The city of Theratin seems to almost glow with the sun in the sky. People are constantly running back and forth between buildings selling, buying and stealing. The guards stand and chat with each other and passing citizens. All in all, Theratin feels like a home to many. But only a few miles north an army has gathered. This army is filled with creatures who may have once been Dark Elves. Now though, they are mutated and disgusting. Their eyes are too big for their heads, their arms are the size of tree trunks and they can only speak in hisses and grunts. Whatever has happened to them, it seems to be urging them to fight. Today, they begin their march. However, no one will be ready when they arrive. For they arrive much quicker than anyone could have anticipated.

Marcus marches his way out of the castle. Down the glittering halls, through the large arching doorways and finally out onto the street. He had to find a way to rally citizens as he was going to need protection fr himself and the king on this journey. He began to shout as loud as he could. "Anyone interested in a job with the royal guard come to the main square when the sun falls behind the main castle tower! High pay is offered as well as the possibility of great jewels weapons and armor!" He walked all around town shouting this at the top of his lungs. He hoped to draw a big enough crowd that he would find at least several people capable of handling themselves. When finally the hour was at hand, he walked to the central courtyard to await the arrival of candidates. He wasn't waiting long however before they began to arrive. "Citizens, while you may have heard of this Dark Elf threat, I assure you we are doing what we can. In the mean time we are requesting those from all races to please join us in the fight against them. I will personally take you on a journey to train and grow until we can finally return and assist our comrades in taking down this threat to our way of life. If any of you are interested, you will receive one thousand gold immediately as well as be allowed to keep whatever you find along our way. Please form a straight line in front of the castle doors to be measured, fitted with the best armor we have, given a strong weapon of your choice, and then you will be brought to me for further instruction. Thank you." Marcus swiftly tuned and began to walk toward the castle hoping that some would follow.

John stood in small room within the castle which was decorated with red, plush sofas, and paintings of the royal family. He had been lead here by a guard and was now waiting for an audience with the king. If the king ever got up and chose to speak with him. He paced the room, going over the speech in his mine. He had been sent by his father, the current leader of the Doredenn clan, to make peace with the King of Theratin. A few weeks prior, an group of Elven scouts had killed a group of Theratin knights who had unwittingly trespassed on their land. Talk of war had been slight, but it was enough to throw Elrand Riverheart into a worried frenzy. As John paced the room he heard footsteps come towards the door. A short man with choppy, brown hair stepped in and said, "The king will see you now," and walked off, expecting John to follow him. John strode after the man, grateful that soon the talk of war would be silenced.

Xukhezur had only recently arrived to the city as an otherworldy explorer from the planet of Toril, in service to the imaskari enclaves and operating from the one located just south of the Lorosfyr. Members of the explorer's council of diviners and seers had scouted this planet from afar, and eventually utilized the enclave's primary batrachi portal terminal to transport him to one of its isolated regions high in the mountains. It was from there that he had scouted the area utilizing his optic orb homunculi, and had flown near the city of Theratin within "Shroud", his shadowy draconic gloom effigy mecha, on its two pairs of wings.

His optic orbs appeared as dull mottled metallic spheres, each measuring one inch in diameter and covered in a multitude of miniscule recessed mox gems. Each of them maneuvered quickly and quietly about by manipulating its aura of artifical gravity. While their magical capabilities enabled them to remain invisible when not engaging an enemy, they also possessed a number of sensory abilities, which made them ideal for scouting and mapping the surrounding area. Meanwhile, "Shroud" appeared as a well built figure covered in ink black scales with a hairless, eyeless head featuring a long wicked slip of a mouth filled with black teeth, which it typically kept shut. Its hands and feet featured wicked talons. Its two pairs of draconic wings possessed a wingspan twice as broad as it is tall, although it appeared this being's actual height and bearing were somewhat variable. Nearby shadows and darkness seemed to cloy and deepen around it, making it appear almost wraith-like at times.

As he now approached the city from the east on foot, his optic orbs used the mind link they shared between them to informed him of a nearby patrol. Xukhezur smoothly and telepathically bade his effigy to hide itself in a nearby copse of trees and underbrush. His effigy immediately slunk into the trees and bushes to hide and wait for further instruction. Still about two mlies from the city walls, Xukhezur strode onward, donned in his unremarkable gray hooded cloak, worn over the protomorphic jump suit he had conjured earlier, which in turn was worn over the dark fabrics of his normal attire, which consisted of an undershirt, breeches, with knee high boots, fingerless leather gloves and a pocketed nightscale utility belt. He stood about three inches over six feet tall, with pale gray hairless skin, glossy black eyes, and a broad muscular build. Thus he prepared himself to be intercepted with apprehension, when the time came.
