon will pause for a few seconds before laughing briefly and waving his finger in a disapproving manner following with the statement; "I didn't say simon says."

The first of Simon the Clown's commands are basic activities such as clapping your hands, jumping up and down, and touching your nose. As the footage progresses, the commands issued will start to become violent or malicious in nature. Towards the end of the video, the directions given will often result in fatal consequences. At 018:01:07, Simon issues the command; "Simon says set a fire." At 026:19:59, Simon asks the viewer to kill anyone in their immediate vicinity. At the end of the footage, Simon the Clown issues his last command to "Smile" although doesn't say either "Simon says" or "I didn't say simon says." After which the footage abruptly ends. Throughout the entirety of the video, the camera shot very slowly pans in on Simon the Clown.

Any human subjects viewing 004 footage will be compelled by an unknown memetic or telepathic force to follow the instructions given by it's featured character. The longer a subject is exposed to the footage, the stronger the impulse to follow the commands becomes. Willingly following the directions has also been noted enhance the video's effects. All documented subjects to date who have terminated while observing 004 were noted to be smiling postmortem. If the footage is discontinued, all observed effects cease and subjects will resume their normal functions. Also, viewing the video or audio alone doesn't seem to cause any of the observed effects. When questioned afterwards, surviving subjects have expressed no awareness of any memetic or telepathic interference in their choices, and have all claimed they performed the actions willingly. When asked why, they all stated; "Because Simon said to do it."

Containment Protocol - All instances of specimen 004 are to be contained within a double lock safe and guarded by two(2) security officer class personnel. 004's storage container is not to be opened by anyone without clearance from a Department Admin. Any tests or experiments involving the use of a 004 instance are to be monitored by two(2) Researchers from a separate room. Any personnel observing signs of being effected by 004 outside of controlled procedures are to be immediately restrained and transported to the Psychiatric Department for mental evaluation.

Specimen ID - 007
Classification - Alpha Entity
Description - Specimen 007 is a entity of unknown genus, measuring 14.5 inches from head to tail and weighing approximately 18.7 ounces. It is quadrupedal and has a rough carapace made up of an exoskeletal shell covered in a scaly hide. It's maw is 5.7 inches wide with 47 serrated carnassial teeth along it's upper and lower jaw ranging from 0.7 inches to 2.1 inches in length. 007 has a Bite force quotient of 58, matching that of a common house cat. A small, stinger like appendage rests within 007's mouth. Analysis reveals the stingier is connected to a small venom sack within the specimens upper abdomen. The sack contains a complex neurotoxin made up of several unknown compounds as well a novel peptide which quickly induces a sleep like state upon intra-cerebral injection.

While in a close proximity to a prey item, specimen 007 will attempt to incapacitate the subject by biting them near the brain stem, usually at the back of the neck or head. Once 007 has latched onto it's prey, using it's teeth as an anchor, it will inject it's venom. After 20 to 30 seconds, subject will become debilitatingly drowsy until they are rendered unconscious from the toxins. Once in this state, 007 will begin draining all bodily fluids from it's prey, including blood, sweat, urine, saliva, mucus, and any other water based solutions within the subjects body. The process of complete bodily dehydration has been observed to take around 3 or 4 days, depending on the size of the prey item. Termination of the individual usually occurs within 36 hours. While feeding, 007 will begin to excrete a dark green slime from an orifice on it's underbelly. This has been discovered to be the byproduct of the specimens digestive process or what could be considered it's fecal matter.

Once it has completely drained it's prey, 007 will seek refuge in a dark and confined space where it will enter a catatonic state until it detects the presence of another prey item through heat detecting sensory organs in it's tail.

To this date, it is unknown how long specimen 007 can survive while it is dormant, or if any other instances of the specimen exist. Further research into the specimen, it's origins, and the composition of it's venom and secretions has been approved.
