Fire. A very odd, yet welcoming thing when placed into specific situations. For people, it was a sign of comfort, warmth, an illumination to a perpetually dark world. Fire could bring people together in times of fear and loneliness, though in large amounts, the bestial instinct in all beings to run from fire would emerge. And thankfully, it was one of those times.

The fire began to spread at an alarming rate, though Ivallyn was happy that she was in the company of others that knew how to keep their “cool”. Ivallyn chuckled inwardly and made a mental note to remember that joke whenever they were in a better position to break the ice after everyone had calmed down. Another silent chuckle unnoticed, Ivallyn saw that people were already doing their part to escape the raging fire trap they now currently found themselves awkwardly placed in. Thanks to Vexia’s quick movements, everyone would have time to react and escape, allowing Ivallyn to do her part as well, as little was it was. Channeling inward, she began to form sygils in the air with her index and middle finger, swiftly swaying her hand in concentrated movements, allowing her spell to form.

A gust of wind came through the now opened door, thanks to Vincent’s wand work, allowing Ivallyn form the wind to keep the smoke at a higher elevation from their vision, as not to blind anyone anymore than they may have already been as they began to flee the scene. Atlas had already taken the priestess into his care and was outside the doorway, beckoning them into the open air. Once outside, she began to scan around. Where were the guards when the man made his way into the temple, and better yet, why had no one noticed him in general. Surely a man with a blade held in hand walking around, especially one not known to others in the coven or in the least her, would have been stopped and asked questions. Ivallyn felt a wave of unease as she stood there; normally she would be trying to get to higher ground to see more of her surroundings and possibly see if she could spot something suspicious, but she knew that would have to wait until the others had exited the coming inferno.
Sorry for the delay, I've been somewhat lazy past the events of Saturday (friends from another state wanted me to play some games with them online, and I can't really say no when I haven't seem them in 6 months) but I am getting a response up now, though it will probably be shorter than I usually like to write out. Gotta get past those initial plot steps. D:<

Sorry I wasn't there, one of our cats got sick and I had to calm a very overly-attached family member down over it possibly passing. (Odd, I know, don't ask.) Glad to see work get done though, I'll post something soon.

Interests: Having lived a good portion of her life in the wilds, having independence and the right to hunt on her own terms are usually at the top her her list of "things needed to survive". She enjoys the time she can spend in the wildwoods, enveloping herself with the woodland and its creatures that inhabit it, studying them and learning their ways. In her spare time, she helps out in the kitchens of Castle Moonshearth, honing her skills as a cook that her mother passed on to her, however few they might have been. Taking care of her crow friends, especially the one she named Bran, is always a fun past time for her as well.

Skills:

  • Murderous Foresight: Ivallyn's play on words when it comes to this type of spell, one taught to her by her father once she had an understanding on how to convey and respect Magic as it was presented. The spell itself is not a complex one to initially cast: a fresh feather from the bird, lines of incantation to solidify the connection with the bird, and finally the burning of the feather. Once the feather is set ablaze, a connection is forged, linking the caster and the bird, swapping spirit and soul to the bird's body and the spirit to the caster's. This spell has been passed through her bloodline for generations, much like that of a right of passage to be accepted as a part of the family.

    During this time, the caster will have full control over the bird in which it highly useful for scouting missions and surveillance, though it takes time to learn how to approach flight and maintain connection without having their mind float to random thoughts, and in return the bird will have control over the body of the caster. Traditionally, the caster will have themselves bound to the ground or some structure to have a focal point for the spell and to keep the body from having "misadventures" as the caster is no longer in control of that part of themselves.

    Downsides to this type of spell are numerous, though the benefits can potentially outweigh the negative. Doing this spell will leave the body of the caster at the mercy of anything and/or anyone that happens to come upon them, should the caster distance themselves too far from their original body or stay in the bird's body for too long the link between them could become corrupt and weak, leaving them both trapped in opposite bodies permanently. The same could happen if either body is killed, the other spirit will be trapped in the other's body with no way to recover the previous spirit (and soul should it be the caster who dies) to the rightful body.

  • Other Spells: Ivallyn's time in the wild and flying with her crow's body has altered the way she sees the world, and as such has formed her fighting style when it comes to utilizing Magic. Ivallyn tend to lean towards using the wind to assist her, sometimes using a small breeze to help her keep downwind of her prey or using wind in a very small bursts to push and in some instances, cut her opposition. She is able to channel the energy via swift though vivid sygil formations in the air, tracing them with her index and middle fingers.

  • Side Info: As a Hunter, Ivallyn is also experienced in Fletchery and Archery (her preferred weapon when hunting or otherwise).


Personality: At a young age, Ivallyn was child that would go out of her way to help others even when it intruded on something that she was currently involved in, and despite how dark the would could be at times, she kept part of that child-like persona into her adult years. Ivallyn can be very lighthearted at times, and while his might seem troublesome and dangerous at times, she doesn't see as much evil in people as others might, trying to want the best out of each person she comes across. She is not however an idiot, and knows when someone is trying to play her for a fool or take advantage of her carefree soul. She will easily respond in kind, as you don't cross a crow, as more tend to appear and it often becomes a murder.

Biography: Ivallyn's mother and father roamed the wildlands many months before her birth, searching for a place in which to build a cabin to birth the coming child in which her mother bore. Her father was more than she could honestly say he was, a strong and truthful man with enough love to drive a family to the ends and back with just a word. Her mother was a kind woman, always cheerful seemed wiser beyond her capacity. They found an area in which to build and within a few weeks had crafted a very sturdy and dependable structure in which to bring their child into the world, and not a moment too soon. Hours after the last wall had been set, Ivallyn's mother went into labor.

As Ivallyn grew in age, she was taken to the cabin more frequently by her father to learn how to be a fletcher and the art of archery. Her father was not a well known hunter, though his skill seemed to grow each time he set out to find game. From an early age, Ivallyn grew to enjoy the outside world more than being inside of the Castle whenever her mother would bring her to the kitchens to learn how to cook. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her mother, but she enjoyed the air and the free roaming capabilities that presented themselves to her whenever she was out with her father.

As she began to come of age, her father saw it as time to teach her the bloodright of her family, the vision. Others had been able to replicate this spell, though it seemed to come naturally to their family, he explained. Over nights of preparation and trials, Ivallyn was finally able to connect to one of the crows that her father had raised to keep them company in the wooded area. The connection was brief and weak, but being able to connect and swap for even a moment made Ivallyn study harder to impress her father.

Ivallyn learned the backlash of the spell first hand, however, as one night that she and her father were resting overnight in the cabin, her father awoke to a loud sound in the distance. Not taking the time to put in safety measures (tying oneself to the cabin floor via ropes or a chain) he hastily performed the ritual and swapped with a crow. Taking flight into the night, he began to survey the surrounding area to find the source of the sound. The sound had come from a passing hunter in the area, and not knowing of the swap, shot down the raven mid-flight, killing the bird and ultimately, Ivallyn's father. Ivallyn awoke to her father screaming out, though she knew not it as the crow at the time, thrashing and destroying the cabin inside. Ivallyn was barely able to escape the crow-infested body of her father, and began the solitary march back to the castle to get help.

When she arrived, she explained what had happened and what she remembered to the guard on duty, and a party was sent out to find her father. They returned a day or so later with her "father", lost and void of all being. Her mother cried for days on end at the loss of her husband, they ended the remaining life that inhabited his body and burned him as per her mother's request. Her mother followed her father into the afterlife just months afterwards, having lost her will to live. Since that day, Ivallyn held no ill will towards the hunter (whom she never found) nor the crows in which her father kept. The effects were quite the opposite, she sees the crows as a keepsake of her father's memory, and still hunts to try to become more than her father was in terms of agility and expertise.

Ichthys said If you even wanted to go a step farther, you can have the spell exchange the raven's spirit for the caster's soul and spirit, meaning that while the spell is in effect, the raven has control of the caster's body, although it can't stop the spell because the raven-inside-the-caster still has no soul to do so.


I was thinking of doing that actually, as without a spirit for a body I would see it as an empty shell, much like that of a corpse and I'd rather not consider my character being a corpse while another body has the potential of two beings in another.

@Milieu: That's one reason I put the distance stipulation onto the ability, as I was and to an extent still am a huge Animorph fan. It's kind of where I originally drew inspiration for the character's ability, outside of them possibly being an Animage which I didn't want to do (didn't seem as "fun"). I like having downsides to abilities, it keeps them more vulnerable and more "human" as it were.
@Ichthys I initially saw the Sight-Spell as being a long casting time as it isn't much of a combat ability and I don't see it being useful during a fight leaving the Caster vulnerable to anything and everything in the open area. And I would be more than willing to have the consequences of loss of control of my character or worse (death) as I had planned to have something of that manner to be in their back story to show how dangerous it really is as a Spell; if I tried to do this spell in sketchy times, I'm just asking for character to die anyhow. Perhaps to balance it out a bit more, the raven is unable to go outside of a certain distance from the Caster, otherwise the link could be compromised and trap the Caster inside of the raven; seeing how the body is being used to channel the spell, the further away from them, the weaker the control and connection could become.
I want to join this Roleplay, as there seems to be a lot of possibilities in terms of development, but I have a question that pertains to a character I am thinking of writing out. Are we allowed to have a Familiar type of pet with us if it has synergy with our backstory/skills? For example, I am leaning towards having a Raven as a Familiar and having the ability to see through its eyes for scouting and information gathering using a channeling spell (leaving the host body, i.e. my character, vulnerable during its casting) while also revolving around using spells that center around moving air with force. I don't plan to have the Raven be special in any way, other than it being more or less a pet that my character is attached to emotionally and as a medium for her Sight-Spell.

I have other ideas for characters so if this idea is a bit stretched in terms of what is allowed in the Roleplay I won't be hurt by it, but I'd rather ask to see if this is more allowed before spending time better spent on another character spread.
This seems to be a very interesting Roleplay, I'll have to keep my eye out for it. Are you going to be looking for Players to be signing up for Coven positions, or more of a foot soldier-esque kind of role? Also, are you going to keep the Magic possibilities to a more narrow approach(Kind of like "Healing/Offensive/Defensive" varieties), or are you going to let the Players kind of flesh out the options with a broad generalization with what would be acceptable without stepping out of bounds (More of like Elemental/Necromancy/Curses/etc)?
