OOC IS UP!!!
Assassin Creed: A Rising Empire
Rome idea: The year’s 25bc, Rome has transitioned from a Republic into an Empire, and the land is full of war, slavery, poverty and all manner of things. Caesars heir, Augustus, is now the Emperor and it has been 17 years since the Battle of Philippi (42bc) and the destruction of the Liberatores. Augustus stands in the way of democracy and the assassins believe that he is leading Rome and its people to destruction, if not in the short run then definitely in the long run. To make things worse he is now a Templar. August has many supporters as well as Templar friends; these not only pose a threat but some are considered to simply be in need of killing. The Praetorian Guard act as the instruments of Augustus and the Templars.
The Liberatores (Liberators) were a group of senators (notably Brutus) who assassinated Julius Caesar due to fears he was growing too powerful. What was unbeknownst to most of these ‘Liberatores’ was that their leaders were in fact part of the Assassin Order, which at this point were very thinly spread. What August and his newly founded Templar allies do not yet know however is that some of the more secretive members as well as the families of the fallen have managed to survive, and have now joined under the banner of the Assassin Order. These Assassins now try to accomplish their goals through political means as well as violence, with some becoming politicians, some military, but most simply acting as common spies/assassins.
Players don’t have to be Roman, but would ideally be Roman citizens at least (live in Roman controlled lands). Players should try to keep equipment/technology as historically accurate as they can, but it’s fine for them to abuse geography a little (e.g. somehow getting hold of a Germanic Sword through some interesting background story). Players can go about the roleplay from a very political and clever angle, or you can go full metal breastplate on everything – it’s really up to you.
I have some rough plots in mind (including pieces of Eden that will be kept under wraps for now), but it would be mainly down to the players how the story progressed. I would like to keep this as historically accurate as we can (e.g. no blowing up Rome), and so there are some cases were a player may work a plot towards a certain point only for me (or one of the other GMs) inserting a really annoying twist to preserve the continuum – note that we’d probably see these happening in advance and talk to you about it.
SO! If you're interested please say! We're open to suggestions and aren't fully fixed on this story/setting/time.
