To her absolute regret, when she looked to where Laurence came from, her gaze met with something putrid. As if a blizzard flew through her, Ava froze on the spot, unable to take her eyes of the crimson eyes that whispered into her ears. The way it moved was lucid, and it’s tentacle like limbs were abhorrent to look at, it was too much for Ava’s mind to register it all.
But there was one word that tightened her grip on reality, “Fuck!” and along with it, came a tug on the arm to which she could do nothing but follow. She tried her hardest not to look back, instead focusing on who gripped her hand. As frantic as their running was, Ava could see Alex and Hakuro clearly, and the raven wasn’t far ahead either; for however small, it reassured her to see them active and alive. Once the adrenaline kicked in, she let go of Alex as she felt like she could run past them easily, but the bird had other plans.
A single glance down into the tunnels was enough to let her take a step back. Why the bird wanted them to head into the metro tunnel was one thing, but their one guide was about to leave them alone with these monsters. If it wasn’t for the panic, she would’ve begged the raven to stay, but she could hear the moans behind her getting closer, and the metro was just as frightening; they were really in deep shit now.
...
But that wasn’t like her at all. Scary things happen all the time, and the only way to handle them is by facing them and headbutting them with all you’ve got! Ava took a deep breath, and broadened her shoulders to intimidate whatever came at her. And she wasn’t alone either, she could depend on Hakuro and Alex. Speaking of Alex, he seemed to have a plan of his own as he charged off towards some creepy balls…
“Alex!?”
She frantically stepped forward, edging her toes on the top stairs, but her legs didn’t carry her further. She looked back towards Hakuro, and back down again as she swallowed her fear. That idiot ran straight into those monsters and of course it didn’t work. He was already rolling across the floor to dodge whatever things were attacking him, but she couldn’t watch as her friend was being torn apart.
“Shit!” She screamed as she ran down towards Alex. But nary a few feet from him, she stopped dead in her tracks as Alex started shooting at them with a tommy gun? “What the!? Where did you-Eek!” With the sound of her scream, her foot kicked one of the blobs as it jumped at her leg, sending it flying into another blob.
The response that the student gave to Kiyori upon her mild outburst came over as very dejected. She knew she was in the right, but peering upon the students broken body nonetheless made her heart ache. Considering the circumstances, she was too harsh and it must have left a sour impression upon the new recruits. As she looked to her feet stepping through the mud, she made sure to remember to carry and protect the boy if he were to fall unconscious.
Not long after, the river pillar spoke and brought good news with him, they had arrived at their destination. Feeling a small amount of relief, Kiyori started to easy herself into a more relaxed state as she pondered on who the man behind the water-barrier was. Looking past the water, the figure appeared very calm, though that might have beeen a side-effect of the fish that appeared to swim through the air. Kiyori's first thought was that the barrier was a blood demon-art, but as Tamagawa drew his sword, that thought was halted as she retreated behind him. Her curiosity peaked as she looked at Tamagawa performing a breath technique and she made sure to follow his movements very closely as it might be the key to unlocking the barrier. As Tamagawa cut through the water, she had total faith in his ability; but then the rain stopped.
"What do you mean? Is this not the work of master Tamagawa?" She responded to Kuchizaki as her body started to tense up. Whatever was going on, it created a vibe of tension, causing Kiyori to start surveying her surroundings carefully, her hand hovering over her blade.
"Think about it. If this is somewhere that the organization Shingetsu calls a sanctuary, and so close to one of the pillar's estates. How could such a place exist? It couldn't, patrols would need to be done quite often to maintain security within the area." Kuchizaki noted, their tone was contained and quiet. Regardless of the large fish-globe barrier bearing before them. They were calm, unsurprised that's someone of this magnitude still existed in the world of demons.
"But if that's the case- that means. One of the demon moons?!" The student widened his eyes with fear at the distance figure sitting outside of their home. Speaking of which, the long-haired man looked out now towards the group. But rather than dissuade the barrier or greet them at all, he stood, and turned away stepping towards and eventually opening his door to walk inside shutting it behind him.
"What the hell? I have an invitation you fuck! Let me in! Don't waste my precious time! I'll cut this stupid magic away!" Tamagawa grunted and flashed his teeth in outrage. Breaking from his refines form, he charged towards the aqua barrier - slashing at the liquid with incredible speed. But to no avail, the water absorbed the shockwave and easily mended the wound that was created.
The rest of the group watched as Tamagawa lost his shit, including Kiyori, who had walked towards the barrier a few feet away from her master. flickering her attention between the cabin up ahead and her frantic companion, she slowly stuck her arm into the barrier to gauge a response. With each slash of Tamagawa's slash, she felt the waves and ripples echo past Kiyori, stirring the fish away, but the water did not harm her.
"Can't we just walk through master?" Before waiting for an answer, Kiyori filled her lungs with air, and put her foot into the barrier.
As Tamagawa's pupil stepped foot into the barrier she would feel the warm liquid surround her. It was as if she had just dived into the ocean, the saltwater would lightly burn at the eyes made the advance into the barrier. It was a long walk, luckily, those whom were trained in Breathing Techniques would easily be able to make the trip in one go. Which meant that everyone here could make the journey through except the student's accomplice.
Tamagawa watched with his mouth wide open. How come he didn't think of that? He swallowed his pride and slipped his blade back into its sheathe before filling his lungs with massive amounts of oxygen and leaping into the barrier with his legs forward. The student would
follow suit, he cautiously took a breath - wincing as his ribs expanded and slowly stepped into the barrier. To him the barrier felt euphoric, calming his heart, and even numbing his pain.
Taking another step, Kiyori was the first to leave the barrier on the other side. Her eyes stung, and her clothes were soaked, yet these feelings paled in comparison to the sense of joy she felt when she realised that she was safe. For the first time in a long while, she could relax completely, for even when in the river pillar estate, there was always the possibility of someone entering uninvited. Taking another step towards the cabin, she turned around to give a subdued smile to her companions, though the demon seemed to be staying behind.
"Do you know the man sitting on the porch earlier? You seemed quite upset with him."
"Of course I was! We were invited here! And then he had the gall to just look at us and close the door? Nope, I'm not having it!" Tamagawa fully pulled himself from the barrier, the last thing leaving the water being his left foot.
As soon as both feet hit the earth, the River Pillar began to stomp ahead towards the building. His feet stomped loud, clacking obnoxiously upon the wood as he finally reached the door. And he wasn't there to knock, no, instead he raised his right leg and snapped out his foot with extreme force - and Tamagawa watched as the wooden frame snapped and the door was sent high speed into the abode.
"Where the hell do you get off treating guests like that? Eh - I'm gunna find whoever is above you in this Shitgetsu organization and taddle on your ass!" Tamagawa spat, extending out his hand towards Kiyori, beckoning here to assist him it seems.
"Oi - Nobu, let's show this prissy boy some lessons!" His eyes honed in on the man who sat at a small table with a hot steaming kettle and several cups of tea. One for each of the intruders.
Seemingly taking Tamagawa's words to heart, Kiyori entered the estate calmly, passing by her master and trotting towards her target. Her steps were light and were accompanied by soft creaks in the floorboards, but her face was stern and her eyes locked with the man. When she reached the table and the two were eye to eye, Kiyori took a breath and bowed abruptly.
"Thank you for taking us in sir, I am very grateful for your hospitality, and so is my master." She spoke softly before adjusting her coat as she sat down. "Master Tamagawa has had a rough day, so please treat him kindly."
"It seems that atleast your pupil is polite, Tamagawa Ichirou." The man's mature voice was a smooth tune that seemed to carry wisdom along its notes. He lifted the porcelain teacup decorated with koi to his lips and took a small sip - all the while refusing to acknowledge his threats.
"Thank you, young one. Please, gather the young swordsman and his fellow demon companion. Once we've sat for tea - we may speak about the matter of your invitation." He smiled earnestly, sharpened canines clearly visible as he raised his lips to her.
"Like hell! Don't listen to this freak, Nobu, we are gunna smack this geezer up - and then we'll pour that hot tea on him. Then we can talk! Tamagawa's eyes slit like a predator's, stomping towards the man's table and planting a foot square onto the wood causing a few cups to spill out.
"Please master, let it slide." Kiyori slit herself back from the table and looked Tamagawa in the eyes. There was an underlying desperation in her words and her face had the look of a scared cat, slit eyes and all. "This place could be our home, a real home without bias or prejudi-"
"We aren't here to play house, Nobu!" Tamagawa quickly snapped out, cutting off his student rudely. His foot remained planted - though his vision pried itself from the long-haired man to the only other person in the room. "We are here to join Shingetsu. But this egotistical tea-sipper just wants to play games!" The River Pillar pressed more weight down upon the table causing the wood to creak, and whine, eventually snapping the surface clean through.
"Yes." Kiyori responded as she wiped pieces of wood from her lap. "You are right of course, we did not come here to discuss the weather." Noticing how serious Tamagawa was about this, Kiyori had no choice but to join his cause; as she had decided once before. "Maybe we can skip the tea and get down to business?" Taking on some of the tension that Tamagawa released into the air, Kiyori stood up and positioned herself next to her master.
The long-haired man sighed thoughtlessly as the tea he had worked so hard to brew was now spilled across the floor. His eyes peeled over to the formerRiver Pillar who stood before him with such an arrogant disposition. But the man would contain himself, as he wasn't the type to get worked up so easy - never was - and to think that the Demon Slayer Corps had fallen so low.
Soon after, the student would finally decide to peer inside the home. He was obviously very cautious, glancing between the long-haired man and the two who had traveled along with him a bit frantically. He was wounded and would not be able to assist after all. The Shingetsu associate then looked over to the wounded student, extending out a left hand and drawing in fingers to beckon him. "Very well, I guess no formalities then - my name is Momiji, and I am a demon under the service of Shingetsu." His head dipped down in a brief nod of introduction.
The river pillar spoke again, but his words were harsh and insensitive. uncomfortably glancing at her master as he joked about what she considered taboo, she felt like responding at all would be a mistake. For as long as she's known him, he had these quips of immaturity, but considering the gravity of the situation, there was the expectation that he would act the part at least somewhat; it would go a long way to convince and inspire the new recruits.
To absolutely nobody’s surprise, the student responded less then kindly, sending all sorts of shade towards her master; not even the now named Kuchizaki could calm his agitation. Kiyori always felt this aura around Tamagawa, like he wasn’t susceptible to outside opinions and his unbiased thoughts could flow freely; it made him feel invincible. Not Kiyori though, every time the student opened his mouth to insult her master, more and more blood shot to her head until the veins started showing.
She knew how it looked from an outside perspective, and she understood why the boy lashed out like he did. If you had just betrayed your friends and family for a cause that might get you killed, of course you would want that cause to support you, tell you that it wasn’t a mistake. It was exactly for that reason that Kiyori swallowed her feelings and kept walking, or so she would if he hadn't…
“How about you?” Kiyori’s words echoed from the front of the group. As Kiyori turned her head sideways to pierce her vibrant cat-slit eyes into the students' she could feel her blood boiling hot. “Forgive me if I am wrong, but I would almost believe you aren’t fully committed to this new life you’ve chosen; with the way you talk about your master you sound like you respect his opinion. So I wonder, what would he think if he heard that his precious student had betrayed him.” Although she returned her eyes on the road and hidden from her peers, the spite behind her words were obvious to any man with ears.
“Don’t judge master Tamagawa by just his flaws, I know the Ubuyashiki do not.”
Multiple sets of footsteps echoed through the woods, each step blending in with the surrounding rain. Strolling along the rear of the group, the river pillar confidently looked ahead; in the middle, the demon boy walked next to the student who held onto his shoulder as if it were about to fall off; and in the front was Kiyori, her cautious eyes scanning the perimeter for any threats.
For a while, not a word was spoken, and the only noise protruding through the rain were the strained breaths of the injured student. Wiping off some raindrops from her forehead, Kiyori peered into the distance, though her focus was split between the road ahead, and her back.
“Your breathing is heavy. Does it hurt?” Kiyori softly asked.
“I’m fine, just keep your eyes on the road.” He spoke before releasing a painful cough.
“I don’t buy it, all this rain is keeping your wounds from closing-”
“I said I’m fine.” The student harshly interrupted the demon. Looking at the hand that was supporting his shoulder, he observed the blood on it slowly being washed away by the rain.
“Suit yourself,” Kiyori stated. “Once you collapse, your friend can carry you.” As she continued to walk down the road, she rested her left hand on her blade. It hadn’t completely sunk in yet, but they were truly on the run. Even when she had to stay hidden in the estate, it never felt like a prison; if anything, it was a safe haven from the prejudice and hate that so many harbored against her. But now it caught up with her.
Releasing a deep sigh, her lungs filled the air with warm vapor that dissipated quickly into the rain as she followed it up until her eyes rested on the luminescent moon. As the sound of thunder loomed in the distance, she could only ponder on how pretty the night sky could be.
Hey, so is there a discord channel for this RP? like 75% of my activity is on discord, it's a lot easier to communicate and coordinate stuff there imo. :D

Once upon a time, Kiyori was human. She grew up in a rural village with the tranquil feeling you only get in a close-knit community. As usual in the times, Her family was quite big, and she enjoyed the company of many brothers and sisters, as well as grandparents. The Nobu family as it was called, was one that was peered upon with respect, as many great warriors hailed from their lineage. So too, had the girl been blessed with a bright future as she was scouted early in her life by a member of the elusive Demon slayer corps. A tall imposing man; the Pillar of Water he called himself, had asked to take Kiyori under his wing to train her as his Tsuguko, and Kiyori and her parents were all too glad to comply.
The next few years were rigorous and fruitful, as they had turned the young Kiyori from a seed of potential into a blossoming warrior of the blade. By the time she turned 16 she had taken many demons out of the picture, developing a breathing style that she could call her own, and she and her Pillar had grown quite close to each other; close enough to go on missions together. But then came a mission too much for her. They faced a twelve demons moon, and though they fought valiantly, both were killed in action.
The next time Kiyori opened her eyes, she laid alone in a pool of blood, her memories blurry, and a sudden urge for blood; she had become a demon. Ashamed by her nature, Kiyori hid herself in the local cemetery’s well before the sun could rise.
For three days she stayed in that well, Growing hungrier every passing moment. Every time she heard a voice from above, she could feel herself slipping into a frenzy, but she didn’t want to admit to it; killing humans was wrong. Whenever Kiyori imagined herself feasting on a person, her heart twisted and turned until she lost her appetite completely. But when driven to the edge, any creature would eventually revert to its most basic instincts, and the ravaging hunger for flesh could not be dispelled forever.
On the fourth day, as the sun had set, the demon girl finally caved into her demon nature. Lucky for her, the gravekeeper left a corpse behind so she wouldn’t need to kill.
After that day had passed, Kiyori realised she could abstain from murder by living of the ones who had left this world. For many years, she hid in the well, and whenever the hunger would return, a corpse would go missing in the cemetery, although the citizens could never figure out where they had gone.
It was at this point that Kiyori awakened to her Blood Demon Art. She would station herself on top of the roofs of unsuspecting victims, releasing her mist through the chimney to make them fall unconscious. This allowed her to enter the house on her own terms, and she quickly learned how to drink the blood of her victims without killing a single one, always making sure her targets were healthy and fit.
But that was a big mistake, as the people quickly realised how many of them had similar wounds; it didn’t take long after that for the Demon slayer corps to show its face.
A pillar named Tamagawa had been sent to investigate the anomalous situation, rightly suspecting demon involvement. Through unknown means, Tamagawa quickly located Kiyori as she was preparing to enter a settlement for nourishment. He commended the demon girl for staying hidden so long and abstaining from murdering anyone and took pity on the demon for having to live like she did, but also knew the risks involved. As such he didn’t take long to draw his sword to announce his request for a fight. Kiyori agreed to the request, and was quickly defeated. The fight was bloody and it left her famished, yet as she sat beaten on the ground, Tamagawa threw away his sword, asking her to eat him.
Kiyori almost gave in to her hunger, but before she could completely lose herself, she managed to throw a bag of wisteria at him and the moment she smelled it, all her senses returned as her appetite faded away.
The pillar gave Kiyori a choice: Stay and live here in fear of humanity, or come with him to become his student. Her history would stay hidden, and a cover would be created that said Kiyori had become a demon right in front of Tamagawa, who wished to see if they could shape a demon if taken immediately after being born, like an experiment. Of course, as she had eaten quite a few people, she would pretend to be a more weak and fresh demon, as proposed to the experienced blood demon art user.
Nowadays, Kiyori spends her days training under Tamagawa, showing a surprising amount of talent; most certainly a feat she inherited from her life as a human. And although she has not learned any breathing techniques, her nature as a demon offers her a platitude of different skills to use in battle, which will come in handy as she wishes to complete the Final Selection soon.

For a while now, Ava had been quiet. It’s not like she lost her voice or had her head in the clouds, she just didn’t know what to say. They were running around through the city, but it wasn’t their city, and every second she had to spend there was a second too much.
Even as Alex spoke to her, she could do nothing but nod to his questions. She was honestly impressed by how casually Alexander and Hakuro dealt with the situation as even when Ava suggested to go after laurence, it was just to keep her mind focused; it felt like her brain would explode if anything else showed up to question her entire existence.
And of course, right as she thought that, Alex dove to the floor followed by the shimmer of what had to be Laurence running straight past them. That was it, they’d hit rock bottom, if you looked really close, you could even see the smoke leaving Ava’s ears as she looked at the boys with dumbstruck eyes.
“A-are we sure that was Laurence? He didn’t see us? Uh, he must’ve been running for a reason right?” She quickly responded to Alex before looking where Laurence came from, hoping that nothing would appear.
