I bought myself an Amazon tablet, thinking that the Amazon app store would be as comprehensive as the iTunes app store or Google Play.

Nope.

FML. This thing is being a pain in the ass. There are a few tutorials/online geekmasters that have tried to explain how to root devices to allow Google Play and other Google services. I've been able to follow some of it, but mostly I just don't have the patience/skill set to comprehend what the hell is going on.

I've been able to get a few Google related things to work, but mostly I'm still tinkering around, trying to figure out how to access certain apps, like Snapchat. Gotta send them nudes, yo.

hey, i'm not sure what you're requesting, but if you're trying to install programs that are in google play but aren't in amazon app store, you just down the .apk file for that program (search it online) and manually install it into your fire. you have to turn off a setting tho, something in your applications tab that says "don't install stuff not from amazon app store"

for instance, i wanted to install aldiko but aldiko wasn't in amazon app store, so i downloaded aldiko.apk from the internet and manually installed that. voila

Technically it's an iPhone 3 and doesn't update anymore. Apple is silly like that.

That's mostly what I've been doing, only lots of those .apk files also require Google Play Services in order to launch (since those apps are directly offered by Google Play or iTunes. The bits I have been able to get to work have been a bit finicky but I think with a few adjustments here and there (and with the help of some online tutorials), I'll be able to get a few things running that I haven't found in the amazon app store. I'm absolutely shit at tech, but I've been surprising myself by learning a few new tricks. Thanks!
