For years the small island of Bahrain has been the home to what is for all intents and purposes a sectarian dictatorship. The Sunni royal family, underpinned by Sunni elites have long lorded over the Shia majority population of the island. To offset the higher birthrate of the Shia in Bahrain the government has ‘imported’ Sunni families from Jordan, Pakistan, Yemen and Palestine among others to offset demographics, and for the men to staff the security forces. In 2011 this reached new heights with the Bahraini uprising being crushed with the help of Saudi and Emirati security forces. But that was seven years ago.
The year is 2018, and developments have occurred in the region since then. The Islamic State has effectively been done with, after the Iraqi Army and the PMU took Mosul in May 2017 and the Syrian Army followed into Raqqa in August. Together with a peace deal in Yemen, it allowed Iran to shift its attention to a new front: Bahrain. The amount of weapons and explosives being smuggled in increased rapidly and a number of Bahraini citizens were trained abroad to lead an open revolt. In the summer of 2018, the time had come.

Hello and thanks for reading that boring intro. In this RP we will go ahead in time a bit and play some off-the-wall scenario about a foreign-sponsored coup in Bahrain. We’ll be playing mainly as Bahraini revolutionary fighters trying to overthrow the monarchy, and their Iranian handlers. We'll begin just before the revolt. Dealing with the setup, making an introductory post (perhaps multiple), and organising the uprising. The Hezbollah of Bahrain (not affiliated to the Lebanese group) will take the lead, and Iranians take the role of smugglers, scroungers, and contacts.
Seems fun but I don’t know the first fucking thing about Bahrain, Iran, or whatever about the sandbox.
But I do. If you have questions about the setting, equipment used, history, roles, and maybe even religion, I’m your man. Please, don’t let the setting put you off. That’s aesthetics. Window-shopping. Focus on the premise of the RP and the game element.
Whoop dee doo, down with the man. Is that game element even slightly interesting?
Yeah, I hope so. I was planning on making it a bit of a game, too (of course the focus is on the chars.) Depending on where the rebels strike and where they face the army, control of various areas in the country will change. I’ll keep track of that. If you want to push somewhere, shoot me a PM and I’ll take the order into account.
So, any takers?
