I've made my own tabletop system and we recently lost one player, but we're still going. Respond here.

Could still use another player, preferably if someone may consider playing a party healer?

I was just looking at Roll20 a few hours ago. I was hoping to find a map/marker system online that I could use for an RP Idea I had.

Got the idea for that type of RP while watching this:

@TheUnknowable Um... not sure I follow, sorry. Do you want to join my RP? Or are you asking to use my system in one of your own? Also, not sure this constitutes needing a repeat post in my OOC.

sorry, the int check said to respond there instead of here.

I was actually going to ask you about this system, though I only saw a few episodes of Digimon so I can't join. I guess I should PM you about it instead.

@TheUnknowable It doesn't necessarily require a lot of prior knowledge to play (and the setting of my RP doesn't require and specific knowledge of any one season/series of Digimon. That, and if I want to introduce something, I'll have to introduce it to the human characters like they're completely new concepts, so anyone who doesn't know will be caught up), or at least, I'd hope so. In fact, I don't think one of my players has really ever seen Digimon. All you need to know is the basic concepts, which I think are reviewed in the ruleset as well. Yes, a PM may have been more prudent, or perhaps a foreword to your message in the OOC, but anyway, that's fine.
What did you want to know? I'm happy to explain.

I was really just interested in how the system works. I'm watching something they do with Maptool and voice chat. I was hoping for something that was more like a titanpad, but with a map and location markers. I can't do voice chat though (only an integrated microphone), and am not sure how much I can do at a time. I guess it would be hard to do one that people could join for brief periods of time whenever they had a chance.
I could have a co-gm and just drag along PCs that aren't online, but that would be a bit weird. I'm just not sure what kind of tool to use.

How does this RP work? Are you using it just for the map or for more stuff? Do you just play on there and then write what happens on here?

I'm just using Roll20 for dice rolls. I'll keep track of the map myself, and due to the system's nature of being relative-distance combat, instead of a grid based combat, a combat map is a bit less needed.
So, you were just asking about Roll20 and not my rp specifically? And for the record, you can join if you want.

Ok, that makes sense. I'm in another one with dice rolls (we just use a generic dice rolling website), but it's not nearly as complex looking as this system. Also, I don't understand half of the stuff on the digimon CS.

I just like to be able to have the rolls available to be seen, ya know? For authenticity's sake.
Yeah, it's a bit of a bear. But, ask me whatever you need to know. I can either explain it myself or direct you to a portion of the document where it's explained.

Can it automatically do the math from the character stats? I saw a video on it where you had to do a command to roll, but do you know if you can tie the two together?

The two reasons I can't really get into tabletop style RPs is:
1) I can't guarantee that I'll have uninterrupted time to do the RP with others.
2) I don't want to have to do the math every time. It seems to be mindnumbingly repetitive.

I'm trying to start my RP in the Advanced section, but I've got to create my own system so I don't have to do a lot of math.

I think there might be a way on Roll20, Like you can make characters and pin stats to them and like have their damage show and stuff. Not sure about bonus modifiers or whatnot.

1. My group is post in the IC basically whenever, as opposed to dedicated sessions.
2. Not sure what math you mean exactly, but you can just write down your bonuses next to each stat if you want, and those bonuses only change when the stat's divisible be 5. And as the GM I'll be giving damage reports, so it's a bit more on me.

Advanced section doesn't require systems. Your system seems decent enough. Like, if it's a simple do you pass or fail thing, then just judge how good the action was. If you want variance, just allow players to assess their stats with, say, a range of minus two to plus two.

The system is just to add a bit of randomness, so that we don't have people going through swarms of enemies with impunity. Most of the time in Advanced I don't use them, but for this I want one.

I was thinking of having them add a number of points (say 20) to either skills or stats. Basically, if you are a physically strong character, you get 15 to stats, 5 to skills. A more cerebral person would get 15 to skills, 5 to stats. A balanced person would get 10 to each. Each point to a skill adds +1 to any roll with it, and every 5 points in a skill adds one to the number of dice rolled too.

I feel like that's more complex than it needs to be, being that you have a wisdom stat or whatnot.

If you're worried about math and such, then doing a point distribution and having separate indicators between skills/stats just makes it more complex, and has more things that are needed to be done.

I guess I could go with a skill list instead, and just gauge them based on the character. Thanks for pointing that out. Normally I wouldn't mind math (I took two semesters of calculus), but repetitive identical math problems are boring.

Ah, true true. Then just let your players know it's a range-of-success that requires GM approval.
