Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with sleep paralysis. No, not because I'm writing a paper for Psych 101, but because I get it once in a blue moon and I really hate it. I don't think I have it as bad as the experiences I've read about, but there's something so frightening about not being able to move when you're conscious. It's like your mind becomes your worst enemy, making you panic and hallucinate. That's what I hate the most, the visions and the sounds. I hear footsteps when I KNOW everyone else is asleep. I hear someone else's heavy breathing. Then there is this black figure, like a solid shadow that paces around the bed. So far that has been the worst of it. For some reason I can still move my eyes and eyelids, and so whenever I am aware that I'm under sleep paralysis, I keep them closed in fear of what I might see. I can still hear the foot steps and breathing, but that's it.

Anyone else going through this?

I've experienced this once or twice, felt like I couldn't fucking breath at all and I couldn't move a muscle.

No hallucinations, thankfully. No scary shit like that.

If you are writing a paper about it, best thing to do would be to pour your own experience into it. That's the way to get an A.

I've had several experiences with it. The best way to counter it is to slowly regain control of your body starting with your fingers or toes. Several folk I know also say that sleeping with certain kinds of music such as binary beats or classical music tend to be helpful in these type of scenarios. Best of luck to you!

I had them on a weekly basis when I was a child, sometimes multiple times in night, and scarcely in the past few years. When it felt like I woke up, I would go back to sleep.
