Thread rating system

I have an idea for an optionally anonymous (since people tend to be more honest when anonymous) rating system for RPs and other threads out of 5 stars (maybe with half-stars).

This would be very useful for sorting through the masses of new RPs and RP ideas there are.

Though, even this system might eventually get too crowded with 5/4.5 star threads over time, so there should be a filter feature to only display threads with a new post within a certain amount of time, or having been made within a certain amount of time before the search.

It would also be useful for users to like (and dislike?) individual posts, though they needn't have the star system, merely display the amount of likes and dislikes. And those shouldn't have the option of being anonymous, I think.

The rating system would be pretty pointless, I think. The creator and his friends who join will vote 5 stars, people who are interested will probably vote 5 stars, and very few people who read them and don't care to join would actually bother to vote. It'd just be high ratings all around, thus negating the point of the system. Alternatively, I could see some dickhead GMs going and 1 star voting all other threads just to make his look better. Mahz has previously talked about doing a system of tags to make searching for RPs be easily done though filtering for what you're interested in (such as selecting the Fandom, Vampire, and Romance tags to find Twilight and similar RPs, for instance), which will be much better for sorting through the tons of RPs because it'll be based on your interests rather than a generic voting system.

As for like/dislike systems, Mahz has said he's cool with a like-only system, but having dislikes be part of it would be shitty and lead to bad things.

I hate 5 point rating systems for forum topics. Jorick's illustrated just why they don't work, they're subjective as hell and not at all realistic. Also, as most threads wind up unrated, it's pointless to use as any real metric.

Hmm yeah, tags do sound better. Sorry for posting this, I should probably have thought about that. Not everyone is honest...
