Jenolen Station

This is not your Grandfather's Fleet
Here at Jenolen Station it is our mission to explore the grandest expanse ever known to the Federation ; Jenolen Station.

This is a Star Trek without the Stars
I some ways it's Steampunk Star Trek
I'm not saying that this is Steampunk because the Federation outside of Jenolen Dyson sphere is the same as in the shows.
Inside the sphere though the only way that the Federation can explore is by using High Tech Zeppelin which I will explain in the OOC

If you don't know what a Dyson sphere is then here's a quicky explanation from Memory Alpha a Star Trek Resource site

A Dyson sphere was a colossal spherical structure constructed around a star, completely surrounding it. The interior of the sphere would absorb the entire energy output of that star, allowing for lifeforms to live on the interior surface almost indefinitely. Such a structure was theorized by 20th century physicist Freeman Dyson in the late 1950s.

The Enterprise in orbit around the sphere
For the interior of a Dyson sphere to be habitable to most humanoid lifeforms, the radius of the sphere must be such that habitable temperatures (5 – 30 °C) are maintained. The radius would therefore depend on the size and the energy output of the star around which the sphere would be constructed; if a Dyson sphere were to be constructed around the Earth's sun, the radius would have to be approximately one astronomical unit. At such a radius, the interior surface area would be about 2.8 e17×1017 km2 (1.1 e17×1017 mi2), or 550 million times the entire surface area of the planet Earth. Such a surface area could easily support the lives of many quadrillions (1 e15×1015) of beings.

Unsurprisingly, due to the almost immeasurable amounts of effort, resources and time required to construct such an immense structure, only one Dyson sphere has ever been discovered. This particular sphere encased a G-type star and had a diameter of 200 million kilometers, giving it an internal surface area of approximately 250 million M-class planets. As no radiant sunlight or solar wind escaped from the sphere, starships were not able to detect it until they were almost on top of it. As a result, the USS Jenolan crashed onto it in 2294 after being pulled in by the sphere's immense gravity well while en route to the Norpin colony.

So as you can see this is a chance to explore like no other

Think of how advanced and powerful a race would need to be to build a Dyson Sphere?
They would have had to capture planets and small stars to crave up as building material

In the book Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, it is revealed that at the core of Onyx is a Slipspace rift that shunts those that pass through it to a structured Dyson Sphere, dubbed beforehand by the Forerunners as a Shield World Installation. It is separated from a normal space-time symmetry by advanced Forerunner Slipspace technology. Although Dr. Halsey calls it the Micro Dyson Sphere, the Sphere is 300 million kilometers (or approximately two astronomical units [1 AU is 149,598,000 km]) in diameter on the inside. The Micro Dyson Sphere's star has a spectra and energy output slightly smaller than the dimensions of Sol. This was going to be the haven where the Forerunners were to seek refuge when Halo activated, but no one knows what went wrong with their alleged plan, as the expanse appeared to be completely deserted when UNSC forces arrived. In Halo 3, these circumstances were revealed to be the result of the betrayal of the Forerunner AI 032 Mendicant Bias, whose defection to the Flood forced the Forerunners to abandon their plans to evacuate into the shield installations.

Basically, the structure fulfills its function as a "Shield World" perfectly. It protects the occupants of it and gives them a huge "world" to live in. Potentially, an entire new civilization could be constructed in a Dyson Sphere.

After their arrival in the Forerunner-constructed Dyson Sphere, Dr. Halsey explains the structure. She labels it a Micro Dyson Sphere because it is in fact very small, or perceived to be small when viewed from normal space. Linda also describes it as being in the bottom of a large bowl.

The Micro Dyson sphere is located in a factually compressed Slipstream space. In other terms, any object inside might appear to be a certain size, but inside the Slipstream bubble it is much, much larger. Consequently, they never left Trevelyan, but simply entered a Slipspace bubble.

"GREETINGS CADETS AND INTERESTED SERVING OFFICERS"

Jenolen Station Needs You
What is Jenolen Station some are wondering; it is the Grandest Adventure open to all Star Fleet officers since Admiral Archer left the safety of known space and Boldly ventured out where no man had gone before.
Jenolen Station is a Dyson Sphere discovered by Captain Jean Luc Piccard and his Enterprise some years ago and has been developing an exploration force since then to search as those who've begun the work call it "The Endless Sky"
If you are Interested please contact the Jenolen Station LOCARS Site for farther Information.

I think I'm interested? But the setup for this definitely challenges the normal star trek style, I think that's why people are nervous.

I see it more as a fall back to the oldest days of Star Fleet, when a ship pulled away from the last point in the Federation they were truly alone and on their own (Think "Master and Commander of the Far side of the World)
Jenolen Station is that kind of environment, once the ship is beyond the range of communication the Captain becomes the Law of the Land

I am thinking of making a more mundane Trek RP but that will need wait
