Now, N just needs to get on and authorize me to catch or nay ;-;
I find it no fun to start with powerful moves, myself!

I absolutely need to use that casual "started from the bottom, now we here"
The First Battle: Cyndaquil vs Zangoose

The Cyndaquil became increasingly excited for the battle about to begin, the flames on it's back grew intense, to the point that his trainer, Nero, had to take a step back to avoid an accidental burn. Meanwhile, the Zangoose raised it's paws, apparently ready to attack - and it only took a second for it to dash towards Cyndaquil, his claws glowing white. Nero leaped back and at the same time, warned Cyndaquil of the incoming danger; "Cyndaquil, look out!"

There was barely time for the tiny fire-type to dodge, though. The Scratch attack hit true, sending Cyndaquil a good distance away. It stood itself up, shaking his head to regain focus. Nero's expression was a worried one, but Cyndaquil seemed alright. "Right, Smokescreen, now!"
The command was given and Cyndaquil opened it's mouth, releasing a thick black smoke towards the Zangoose. As the normal-type fought with the smoke for his own sight, Nero followed with another attack; "Ember!"

Cyndaquil's back erupted with flames as he spat out three balls of fire towards the Zangoose, harming the wild pokémon, but barely close to bring it down. Zangoose, in the meanwhile, crossed it's arms and pressed his claws against one another, his claws started to glow with a blue energy, increasing his own attack and recovering the accuracy he had just lost.

"Smart," Nero thought, smirking for a brief moment.

"Let's hinder his defense a little, Leer!"

Cyndaquil glared directly towards Zangoose, who instantly glared back. Both Cyndaquil and Zangoose had their defenses lowered; however, Zangoose was far faster and was already charging for another attack, his claws glowing as he began repeatedly slashing towards the Cyndaquil, who surprisingly managed to pull some dexterity and agility to dodge two hits, but was still caught in three slashes. "Holding up pretty well, Cyndaquil!"

"Quil!" The fire-type replied, flames sprouting from it's back. Nero understood the message, "Right, Scratch, now!" The Zangoose had distracted itself in the flurry of attacks, a perfect opportunity for Cyndaquil to leap high into the air, behind it, and slash at his back, sending the taller pokémon toppling forward. Nero readied a pokéball quickly while the Zangoose was down, "Now seems like a good time!" The pokéball was tossed towards the normal-type, absorbing it into a flash of red light. The pokéball felt on the ground with a soft thud, and began moving around...

...

...

The Zangoose came out, destroying the pokéball in the process. It seemed enraged, ready to destroy his foes at any cost! "Zangooose!" The feral pokémon swiftly moved towards Cyndaquil, leaping high into the air. "Zaaaaan!" It practically shouted, descending with both of it's claws towards the tiny fire-type pokémon. There was no way the Cyndaquil could take it and the fire-type took the attack pretty harshly, flying a few meters away.

"Damn, Cyndaquil!" Nero hurried over towards the timid pokémon, but it stood up, shaking slightly. Quick, weak sprouts of flame came out of it's back, before an immense burst of flame erupted much like a volcano from his back. That meant two things: Blaze had been activated and Cyndaquil was running low on health. "Let's not waste this opportunity, then... Ember!" Pressing it's paws against the ground underneath it, the Cyndaquil let forth a powerful flame towards the Zangoose, it's size far bigger than a mere Ember. While the Feral pokémon attempted to avoid it, it still got caught into the flame tornado and was knocked back with marks from the battle covering it's entire body.

"Good job, Cyndaquil. You should take a rest now, good job!" Nero wasn't simply satisfied with Cyndaquil, he was in awe. But, those thoughts ought to be left for later, now, he was ready to obtain his first self-caught pokémon: Zangoose. A pokéball was readied, this time, it wouldn't slip away...

"Zangoose, you are mine!"

The pokéball absorbed the pokémon for the second time, knocking from side to side... once... twice... thrice. The green glow in ther meaning success appeared and both Nero and Cyndaquil cheered in unison. The trainer and his recently gained pokémon seemed to get along pretty well.

"Yeah! Good job, Cyndaquil!"

It all depends on common sense.

Baton Pass, because it's hell to get? Eh, okay.

Strongest attack of X element? UUuuh.

Anywho, by the time it becomes relevant (competitive player vs player, pokemon league, intense criminal appearance) mostly everyone will already become powerful sufficient, I suppose.
Look it up on Bulbapedia.

Wasn't the Piplup the starter he just got, though?

Well, no matter. Meanwhile, I'll catch dat Zangoooooose. GOOOOOOOOOOOOSE. (boiled goooooose)
