World of Tanks

For anyone interested in this game: Yes you can drive the legendary German Tiger. Try to learn some game mechanics first before you go for it. In fact I cannot in good conscience recommend racing up that tech tree to beginners at all.

First off there are five different classes of tanks: heavy tanks, medium tanks, light tanks, tank destroyers and artillery. On paper a heavy tank leads from the front, light tanks stealthily scout ahead, medium tanks flank distracted enemies, tank destroyers ambush and artillery dislodges campers. This is on paper only. There are heavy tanks that need to be played as a medium (VK4501A, most higher tier French tanks). There are lights that have the armour of a heavy (AMX40, Valentine). There is even an artillery that is a perfectly good scout (FV304). Use your brain, read the wiki, get to know your tank just a little before taking it out for a spin and loo and behold suddenly you are a better player than 80% of what's out there.

Each tank has a certain 'tier' ranging from one to ten. Tier one tanks are small tanks from before world war two, while tier ten tanks range from relatively modern Main Battle Tanks from around 1955 or experimental superheavies from world war two that never made it past the drawing board. You will almost never see tanks that are more than two tiers higher than you. Key word almost: SCOUT MATCHMAKING is a mechanic added to the game due to a lack of light tanks past tier five. Example: in order to get to the Tiger, you will need to research and play a tank called the Pz. 38nA. This is a tier four light tank. Normally tier four tanks face up to tier six tanks. BUT! The Pz.38nA gets scout matchmaking, or in other words it sees up to tier eight tanks. What is it supposed to do in battles with tanks that can simply ignore it's gun because of all their armour? As the name implies, scout. Tanks receive half the credits and experience for damage done to targets they (and only they) spot for their team. See the video below.

Let's suppose for a moment you have managed to get your Tiger. Good on you. Yet for some reason over half of your shots bounce off enemy armour while they swiftly reduces your tank to Swiss cheese. This is because having a big flat plate of armour is not enough on it's own to deflect bullets. The angle of impact is just as important as the raw thickness. I am a light tank nut. As in 55% of all of my games are in light tanks, most of them higher tier scouts. Oddly though it is not in the german scout line, the Pz.38 nA is definitely the better tier 4 German scout compared to the Luchs. As in, here's what happened in the first game after I bought it back:

History: Experienced mech pilot. Enthusiastic. Inspired by magical girl anime before she became a full fledged pilot to the great annoyance of her partner, the Russian made Konstantin.

Developed by recently started Vladof Arms company Konstantin featured a promising new control set-up that allowed a pilot to literally meld minds with their machine. Due to politics both Russian elements as well as the US and UK were interested in seeing the experiment fail and sabotaged the selection process for the pilot. The new system required a deep bond between (wo)man and machine, and the line of reasoning was that a strict and disciplined soldier would therefore work the best. Enter the then private Jessica: A wild and unruly girl from east London that was nearly a stereotype squaddy. Foul mouthed, temperamental, a liver on par with the average Russian and boisterous she at first glance was the least suitable candidate available.

In an unexpected twist it became readily apparent that she was the only one drift compatible with Konstantin, her fiery nature tempered by his thoughtful and methodical habits and her intuition and aggressiveness overcoming his stiff mechanical predictability. Within a month both partners had made a lasting impact on each other, both personalities subtly shifting to match each other even better than before. In the aftermath of the experiment using the ‘drift interface’ has become rare as the effects of the mental contamination are scrutinised. As for the pair themselves neither of them tend to concern themselves with the philosophical consequences of their union. As far as the duo is concerned they are perfect soul mates and both are happy about it.

Currently the two are stationed at the Scherazade Academy to teach fresh faced recruits what end of a knife is pointy and how to tie the shoelaces of their mechs while the RWMD research staff look into further effects of the drift interface, and how to refine the system for possible future use. In charge of Physical Education as well as advanced CQC classes.

Quirks: Squaddie - As a British soldier Jessica is well versed in the arts of combat, offensive black humour, understatement, and not giving a single shite about even the worst of circumstances.

Likes to think of herself as a magical girl though she has not been able to convince Konstantin of adopting a flashier exterior other than the distinctive stylised visor that has become their signature. Outside of this she enjoys multiplayer shooters and annoying her husband. She will call out her attacks in combination with Konstantin, a remnant of the voice activated weapon systems used before the advent of mental command systems.

Dislikes people who tell her she shouldn't swear. She is prejudiced towards the military and thinks less of civilians. When on duty she is strict on discipline and will not hesitate to shout down the everloving bejeesus out of anyone who thinks ‘Sarge’ is the proper way to address a Sergeant.
“Sarge? Fecking SARGE?! There are three sorts of sarge, massage, sausage and passage. You call me sarge again and I'll massarge a sausarge up your passarge! AM I CLEAR?!” - J
A fierce patriot one should never talk smack about the Queen, the armed forces or Britain in general when she is in earshot. Jessica will deck the person in question.

Skills:
Hand-to-hand (Expert): With the advance of both Ren and Ki, Jessica holds the opinion that firearms have become relatively less important than being able to administer a reasonable amount of force face to face. As such she is well versed in hand to hand combat, preferring the russian Sambo style martial arts she learned from her husband.
Sword fighting (Expert): Related to the hand to hand combat Jessica has been trained with to use the swords integrated into Konstantin’s wrists with lethal efficiency even if she prefers to clobber people up the head with elbow rocket propelled fists.
Firearms (Professional): Although she specialises in hand to hand, she is able to slot a target once every two hundred rounds. This makes her a lot more useful than most spams who on average spend around two hundred and fifty thousand rounds to achieve the same effect. (Translation from squaddie slang: She's an avarage markswoman by the standards of professional soldiers.)

Ren: ???
Ki: She can use it's basic functions to strengthen herself, but projection interferes with the alchemy that Konstantin is made up of. Instead it is used by Konstantin as extra fuel.

Pilot: объект 1340 - Константин (Objekt 1340 - Konstantin)

Others: She and Konstantin have a habit of finishing each other's sentences.

Relationships: Married to Konstantin for little over two years now.

Personally I suspect it has something to do with the not quite so bright and cheerful nature of the setting.

Damn that was fast. Props to you. Anyway the original design I had in mind weighed around 67 tons... I'll leave the other dimensions up to your imagination. Needless to say I feel it is too big if your idea for this RP was more along the lines of powered armour.

My idea summed up in a sentence: Cheerful enthusiastic girl pilot paired with grumpier, straight-laced warrior as a battle couple.

While we didn't really thought about the Ren-mechas to have a 'sentient' operational system (More like a navigational system), I think we'll include it. ^.^ So yeah, feel free to have an OS-tan for your mecha, whatever you want to name it. I'll discuss things with Haruna later about the follow-up for this. The suit is, basically, like the suits from Date a Live.

Whoa, that's a lot lighter than I had imagined. I was under the impression it was 25m tall or something.

Makatsume Haru said The mecha reacts to the implant, so yes, it can be summoned whenever you need it while in the city, thanks to the military underground facilities in which mechas are stored. For suiting up, feel free to come up with your own way to do it, as an exoskeleton of sorts, it attaches to the body via a direct link with the implant (Usually ubicated in the stomach), this is completely wireless.

I was thinking both the pilot and the avatar live together, and suiting up is more of a fusion. Obviously he becomes the suit while she is the wearer, but it would be fun to do.

For the IK, however, there are those in the project RMDW who are also allowed to have a Ren-mecha.I don't see a real problem with the last part, just be aware that the real 'Magical Girls' (Gem-mancers) will practically hate her. She can either paint it herself or request the paint job. Any more questions, feel free to shoot them out. ^.^

Questions:
What is currently the standard accepted means of defence, armour or mobility? Basically is it standard to dodge shots or is it worth it to have heavy armour?
What is the upper limit with regards to the size of the mech?
Roughly how old are pilots normally? I'm thinking of a twenty something couple, would that fit?

Interested, I would like to play as a pilot - machine pair. Could it be possible for the machine to have a humanoid avatar? How does 'suiting up' work? Could she summon the frame from anywhere? Who could she be working for?

Lastly the (female) pilot loves to think of herself as a magical girl but I have no idea how this would work, could she order a custom paintjob for example? For the record her machine loathes the idea because he likes to think of himself as a serious warmachine.
