A Freeform Roleplay Set In A Post Apocalyptic Environment
You awake to a familiar sound.
Nothingness.
Whoever once dwelt in this ancient wasteland has long since vacated the area, leaving behind nothing but tumbled ruins and shallow graves.
It has been this way since before your father, and your father's father, and his father's father. A whole millennium of suffering, of petty struggles and of stubborn wills.
The bards sing that the ruins you walk belong to your ancestors, who in their lust for technological progress undid themselves in a whirlwind of fire.
A thousand years or more, it has taken for your kind to crawl out from under the ruins of a lost civilization.
And now the world is at your feet.
Rebuild it, or scorch it anew, in the great scheme of things it matters little.
Welcome to Norn Amrika, a vast continental wasteland of concrete ruins, fearsome beasts and black-hearted savages.
This is your home, and always has been.
But where does your story truly begin?
Player Tracker 3000
In this hider you will find out the current locations of all characters in play, and a very brief summary of what they're up to. This feature may break down and be removed if I get an influx of people and struggle to maintain it, but we'll see how it goes!

Vanilla NPCs
"They are an evil from another time, corrupted before all was torn down in the Great Burning of the World."
The Crawlers are nocturnal predators that hunt in packs. Though they lack intelligence, they have heightened senses of hearing and smell, and can track prey from miles away.
They go down easily enough, but they are quick movers and superb gymnasts - they feel no pain and fear no death. Once they've spotted you, they will hunt you to the ends of the earth unless you are cunning enough to lose them. Outrunning them is not much of an option, as they are relentless pursuers - though maybe your character is unique in this respect?
Typically, they haunt the ruins of the wasteland, hiding in dark corners and storm drains until the sun descends. If you plan on walking around at night, take plenty of ammo.
It's estimated that there are thousands of Crawlers inhabiting the Lifeless Cradle, and although some efforts have been made to curb their numbers, no faction has had much success.
Their underground lairs are said to be full of treasures - torn from the cold hands of their victims - though not many are brave or equipped enough to venture into them!
"The good died in these beings the moment they were hauled into this forsaken world. Now they wander the wastes, killing and raping their way through their pitiful lives. Each one of them killed is a victory for all that is still worth fighting for."
Bandits are a scourge of most apocalyptic settings, and Misery and Dust is no different!
Packs of feral sentient beings, be they human or otherwise, scour the wastelands in search for loot. They will kill and enslave most of those they encounter, although a smooth tongued adventurer may be able to get away with his or her life if they play their cards right.
Their equipment, skills and combat effectiveness range massively from group to group, but it is generally accepted that they crumble quickly to organized and stubborn resistance.
A typical gang of bandits is a ruthless environment in which to exist. For these kinds of organizations, strength is everything, and only the most brutal, ruthless killers will take and keep their place as the top dog within the gang.
Not many bandits make it to old age, and those who do are often considered legends of the wasteland.
After the Crawlers, they are an obstacle that will need to be removed if Norn Amrika is ever to thrive.

Make as many characters as you want, but for now I'm only going to allow 1 faction per player.
Please await my approval before contributing to the RP.
Name: Race: Custom races allowed. This is freeform, live your fantasy. Race Description: If not vanilla human. Age: Gender: If applicable. Physical Appearance:
Combat Skills: Experienced shooter? Traveled martial artist? Honed tactician? Anything combat related. Armour: What's it made out of? And what does it offer protection against? i.e, chainmail is great against slicing weapons, kevlar vests against guns, force-fields against everything. Weapon/s: List all weapons and their capabilities. Steal real-world guns if you so wish.
Passive Skills: Good with pre-disaster tech? Deft pick pocket? Sneaking ninja? Anything that is not directly related to making someone dead. Special Abilities: Cybernetic implants? Psionic powers? List everything that your character has that is considered a special and unique power that the average member of their race wouldn't have access to.
Background: I'm not a fan of predetermining your character's origin for all to see before we've even started playing, but I respect that many people here like them. Therefore, this is optional.
Starting Zone: Choose settlement, or put "Wasteland" if you wish to start somewhere not on the map - though give a vague description of its location for everyone's benefit.
Competence Check: Answer with one paragraph, the following:
Your character has become cornered by a feral wolf, and is forced to confront it. How would they deal with the animal?
Please await my approval before contributing to the RP.
Faction Banner: Preferably a picture, but text-based description will suffice :)
Faction Name: Faction Race: If it accepts all races, then put "Multi". Age: How long has the faction been around for? Faction Population: Faction Tech Level: Briefly describe the level of tech your faction enjoys, whether they're a BOS clone reveling in laser weapons and power armor, or whether they're a group of spear-wielding savages. This will be used against you if you start stepping outside your faction's capabilities at a later date, so be warned.
Faction Leader: Faction's Agenda: Briefly summarise your faction's goals. What are they trying to accomplish? Security? Regional domination? Trade prosperity? Faction History: Outline your faction's history, from its founding to the present day.
Faction Armaments: How many soldiers? How many vehicles? (if any?), and some descriptions of their appearance and weapons - for the benefit of other players. Faction Resources: Anything your faction can use to trade. Normally these items will be in abundance, such as crops or cattle, or medicine. This might make it easier for other player factions to stage a "first contact" scenario with yours - you may have something they do not. Faction Territory: Where is your faction based? How much of the area does it lay claim to? I will update the maps to reflect this.
Competence Check: Answer with one paragraph, the following:
Another player has decided that their faction has beef with your faction, and promptly attacks your territory without warning. Furthermore, in their post, they state that your faction suffers a significant defeat or setback. They have done this without contacting you first.
How would you handle this age-old dilema?
Please await my approval before contributing to the RP.
Name: Physical Description: Geographical Location: Nature: Aggressive? Nocturnal? Borrows into the ground? Lives in a tree? Eats meat? Hunt in packs? Solitary predator? All that gibberish, just so the players know what they're dealing with. Combat Abilities: How does it kill its prey?
Rules
1) Respect other players at all times, and take steps to ensure you don't actively wreck their experience. 2) Dream weave! So long as what you do or plan does not negatively impact another player's experience, then the sky is the limit! 3) Consult myself, or my deputies, if you feel a player has done something that breaks the above two rules. Make clear what your argument is, and conduct it in a calm and rational manner. I will take care of it from there, and post my verdict on the OOC. If my verdict is not respected, then you know where the door is!

Aww man I see Fallout 4 inspired many RPs, just likr Mad Max did to me. Interested, but I have afew questions. Sounds great!
I'd be lying if I said Fallout 4 hasn't had a hand in any of this, because it has. However, I've been with that franchise since 97' and after a while the fandom gets tiring, so I thought I'd do something a little different.
I imagine your questions will concern the very vague lore that I've made, and yes, it's vague for a reason. Initially I had a plot laid in concrete concerning an end of the world event that was born out of a science experiment gone horribly wrong, but then the more I built the RP up, the less fun it started to look.
Instead I hacked it all away, and thought "Ya know what? I bet these people would enjoy things if they were a lot more free form", and boom, here we are.
Now I want to see if anyone is going to try and create a faction/character (a robot maybe?) with pre-disaster roots before I make any official confirmation on what happened to leave the world in its ruined state - if no one does, then no one knows what happened. There's only rumors, embellished words passed down through the generations and no doubt some clues amongst the rubble. Otherwise though, it's all one big mystery made irrelevant by the daily struggles of surviving in a half-dead world.
Your other questions might concern the kind of tech we're looking at. I didn't want to box people in here either; if they want laser guns and Brotherhood of Bill power armour, that's going to be fine. If they want laser-sharpened samurai swords and magnetic forcefields, that too is fine.
Alternatively, if they want to play as a 21st century type survivalist with a good ole fashioned shotgun and a hefty beard, then that's cool too. I wouldn't even bat an eye if I saw some knight in shining armour galloping across the plains - I'm sure that could be worked in.
What we can be sure of though, is that the civilization that inhabited the wastelands was fairly advanced before it collapsed.
This is above all a free form experience, set in the sandbox of a post apocalyptic world that I have visually crafted. Everything is up for sale as it stands.
Anyways, I've got to turn in for the night, but if anyone has any questions, please make them known and I'll answer them the best I can when I get back on here tomorrow. Looking at the interest we've got so far, the thing will more than likely go live within the next 24-48 hours depending on any outstanding issues that may hold us up.
@Frengo maybe the person/robot/faction thing that knows what happened could be an npc. I think I can work out a storyline for it and pm it to you if you want.
@Frengo You are, to simply put, amazing. You just blew my minf, so I have no other questions. Wait, actually one more. If I make a robot character (cause been craving for such RP for a while now) , what is their reputation. Or are they synths no one knows about?
As for a Faction I was thinking of something like a cult-ish kind of group, that have been around since the beginning of the end. Starting out before the worlds destruction that turned everything to ruin there was a corporation made up of scientists, researchers, doctors, and businessmen who prepped for what they assumed would be the end of the world.
The corporation started 'Project Infinite'. The project was away to help the human race flourish if ever there was a apocalypse kind of scenario. The gave people the option of donating their sperm/eggs for rations/money/idk, and also the privilege of being interviewed for one of the limited spots in cryogenic freeze. This was all done as a way to preserve the human race, and prevent inbreeding among the predicted low percent of human survivors if ever a plague/nuclear/natural/war/alien disaster decimated the population of earth. A huge amount of men and women over 18 donated. And the sperm/eggs/embryos were sent to the station/vaults/safehouses/bunkers. The 1000 or so spots available for people to volunteerly go into cryogenic freeze also filled up quickly as the end of the world became more apparent.
They also had 'Project Verity'. They wanted a way to keep and record history, and knowledge, without the use of the internet, or electronics that could be destroyed or never work again. And they didn't want to use paper/ink/books, as in the end of the world scenario paper would be a commodity and something to burn for warmth. Sadly this project didn't get any farther then the collection and storage of written/printed information. They created a library of knowledge, that they had stored in their station/vault/safehouses/bunker.
Anyway the end came, and the corporation was lost, only a handful of the original scientist/doctors/blah that made up the corp survived. The corruption/greed/madness took over from the fallout, and all seemed forgotten. A decade later the last two living people who where apart of the corporation were Alexandra Galloway & Ralph Kross. They started what is now known as a faction called Asclepius. Every few years they would let one or two people out of CyroFreeze. Asclepius became more of a cult, with Alexandra and Ralph the leaders. They kept the knowledge for themselves, and only shared what they need to get people to believe and follow them. Decades pasted, and more people joined Asclepius. Ralph died of old age, and Alexandra took over grooming her own son, Jonah to take over after she died. With Ralph dead, Alexandra opened the door to the hidden knowledge, albeit she kept a tight reign on what info. She trained her people in the lost knowledge of medicine, science, agriculture, humanitarianism, and other languages. Things such as history, culture, wars, philosophy, and religion she kept guarded and hidden away, as she wanted to create her own utopia, she created her own religion, rules, laws, code of ethics, and morals.
Its been centuries? since then, and Asclepius has become one of the biggest and well known of the factions, taking up an entire town/city as their territory. They are devote, and practically all adults are trained as ether a doctors, surgeons, scientist, adept farmer, teachers, or priest(Keeper).
blah blah.... I have more and can go on, but what do you think? Would this work for a faction? /
@AbysmalDemon I'd rather the players took on a pre-disaster rooted faction, because if I make one then suddenly what I've said becomes lore and the freeform starts becoming less free. Instead, I think it would be cool to see how many go for one, what their ideas are, and then see if we can somehow merge their histories together to create a clearer picture of what happened to the world.
Emma's planned faction points to the fact that the disaster was seen coming from a mile off, and people had time and resources to prepare for it. That's a good start! Whether it was a war, some super virus, a cataclysmic event or otherwise is still on the table.
@6slyboy6 The reputation of robotic characters will be decided solely by those they will be interacting with - in this case, it will be the other players.
If someone makes a faction or character who has a specific bias against them, then you'll have yourself some conflict. If they don't, then it's likely that robotic beings are generally accepted and you can go around doing whatever you want without worrying about upsetting the local robot racists.
Although bandits and crawlers will still very much hate them, because they hate everyone.
@Emma I like the sounds of it all so far, it definitely fits well within the spirit of the RP! As mentioned, it also shines a bit of light on what happened to the world, and will give others a base line to jump off of - should they so choose.
Right, we're looking pretty good here. I'm going to create the OOC, and will post a link here when it's done.
Oh and one question. Will we band together, or kinda roam for ourselves? Because my experience with not banding up is bad. Just asking your ideas.
Initially, it's up to you, although no one will be forced to group up if they don't want to. I think there's probably a few players who like to live a more solitary character life.
However, if we end up with twelve different robot ninjas wandering around miles apart and doing nothing but NPC interaction, then don't worry, I will quickly go from Game Master to Dungeon Master and give you guys a damn fine excuse to get a little more intimate.
If you're worried about this dying because "nothing happened and there was no story", then you can stop worrying. If this dies it'll be because a rival RP offers more blackjack and hookers than me.

Lol. I usually see that an RP dies because people lose interest. And if you want something to boot up, then you usually end up losing your players before the ection even begins. Crap now I sound miserable.
