“As soon as men decide that all means are permitted to fight an evil, then their good becomes indistinguishable from the evil that they set out to destroy.”
– Christopher Dawson

An obscure and infamous organization which for the most part has its existence doubted, and often compared with the Illuminati due to such notoriety and secrecy, the Scribas Institute is a gathering of willing magicians-- whatever your definition of magician may be as some psychics, alchemists and even nonhuman beings are members, and with a few institutions scattered across Europe and America. Their objectives include training those who want to make use of their power and join, taking down or containing those who are putting or plotting to put their abilities to no good use, and keeping the existence of this volatile energy hidden so that no further evildoers may attempt to make use of magic and set their corrupt intentions in motion.

The history of the Scribas dates far back to the Middle Ages. Originally well-known and widespread, things went downhill starting with the beginning of the Crusades, and removed traces of its own existence as soon as witch hunts became widespread in Europe. From then on, the Scribas served the purpose of providing refuge for actual "witches", which were simply magicians accused of being evil simply because they were magicians.

Upon the advent of the Industrial Era, the Scribas saw a temporary surge in publicity, as the anti-witchcraft movement has since fallen out of favor. Regular recruitment programs and training sessions went up and running, but unfortunately a few decades later a Scribas high mage turned against the institution and attempted to loot all the books for his own purposes. In the years that followed since, some magicians-- a few being graduates from the Scribas, and some naturally born with magic-- began taking the path of villainy, and regrettably the Scribas lost quite a few members and suffered another impact to its reputation from civilian attacks by the renegades, to which the organization was held responsible for training them and empowering them. Ever since then, the institution has tightened its regulation on recruitment and remained in the shadows.

The Scribas is not without controversy, even among its members. Its imprisonment of suspected plotters, even without a psychic to prove so, has drawn suspicion from those aware of the organization's existence and activities. Dangerous experiments have often been attempted, and some resulted in unpleasant results. The institution's disreputable side is questionable at best, and hypocritical at worst.

Basically an RP involving the Magical Illuminati and its members. RPers can contribute some villains every now and then, which, aside from scandals and other similar occasions, will regularly create conflict in the story. At some point a major plot will probably be put in motion that will set the story in full swing, although that is still a plan yet to be developed and decided whether to be implemented or not. The setting will change accordingly, with the main location being the main quarters in Scotland on the fictitious town of Alchorhill, where the trainees that opt to study here are transported to if they're not residents of the town itself. There's a bit of a school theme here in the form of training, although the "students", or trainees, are more mature.

When the tags mean Advanced (or High-Casual if you prefer), the RP will still go light on writing lengths, although decent grammar and spelling is expected. A few slips are okay, however, and I won't push you to go full Charles Dickens. Character personalities are encouraged to be realistic and developed. If you're going to make your character childish, play it as if they're actually childish with a reason behind it, not as an excuse to put it as a weakness to make him/her overpowered or not just plain old and boring childish. Same for insane, idiotic, and the like. Everything else is free, so whether you make your character look realistic with regular magical abilities or kawaii desu ne with Lovecraftian powers (but please keep it balanced!) is up to you. Highly cliche characters, while acceptable, is discouraged. RPers are free and highly encouraged to contribute their own ideas and make improvements to the story.

Roleplayers are expected to be loyal, but sometimes life just kicks you in the pooper. If such things happen, please announce on the OOC or talk through the PM before leaving either temporarily or permanently.

Of course! Whoever your character may be, as long as they aren't too ridiculous.

More details to follow once this has garnered enough interest.
