I hope he does come back, or this game does take off, because I have a CS here I want to use.
Name: Jack Larson
Known Aliases: Jack Lantern
Age: 34
Appearance: Mr. Larson stands at 5'11", and weighs 176 pounds. His hair is jet black, and his skin is a pale white, with deep shadows around his eyes. He keeps his hair and beard well groomed, and even though his body seems healthy, he gives off the appearance and aura that he's always two steps away from death. According to his records, he was born with brown eyes, but his eyes currently are emerald green, and seem to glow in low light.
Psyche Profile: Mr. Larson displays strong asocial tendencies, preferring to remain in his cell or on his own. When in the exercise yard, he complains that he would rather be in his cell. During meals, he sits alone, eats quickly, and demands to be taken back to his cell. And when in his cell, he doesn't speak to the guards or anyone else, and is always absorbed in his writing.
Mr. Larson is impatient, and displays an intense desire to continue his work. He will freely share that he is using his cell time to further his research in the hopes that it will save his wife and daughter, but believes that others are not intelligent enough to understand the intricacies of his research. Aside from his obsession over his work, Mr. Larson also is quite egocentric, displaying a grandiose delusion of his own importance, stemming from his genius intellect.
All guards assigned to Mr. Larson must pass a mandatory psyche evaluation to ensure they don't try to unnecessarily engage with him, as Jack can be infuriated by his work being gravely interrupted. Another prisoner kept him from his cell, and this caused Mr. Larson to have a violent outburst, which resulted in the other prisoner having his arm dislocated and his jawbone shattered before Mr. Larson could be restrained.
Background: Grief is powerful. It can freeze a person where they are for years, or drive them deep into the realms of madness. It's both a limiter and a motivator. And all this is especially true for Jack Larson.
Mr. Larson was born to Jacob and Bethany Larson, and was the second of three siblings. From a young age, Jack Larson exhibited a mechanical brilliance the likes of which impressed both his family and his teachers in elementary school. When he was ten, his father had found him tinkering with the family vehicle. He had been annoyed at the noise the engine made during family drives, and had "fixed" it, successfully upgrading the engine so that it ran more silently.
His school life had earned him nothing but praise from teachers, many of whom touted him as the finest and most brilliant student their school had ever seen. He was quickly enrolled in AP classes during highschool, and graduated as the valedictorian.
This was despite one incident in which three other students had lured him out to the bleachers, having stolen one of his notebooks. The exact details of the resulting altercation are unknown, but one student had been knocked unconscious and put into a coma, another had been made unable to ingest solid foods, and a third just refused to speak about the incident. According to Jack, they had threatened him with bodily harm if he didn't cooperate with their attempts to cheat on the next exam. And when he refused, a fight started. If true, the question arises as to why Jack came out of the fight without a scratch.
His childhood wasn't always good, however. After giving birth to Jack's little brother, Jack's mother fell terribly ill. Doctors diagnosed her with a chronic disease for which there was no cure, and gave her only a decade to live. And the trouble didn't stop there. Around his tenth year of high school, his older sister was killed in a traffic collision. A year later, his younger brother was killed during a break-in at the family residence. His father was gunned down two months later after trying to go after the men who killed his son. And his mother succumbed to her illness on his graduation day.
By all accounts, every death devastated Jack Larson. One account from a teacher said that Jack told her "he felt powerless to stop these tragedies, despite his brilliance." But despite his grief, he tried to carry on. After high school, he got a job at a garage to help fund his college work, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. There, he would excel the same way he did in high school, and meet his future wife, Jill.
Jack Larson once wrote that "Jill helped me keep my grip on reality during those times. My family's death broke me apart, but it was Jill who picked up the pieces, and put them back together." Jack and Jill quicky began a relationship with each other, and the humor of their names was not lost on them. It was around this time that Jack was introduced to the supernatural.
Jill, as it turned out, had been a witch. A magical being thought to only exist in fairy tales. She was descended from a long line of magic users dating back to Medieval Ireland. According to her, Jill had claimed in one of her journals that the spectre of death haunted Jack, and she wanted at first to help him, thinking her magical knowledge could help ward off the spectre. But she had been taken by Jack's confidence in his own abilities, and his wit gave him a charm no one else could muster.
The two were inevitably married, and they had one daughter by the name of Jane. After they graduated college, evidence suggests that they were very happy together. It was almost enough to help Jack move on from the past. But the past wasn't going to let go. Later journals from Jill express that she's somehow upset the spectre that haunted Jack, and she very clearly feared for her life, and the safety of her family. This all culminated in the death of her and her daughter under mysterious circumstances, in which both of them had suddenly, and without warning or cause, fallen dead.
When authorities arrested Jack Larson in questioning why his family had died, he claimed that some sort of spirit killed them. He was later released as authorities could not prove that Jack had killed them, as was the going theory at the time. After this incident, Jack stopped going to work. He spent every waking moment for the next six months in the basement of his home, and he wouldn't be seen again until the local authorities decided to evict him for not paying property taxes.
When the authorities came, a brief argument ensued. It ended when Jack retreated into his house. SWAT was called, as it was suspected that Mr. Lawson would try and create a standoff situation. Instead, Mr. Lawson returned, dressed in a custom armor that glowed with eerie lights, and whose helmet mimicked the appearance of a Jack-o'-lantern. Mr. Lawson then started a shootout with the police using a strange energy weapon which brought those killed with it back to life, and caused them to start attacking other officers.
Mr. Lawson's rampage tore through the neighborhood and eventually reached town, ordering the dead people with him to attack anyone who tried to stop him. He would shoot especially difficult opposition, and even high powered rifles seemed to have no effect on his armor. It wasn't until a young man stepped in, using magic powers to summon otherworldly creatures to help him, that the threat was ended. All of the dead people were destroyed, and Jack Larson, now calling himself Jack Lantern, was taken into custody.
Skills, Talents and Learning: Mr. Larson is an incredible technological savant. With enough time and materials, Mr. Larson can create or modify any piece of equipment, allowing it to harness the power of Necrotic energy, and use it to further his goals. Even something as simple as a car's keyfab can be modified into a device that can raise the dead.
Mr. Larson also possesses an Eidetic memory. He can remember with perfect clarity any conversation he's overheard, or any text that he has seen. He has read every piece of literature that you can find in a library, and can recite each one from memory.
Mr. Larson seems to possess the ability to know things that he shouldn't. Events he wasn't a witness to, conversations he wasn't present for, and sometimes secrets that have only been shared amongst friends. It is unknown what mechanism he possesses to discover these things.
Power(s) and Capabilities: Mr. Larson is a pioneer in two previously unknown fields of science; Necrotics, the study of energies produced and used by undead beings, and Magitech, technology that harnesses the power of magical energy. His weapons and equipment are pieces of Magitech that utilize Necrotic energies to enhance physical capabilities and add abilities to the user.
His armor is capable of not only protecting the wearer from Necrotic energy, but also gathering and storing it. Through unknown means, the armor uses Necrotic energy to strengthen the wearer's normal capabilities to superhuman levels. It is also capable of teleporting short distances, and briefly turning the wearer intangible. What's more, the armor seems capable of charging any and all Magitech devices that utilize Necrotic energy.
For weapons, Mr. Larson has created a energy projection pistol which fires Necrotic energy. Any living being caught in the blast will rapidly decay where struck, as if the part of the body that was struck had died years ago. If dead bodies are struck with this device's blasts, they will begin to move as if coming back to life. Any and all such corpses, unless otherwise directed by Mr. Larson utilizing unknown means, will immediately attack anything living in a cannibalistic nature. Any dead creature already reanimated by this weapon will be strengthened by it if shot again.
Mr. Larson also utilized small bulbous devices similar to grenades in their use. Once activated, these devices will open a portal to another plane of existence for a brief time. Any living creature getting close to these portals will decay in a similar fashion as if they've been struck by his blaster, but witnesses have reported seeing strange apparitions exiting the portals to hunt down bystanders who are too close.
Mr. Larson's final notable piece of equipment is a scythe that projects a blade made of Necrotic energy. When striking living beings or corpses, the scythe exhibits similar properties to Mr. Larson's blaster. And just like his grenades, this scythe, too, can open portals. The scythe itself can affect nonorganic material, and has been observed cutting through three feet of solid steel.
All of Mr. Larson's weapons and equipment are DNA coded to him. To date, no one has been able to use them except for him, and no one has been able to break the encryption on the code.
Power Limits: All of Mr. Larson's powers rely on his equipment. He doesn't seem to possess the ability to use Necrotic energy except through his armor and weapons. Without them, he's physically just a normal man.
Known Vulnerabilities: While Mr. Larson's weapons are shielded from electromagnetic discharges, his armor isn't. Energy surges from electricity can overload the armor's circuits, causing it to shut down or risk burning out the electronics in the armor.
Motives: Mr. Larson wants his wife and child brought back to life, but as he remembers them. To that end, he is searching for "the secret to True Resurrection."
Level: Threat level, as defined by the Borehole's parameters. I will assign this to your character.
Recommended Containment Procedures: Mr. Larson is to be kept in a standard prison cell on a normal schedule. He is allowed writing materials and stationary, but under no circumstances is he allowed near any digital technology or computers. Additionally, due to the nature of his research and his affinity for the dead, Jack is to be fed vegetarian meals, and it is considered top priority to keep him away from any situations that arise nearby that may result in death or dismemberment.
Mr. Larson's weapons, armor, and other equipment from when he was captured is to be stored in the prison armory, locked away separately from other weapons. In the event of an emergency, Mr. Larson is to be kept away from his gear by any means necessary.
Notes: In order to maintain Mr. Larson's compliance with prison personnel, Mr. Larson will be allowed to further his research into Necrotics and Magitech.
