A legitimate question about racism

I'm just curious if we are allowed to use it in story as 1. a plot device and 2. as a lesson. Clearly this is a bad thing in real life, and of course be displayed as such in the writing, but I'm just curious about the limits of the fiction we write on this site. Racism is a real and nasty thing, but it has also lead to some of the greatest examples of humanity working together. Just want to check to make sure before I do anything, as I did have an idea for a character with a bit of a negative bias, but one that I would have develop so that he is able to outgrow it. EDIT: I totally understand if we can't we're trying to open and friendly here, so that heavy of a topic and the risks of it being done badly could lead to damaging the site. Why I'm asking.

In terms of a plot engine, I see it as realistic and probably achievable but it would be walking on a very thin line. We have two relevant forum-wide rules of:

• Racial/sexual/other epithets: If it's a letter-word, like the n-word, we will ban that. We also have urban dictionary, so we can look up things of this nature. So don't use a derogatory term for another racial group. ex. 'N*gger' 'K*ke' 'Gr**ser.'
• Advocacy of violence against a gender/sexuality/religion/ethnicity/etc.

IF you feel that you can manage it while fitting those two, it'd probably be borderline okay, but it would be a fine line. I'll pass it around some of the other mods and get a consensus on it though.

The consensus is that it is acceptable but it must be done tastefully and keeping aware of the people's comfort levels within the roleplay. Epithets will be allowed if they include *** to block out the majority of the letters (this is to save it from causing issues with adsense. If anyone's in doubt about a post, feel free to send it to one of us mods to check it. Basically be delicate, tasteful and careful with it. Good luck.
