This is the OOC/Sign-Ups for an RP I am starting (find the interest check here). The RP takes place in the Low/Dark Fantasy setting of Provinka, an isolated sub-continent in which magic is present but exceedingly rare and generally not believed in.

The RP will be centered around several characters exploring (read: looting) some recently rediscovered ruins belonging to a hitherto unknown, and by all appearances quite advanced, civilization from Provinka's murky past. See above for a little more info, but the gist of it is that these ruins are rumored to contain untold treasures and or a wealth of archaeological discoveries. As such, your characters can be quite varied. They might be a greedy treasure-hunter looking to strike it rich, a scholar seeking a new fount of knowledge, or perhaps just an adventurer who can't resist the call of the ruins of a once magnificent city. Whatever might motivate your character and draw them towards this lost city.

On the topic of characters, a couple things. I won't be accepting too many, at least not at first. I'm still getting back into the swing of things, and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I don't really have any hard limit, but probably not more than five or so, unless I see a character that I like too much to leave out. Also, as per the "low" in my low fantasy setting, humans are very much so the norm. However, I'm of course willing to accept a couple fantastical raced characters. There are a few Elven communities scattered through Provinka, and the Western Mountains are home to several Dwarven realms. I'm also willing to accept any creative, custom-made races you might come up with so long as they're interesting/not-overpowered. Where am I going with all this? I'll probably only accept a couple non-human characters, and I'd honestly probably expect a bit more out of you quality wise. A tad unfair, probably, but them's the breaks.

Anyways, here's a character template:

Any other interesting tidbits about your character:

Now, just a few ground rules. Most importantly, don't be rude or disrespectful (unless it's in-character, naturally). We're all here to have fun guys. :) Secondly, I'm honestly not too big a stickler on quality control. Just keep the length and grammar up to a reasonable level. I make grammatical errors on a daily basis, and I understand not being able to make every post a masterpiece. Just be mindful of punctuation and try to give the next person something to go off of. Also on a somewhat-related note, I like to encourage character building. If there isn't any action going on around you, chat with the other characters, explore your characters, develop relationships. This isn't a solo project. Last of all, feel free to make any suggestions you might have or ask any questions that might be on your mind.

*One final note on equipment. Keep it simple for now. As a general rule of thumb, no powerful magical items. Minor accessories with some significance to your characters with some magical gimmick is perfectly fine, of course. Don't worry, you'll all be getting better and shinier toys as the RP progresses. :)

LOVE IT

Why thank you. :) Feel free to make suggestions or ask questions

On a side note, I fixed the broken hider...
Hello all! As part of my effort to get back into the wonderful world of role-playing, from which I'd taken an extended leave of absence, I'm interested in starting a new character RP. As the title might suggest, the setting is medieval fantasy. I say "low" fantasy, because while magic and fantastical races certainly do exist, in these particular lands they are rare, and generally not something that grown folks believe in. The aforementioned land is Provinka, a sub-continent similar to India in that it is surrounded by the ocean and generally kept isolated from other lands by extensive mountain ranges to the West.

After a long period of calm and peace in Provinka, things are beginning to become rather more interesting. A savage, unknown people in dragon ships are appearing off the Northern coastlines, raiding and pillaging coastal communities. Noone knows the origins of these raiders, noone knows the style of their uniforms or their language. They are a thoroughly alien people come to terrorize Provinka. They have thus far been seen only a handful of times, but each time they come they come with steel and flames. They have a couple times been fought off, but they strike without warning and with a surprising ferocity, so it is difficult to mount an effective defense.

In response to the recent raids, King Geralt of Dalria has ordered the fortification of the Dalrian coastline. He has ordered the local lords to garrison coastal communities, and has sent a troop of his own men to assist with the defenses. As a result, however, the Dalrians have made a very interesting discovery. Just on the fringes of the western mountains, close to the northern coastline, lies a vast, tangled forest. While sometimes used for hunting and gathering by the locals, the forest has been left undisturbed in the sparsely populated area. However, while on their way to reinforce the coast, a force of Dalrian soldiers stumbled upon a surprise. Nestled deep within the woods lies a massive city, noticeably ancient and unlike any other in all of Provinka. Composed of once graceful towers and crumbling structures of unknown architecture, the city is a tantalizing hint of once grand, now forgotten past for the people of Provinka.

While generally ignored by the Dalrians themselves, the discovery of the city made quite a buzz throughout the rest of Provinka. The Turizi Dalrians, weary of their foreign overlords, have claimed it as proof of their inherent superiority over the Western Barbarians who dwell in ugly stone castles. The Viorla think it the site of a once grand Temple to the Sky, and the scholars of the Eastern cities believe it to be the remnants of a previously unknown civilization. An obscure cult amongst the strange Lorelae people, a minority population in some Turizi cities, have proclaimed it to be the city of the Gods before they abandoned the world to humanity. Regardless of the cities true origins, it has already begun to attract a variety of adventurers. From explorers and treasure hunters to scholars, the city is soon to have it's depths plumbed and it's secrets exposed.

Which, naturally, is where you folks and your characters would come in. Anyone interested? :)

OOC is up!!!
Thank you both for the welcome. :)
Name: Yoshitsune, Matotsuru
Age: 21
Sex: M

Appearance: Matotsuru is an average sized man, about 5'4 and thin, though well-muscled. His skin is rather pale for a military man, and his eyes are noted as being very wide. He wears his long hair in a ponytail, unless a more formal situation calls for the traditional topknot. For this particular journey he has adopted the sort of sturdy, simple clothes that might be seen on any moderately well-to-do peasant. While traveling he has taken to wearing a straw jingasa, of the sort popular amongst the Ashigaru.

Weapons: A yumi longbow passed down from his grandfather, and the traditional Samurai daisho, in his case a katana and wakizashi.

Personality: Matotsuru, despite his youth, is a brave and dedicated Samurai. He, like most young men of his class, was raised on tales of bravery Samurai heroics. For his entire life he has tried to live up to the example set by the old heroes of the Gempai War. He is confident in his abilities, perhaps more so than he should be, and is ever eager to prove himself to be a valiant and loyal warrior.

Still, Matotsuru is mindful of his relative inexperience, especially when compared to some of his more illustrious traveling companions. He has the utmost respect for his elders, and is constantly seeking to learn whatever lessons that they are able to impart after their long years of service. After all, only a foolish man would ignore the lessons of one who has lived to old age in a time where war and death is a commonly accepted part of life.

Bio: The Yoshitsune family has a long and proud history. The claim descent from one of the most loyal and skilled vassals of Minamoto no Yoritomo, the founder of the first Shogunate. According to family tradition, their ancestor once saved the life of the young boy who would someday become Shogun. Thereafter he was Yoritomo's most trusted companion, and fight by his side throughout the entirety of the Gempai war. For his service he was granted extensive lands and many honours, and for a time the Yoshitsune family was one of the most powerful in Japan.

Such was not to last, of course. While the fortunes of the family waxed and waned throughout the years, and at one point they were the largest landowners in Kyushu, they faced a general downward trend. When the Mongols invaded, the Yoshitsune family was part of the fierce beach fighting that took place before the Kamikaze swept the Mongol hordes from the sea. During the fighting, however, it is whispered that the then patriarch of the noble Samurai lineage suffered a great, but unnamed shame. Some says he was lazy and indulgent, some say he was unskilled and easily defeated. Some few even whisper of cowardice, or worse, betrayal.

Whatever the original shame that the family came to bear, the Yoshitsune lineage never regained it's once grand stature. Their lands and respect were further diminished throughout the years, until at last Matotsuru's father owned only a small grant of land in Hyuga province with meager rice yields, his father's yumi, and a nearly obsolete suit of armor from the Gempai period. While his father was content to bemoan his fate and curse his cruel luck, Matotsuru swore to restore his family to greatness. While still in his teens, he traveled to the seat of the Yoshitsune's liege, Daimyo Ito Akio. He renewed his oath of vassalage, and pledged his service to the Daimyo.

While still young, Matotsuru has since proven himself to be a skilled warrior, as the Sengoku period has provided many opportunities for him to prove himself. His current assignment, to be part of the escort of his Daimyo's only daughter, came as a great and unexpected honor. It means he is being recognized as a proper Samurai, and is finally beginning to wipe away the shame of his family's past.

Ito hime (forgot that at first XD)
Hey all. :) I'm a new(ish) addition to the site; I had registered with this forum before all the hoopla that happened, but never really participated much due to being rather busy in RL. However, things have calmed down a bit, and I'm hoping to become much more active and get back into rping. I used to rp quite a lot a few years ago, but just sort of stopped after a while due to a few different factors. Anyways, I do greatly enjoy roleplaying; generally fantasy of various types, though I'm open to just about anything. I'm hoping to start participating in a couple rp's soon, and hopefully even starting one of my own.
