School: Northwood Academy
Name: Alexander Henry James Cavendish-Bentinck of Portland Titchfield and Bolsover
Nicknames: Alex, the Leftenant.
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian
Nationality: British
Sexuality: Hetero
Height: 6’ (183 cm)
Weight: 172 lbs (78 kg)
Skin Colour: Tan
Hair Colour: Chestnut brown
Hair Style: Short, neatly combed, beginnings of a moustache
Eye Colour: Green
Body Build: Toned
Tattoos/Scars/Piercings/etc: Burn mark on the inside of the left arm from a hot 75mm shell casing.
School Outfit: Standard academy uniform with the sweater vest. When the zombies appear he rolls up the sleeves. Manages to somehow keep it almost spotless during the time he’s wearing it. Instead of a watch he has a timepiece on a chain in one of the chest pockets. Always carries around a long straight cane that unbeknown to anyone is actually a sword-cane.
Town Outfit: Starts off with looting a nifty full body motorcycle suit on the grounds that it will protect him from zombie bites. While it does do this, the suit is also too hot too keep on all the time. When it gets too warm for the full body suit he will settle for just the tough motorcycle jacket, jeans and a pair of good walking boots. Even later he switches to a somewhat more comfortable WWII british army battledress. His underwear is standard a simple white t-shirt, white woolen socks and cotton underpants in the colors of the Union Jack.
Personality: An offensively stereotypical british Officer and a Gentleman (caps obligatory). He exemplifies ‘keep calm and carry on’ even in the face of the apocalypse. Alex does not swear, does not panic and remains unfailingly polite. In face of a total Out of Context Problem such as a zombie uprising, a girl confessing her feelings to him or being severely wounded he completely freezes up for half a dozen seconds or so while his brain reboots. After the freeze he returns to his normal polite self as if nothing had happened. This happens only once per Out of Context Problem, so once he has his arm broken once it will not cause him to freeze up once it happens again.
Alex suffers from a chronic hero syndrome, he cannot turn down cries for help no matter the situation. Everyone he fails to save he sees as a personal failure, a stain on his conscience. Naively he believes deeply that there is always some good in people, and will give his enemies a second chance. Even when he starts to learn that the way the world should work is different from the way the world does work he will try to change the world rather than himself.
Headstrong and slightly full of himself he will either take up the mantle of leadership or at the very least attempt to advice to whomever winds up in charge. Though he is slightly arrogant Alex has a fine grasp of social dynamics and will try to de-escalate any conflicts, even those started by himself. When someone has shown that they know what they are doing he will patiently listen to them in their areas of their expertise.
Family: Grandfather, Bernard Richards Bentinck of Portland Titchfield and Bolsover, 82, Duke, terminally ill.
Mother, Johanna Maria Cavendish-Bentinck of Portland, 47, ‘housemother’, Alive
Father, Egbert Fitzgerald Bentinck of Portland Titchfield and Bolsover, 49, Member of Parliament, Alive
Younger brother, Basil Robrecht Cavendish-Bentinck of Portland, 13, Alive
Background: Born as the grandson of the 9th Duke of Portland in England Alexander never had what one could consider a normal life. From the time he could talk he was taught everything he needed to become a genuine gentleman, ranging from etiquette (“Pinky out.”) to how to iron his own clothes (“Just because no serving staff is available does not mean you can walk around looking like a slob boy!”) to fencing (“A gentleman without a sword is improperly armed.”). The only real way he could escape out of the stiff corset was in a shared hobby with his grandfather: Historical re-enactment. The duke owned a large tract of land used by several historical societies used to simulate old battlefields. Alexander in particular preferred the World War II era battles, riding along in a restored Churchill VII Infantry Tank. The young boy revelled in the chance to act free of the restraints he usually had to deal with, and not even an accident with a hot shell casing would stop him from returning year after year. Eventually he took on the ‘role’ of a Lieutenant, though some say the act bleeds through to his daily life given that since then he has taken to carrying around a sword at all times (first a plastic toy, later his cane-sword).
Alexander has a distant relation with his father Egbert, a member of the british parliament for the Conservative Party. Though they do not hate each other per se, between the long absences related to work and the fact his father never really understood his son’s hobbies they seem to live past one another. Alexander always addresses his father as either ‘father’ or if in private, ‘papa’. NEVER by name. The same goes for his mother and grandfather.
For most of his life Alexander was raised by his mother on the family estate. Although she did not fully endorse his historical hobby she tried to channel it into something productive rather than deny him outright. As such Alexander has toured most of the great British museums as well as a great deal of knowledge on world history, though his specialty remains WWII. In a final bid to get him to stop playing around in the mud so much (her words) his mother actually enrolled him into an international school in the United States for a year in order to ‘broaden his horizons’. Unaware of this Alex got involved into the history club and contacted local re-enactment groups regardless.
In school Alex is well known for his stern, disciplined attitude and his odd speaking habits. While not necessarily liked, he is respected for his knowledge as well as his integrity. While not at the immediate top of the social pecking order he isn’t that far removed from it, serving as a neutral go-between for various cliques.
Strengths: Combat (both close and ranged), social skills, stabilising factor,
Weaknesses: Arrogance, naivety, no survival skills, chronic hero syndrome
Likes: Tea, history, classical music, displaying his manners, a quiet evening by the fireplace, Sabaton (NOT at the start of the RP), historical reenactment, Tanks, swordplay, bagpipes.
Dislikes: Coffee, dirty anything (clothes, words, w/e), being shown up, the French, the Germans, being called a Scot, Welsh, Irish, American etcetera. and pop music.
School Clubs: Fencing, history
Fears: Being alone, pain, someone seeing his actual feelings through the walls he has built up.
Romantic Interest: Someone who can see through his facade of politeness, who will comfort him when he figures out that he can’t save everyone no matter how hard he tries, and provides a listening ear when he rants.
Opinion of other school: They are still humans in Alex’ view, albeit crude and uncivilised ones. Decidedly in need of moral and intellectual guidance in face of the apocalypse. He has never spoken to a member of the other school nor did he ever feel the need to.
School weapons: Sword cane
Town Weapons: Basket-hilted sword, Lee-enfield bolt action rifle with bayonet
Other Equipment: Sturdy high quality backpack with school books, later the books are dumped in favour of more useful equipment.
Anything Else: At the start of the story he has not heard any metal before, and if exposed he will start to like the genre as long as there is no ‘grunting’ involved. He knows the location of a historical reenactment depot where a supply of refurbished WWII weapons are held. Recently he had the Churchill VII shipped over, he knows it is in the Los Angeles harbour in a set of shipping crates. If circumstances allow he may pressure the group into picking it up (the tank is probably best for final the chapters, up to you what you want to do with it).

Roleplay: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/27142/posts/ooc?page=1
Name: David ‘Growler’ Cain
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Elemental Affinity: Air
Personality: While his appearance and intelligence would suggest a high class upbringing the second David opens his mouth this image is taken out back, brutally beaten to death and then set on fire. His coarse speech is reminiscent of a soldier or a dockworker. He speaks his mind with minimal regard for who is around to hear it, bearing his opinions openly and proudly.
Devoted to his friends David will throw himself into harms way without hesitation to help his precious people. In his own words, “If I say you’re my friend I mean it. You could come into my house and fuck my sister. Not that I have one but still, it’s the thought that counts.”
He hates his biological family with a passion.
Background: David hails from the family behind the influential Cain transport corporation, from great coastal city of Mokum-am-Amster. During his childhood he first appeared to be growing up into what his parents wanted, right up until his age twelve. It was then that the family of his best friend Jakob fell from grace, their own financial empire collapsing nearly overnight in the crisis of ‘49. All of a sudden David was prohibited from seeing Jakob because the boy was now ‘beneath his status’. The incident marked the start of his teenaged rebellion years. Together with a few other friends David often snuck out and visited Jakob anyway, as well as generally doing his best to be just barely obedient enough to not get punished. At sixteen his father had had enough of the troublesome teen pushing his boundaries and sent him to a boot camp for troubled teens with the intent to ‘instill some discipline’ into his psyche.
At the camp out into the western wastes, David quickly made friends with the more rebellious teens there. It was during one of their escape attempts that they encountered a troop of soldiers spying on and making fun of the misery the boys were in. ‘Sacrificing’ himself, David distracted the troop while his friends continued to make a run for it. While they were all caught and returned to camp eventually, David’s courage and willingness for self-sacrifice impressed the corporal in charge of the squad. After a long heart to heart talk with the woman, as well as seeing how the soldiers treated one another, David changed. His behaviour became muted. His act straightened out. Though still not the model son his parents hoped for, David ceased to make endless trouble for no good reason.
Right up until his eighteenth birthday, upon which he ran away from home and enlisted in the air force.
Just barely old enough to qualify for service, David aced the entry exam and qualified for fighter pilot. As the corporal had told him years ago, occasionally it’s best to wait before you make your move. And no matter how influential the Cain family was, they could not just pluck him out of the airbase he was training at. Then once it had become clear he possessed the qualities required of a guardian all of a sudden he was shipped off to the mystical forests where the elves lived. Given he has had to give up the dream job of a fighter pilot for this, he hopes guardianship is as good as the rumours say it is.

Name: Jessica Steele
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Nationality: [UNITED KINGDOM x English]
History: Veteran mech pilot. Enthusiastic. Inspired by magical girl anime before she became a full fledged pilot to the great annoyance of her partner, the Russian made powered armour Konstantin.
Developed by recently started Vladof Arms company Konstantin featured a promising new control set-up that allowed a pilot to literally meld minds with their machine. Due to politics both Russian elements as well as the US and UK were interested in seeing the experiment fail and sabotaged the selection process for the pilot. The new system required a deep bond between (wo)man and machine, and the line of reasoning was that a strict and disciplined soldier would therefore work the best. Enter the then private Jessica: A wild and unruly girl from east London that was nearly a stereotype squaddy. Foul mouthed, temperamental, a liver on par with the average Russian and boisterous she at first glance was the least suitable candidate available.
In an unexpected twist it became readily apparent that she was the only one drift compatible with Konstantin, her fiery nature tempered by his thoughtful and methodical habits and her intuition and aggressiveness overcoming his stiff mechanical predictability. Within a month both partners had made a lasting impact on each other, both personalities subtly shifting to match each other even better than before. In the aftermath of the experiment using the ‘drift interface’ has become rare as the effects of the mental contamination are scrutinised. As for the pair themselves neither of them tend to concern themselves with the philosophical consequences of their union. As far as they are concerned they are perfect soul mates and both are happy about it.
Currently the two are stationed at the to teach fresh faced recruits what end of a knife is pointy and how to tie the shoelaces of their mechs while the research staff look into further effects of the drift interface, and how to refine the system for possible future use.
Quirks:
Squaddie - As a British soldier she well versed in the arts of combat, offensive black humour, and not giving a single shite about even the worst of circumstances.
Likes to think of herself as a magical girl though she has not been able to convince Konstantin of adopting a flashier exterior other than the distinctive stylised visor that has become their signature. Outside of this she enjoys multiplayer shooters and annoying her husband. She will call out her attacks in combination with Konstantin, a remnant of the voice activated weapon systems used before the advent of mental command systems.
Dislikes: While fairly lax on dress codes she is strict on discipline and will not hesitate to shout down the everloving bejeesus out of anyone who thinks ‘Sarge’ is the proper way to address a Sergeant.
“Sarge? Fecking SARGE?! There are three sorts of sarge, massage, sausage and passage. You call me sarge again and I'll massarge a sausarge up your passarge! AM I CLEAR?!” - J
A fierce patriot one should never talk smack about the Queen, the armed forces or Britain in general when she is in earshot. Jessica will deck the person in question.
Skills:
Hand-to-hand (Expert): With the advance of both Ren and Ki, Jessica holds the opinion that firearms have become relatively less important than being able to administer a reasonable amount of force face to face. As such she is well versed in hand to hand combat, preferring the russian Sambo style martial arts she learned from her husband.
Sword fighting (Expert): Related to the hand to hand combat Jessica has been trained with to use the swords integrated into Konstantin’s wrists with lethal efficiency even if she prefers to clobber people up the head with elbow rocket propelled fists.
Firearms (Professional): Although she specialises in hand to hand, she is able to slot a target once every two hundred rounds. This makes her a lot more useful than most spams (aka Americans) who on average spend around two hundred and fifty thousand to achieve the same effect.
Ren: ???
Ki: She can use it's basic functions to strengthen herself, but projection interferes with the alchemy or her armour.
Pilot: объект 1340 - Константин (Objekt 1340 - Konstantin)
Others: She and Konstantin have a habit of finishing each other's sentences.
Relationships: Married to Konstantin for little over two years now.

Name:объект 1340 - Константин (Objekt 1340 - Konstantin)
Gender: Male
Age: 4
Nationality: [RUSSIA x Russian]
History:Konstantin now actually prefers his human avatar over his combat form.
Quirks: Likes x Dislikes
Skills:
Extreme strength: From the research notes of Konstantin’s development team:
As already noted in the combat analysis Object 1340 is capable of extreme feats of strength. As of V1.12.3 a theoretical upper limit has yet to be determined. Preliminary testing has yielded insufficient data (see experiment notes 473 ‘On bench pressing a cargo truck’). Approval for more experiments is pending until a suitably heavy object can be located. The research staff would like to request an old cargo ship from the Tokyo Harbour police for this purpose.
Structural integrity field:
An effect first observed by Ki users when lifting objects of sufficiently high mass. It prevents Ki users from sinking into the ground or having an object they are lifting suffer structural failure due to the small contact areas of the human foot and hand. Object 1340 can use a more refined version of the effect to increase stress and strain resistance of anything he comes into contact with by several orders of magnitude. The field prevents pilot injury, armour breaches and destructive capabilities of handheld improvised weapons. Field cannot be applied to objects not physically touching object 1340 and it’s range appears limited; theoretically does not extend for more than 30 meters. Attempts to reverse the effect (eg. disintegration) have been unsuccessful. See also experiment notes no. 126 ‘Car baseball’, no. 24 ‘Kinetic energy defence tests’ and no. 3 ‘Klingon disruptor experiment’.
Moderate speed boost:
Given that force is equal to mass times acceleration and that object 1340 is capable of extreme feats of strength it is easy to make the incorrect assumption he is extremely fast as well. Despite superhuman speed
