The Story: Short-Lived Peace
______________________________
Hundreds of years have passed since the legendary Heroes of Light restored balance to the world. And as such, the four crystals remain safe and peaceful, hidden in their nations of origin. All has seemed well for the passing years, and while many famous warriors of strong-will and heart have lived their course, the world has not seen great peril for some time now. But all good things do eventually come to an end...
Ten years ago, Carnelia the northern nation which houses the Fire Crystal erupted into a civil war. Notably being the most advanced of the nations, a great power struggle began when the technology of Magitek surfaced. Being developed by the leading engineer and scientist of the nation Cid Rurilon, the power his discoveries and inventions rendered him blessed him with an army of followers, and these fanatics believed in the inventor so much as they bore arms against the soldiers of their own country at the wave of his hand. The long ruling royal bloodline in which the country is named after had always been famous for being quite secrete, though the law of Carnelia has always been quite fair and their king Athesis Carnelia IV was known to treat the people of his nation equally, so the people openly sided with their king, causing the Rurilon faction to openly begin attacking even the average citizens of their own nation. Unable to intervene without taking a side, the other nations were only able to close their borders to this kingdom set into chaos. Soon walls were built to prevent their conflict from spilling into other lands, and since these walls were built, no one really knows hat has happened within Carnelia. Only that smoke continues to rise from every inch of the land, giving off the idea that the war is not yet over.
Generally, everywhere else has not been troubled for decades. Meraldia to the south has continued to prosper with it's many green fields of farmland decorated with small villages to give the nation a very rural feel to it, completely intentional however, since the large city of Darud was destroyed during their former corrupt king's attempt to summon a powerful creature through manipulating their Wind Crystal. Though thankfully the Heroes of Light evacuated the city and defeated the king before the creature could be fully summoned, though the city lost in the process the people of Meraldia have as a group decided to leave the former city in ruins as a reminder of what their former leader had done. Celestia to the east has also seen no conflict since the dark times, though the seas have continued to rise, they continue to worship their local Water Crystal and have since then spread their religion of Crystalism into other nations. With the Azure Temple at Celestia's center, people flock towards the inner territories of the country to learn the teachings of the temple's great Sage, and to gain knowledge of the crystals. Finally, to the west is Citra a great nation surrounded by mountains, though the ruling power still makes an effort to make contact with the southern and eastern nations, though it's mainly due to the fact that most of their land is rocky and dry which is difficult to grow crops from. But they do have other resources! Citra's mines are the main supplier of metal to each nation, of many kinds and many uses they are prosperous in their own right, and being the nation in which the Earth Crystal calls home, the odds of them mining themselves dry is unlikely.
And while the world shut it's doors to the dangers that began to stir, you can ignore the darkness for only so long..
The Players: The Successors of Light
______________________________
The sage of Celestia was once the mentor of the former Heroes of Light, furthermore he is the last living person to have been in contact with them, because of this, many souls of young and old flock to the Azure Temple seeking his guidance in hopes of being able to gain fame, power, or fortune from the knowledge he is able to offer. Most of those whom seek his council are treated as simple visitors, giving only tidbits of knowledge and answering of minor questions. But for some, he takes them deep beneath the temple... To show this person what it really takes to become a hero.
Below the cerulean temple tiles, below the earth, lies a chamber. The stone walls glow blue and the sound of waves could be heard coming from somewhere. If you were one of the few to be brought here, the sage would teach you about the heroes and the wonders they were capable of. He'd teach you about the dangers the heroes faced, the heroes every hero must face, and why they were called the Heroes of Light. After you've been enlightened with the simple truths, the danger of the two worlds, the sage would offer a final message before you departed. "Danger is never too far for the eye to see, and evil is only further in the distance, or hiding somewhere just in plain sight." The sage would then place a small blue crystal in your hands, and set you on your way. The question you succumb to is, were you just chosen to be one of the new heroes of this world? Or was that batty old sage just giving you what you wanted?
Basically, you're given a choice. Don't become a hero with the power you were just given, or become a hero with the power you were just given. If you choose not to become a hero, then sorry to break it to you, but you won't have a place in this RP until much later on. But if you do choose to be a hero, well, then you'll eventually find yourself aligned with a lot that shares your cause. What's that cause exactly? Well the funny thing is, the heroes will need to figure that out on their own. Is it the northern nation? Is it something else? Who knows?
