Cheesy!

I know its you.
So that means I can have a story arc where a punitive graal invasion that may or may not be the result of something by faction did and to fight them off a group of investors within the HN wanting to increase the harmony decide to try getting one of newsun's giant squid people of the warlord variety involved?

And totally doesn't involve any secret ploys at the same time to get their leathery hands on the squid suit.

None. Absolutely none.

Welcome there I like the concept, but maybe avoid the word 'union' to avoid confusion with another nation.

Currently i've chosen to use the word "Network" as opposed to union.

I'm debating with myself on where I should be since the Northern 180˚ galaxy sounds pretty cluttered as is and I kinda wanna come toe-toe with civilizations like the Graal and those ancient aliens, but at the same time I feel a need to be in a area where a extremely multi cultural society would prosper better.

I am aware of a post made around page six that details where all the civilizations are, but by page 17 I know more people joined since than. Any place to know where everyone is at position wise?
Role-playing wise i've been roleplaying since like the age of 12 or so back in 2009 on a site called sploder. At the time though, it was much more me trying to do text based games than roleplay. However it became that in time.

In 2010 on minecraft forums I started to actively roleplay, although in those times I did rapid fire quick text roleplays and I didn't really improve much on writing capability in forum RPs until 2011 when I made a roleplay called war room galactic domination which exemplifies how I viewed forum roleplaying as a game more than collaborative story.

That mindset lingered on, as in 2012 when I made space role-plays like Sagittarius my obsession with "balance" in a space RP setting got incredibly unreasonable. As a particularly unpleasant example I once told someone that nothing of value was lost when they quit the RP because I despised a race that I perceived as too peaceful since in my mind that equated to a mary sue race.

Said mindset ultimately led to a pretty big breakdown in in fall 2012 when I rage quitted a role-play I had and later cried "i'm leaving" in January. Although the reasons for that quitting had much more to do with me not wanting to enforce rules I disagreed with- a factor that in 2014 led to the RP clique I loosely associate with coming here.

2013 in roleplaying I consider a age of stagnation and decline since overall my interest in roleplaying took a steady decline since I never could keep interest in any RP I joined. Around September I quit again, although I came back 4 or so months later. By that point I pretty much decided to no longer announce any time I leave since I lost credibility by coming back a couple months later anyways.

By early 2014 I pretty much was on the verge of giving up the whole RP thing, but what managed to rekindle things was moving from minecraft forum RPs, something I wanted to do earlier but I liked being around a good share of the "precipricks" and instead stuck around. Eventually drama happened and the move to RPGuild happened.
Space opera wise I found something that may be interesting.

Doing a brief calculation I say there is every 100000 years about 25 civilizations with spaceships, plasma guns, energy shields and warp drive based FTL, and each of these civilizations on average takes 1000 star systems.

Only around 1,250,000,000 star systems would be colonized assuming a 5 billion year span for intelligent space faring societies and total uniformity to base64 math. That's not much given the galaxy has 300 billion stars.

So maybe it really may just be that the universe, let alone the milky way galaxy is just really, really big.

Although there lies a new issue; What about self replicating probes? A civilization that used such probes would be able to easily comb the galaxy in a mere 10 million years.
Yeah i've been a absentee as of recent. I promise to stick around more this time. And I see you decided to be a bug race this time around. Always fun to be a pseudo hivemind!

And as for galactic space RPs, all i'll say is that as long as one does not think about the actual scale of the milky way galaxy everything will be okay.
Moose!
So far it seems Newsun's species inhabits a similar area to where I wanna place the Harmonious Union.

The culture shock for Newsun's species of beings who are rigidly homogenous needless to say will likely be a spectacle to watch from afar.
Yeah this RP made me wanna return to the whole RP thing again since this RP has many species in a big galaxy with lots of people in play. Good combination since when you want a big space RP in a galactic environment you'll want lots of people and this RP seems to have that.

While I have not really bothered working on my app yet [late, brainstorming phase], here's a few notes on what they are niche-wise:

-The civilization is called the Harmony Network
-There are three alien species of around equal status to each other due to what can be referred at as a "collective marriage" of entire species to the Union. Other alien races in the network lack this status due to never carrying out a collective marriage with the Harmony Network.
-Each of the three main races have a different dominant sense; one is sound based, another is taste based and a the third is very touchy.
-Their union works in a loose, decentralized fashion with the main unification of their society being the common flow of information and ideological commitment to harmonious action. The "leaders" of their union being a think tank made up of individuals chosen in secret by the ever secretive custodians who only hold the power to elect and dismiss officials yet don't have actual political sway.
-The Harmony Network is a multi-cultural civilization, despite the three main species there is a large minority of aliens from various parts of the galaxy that have joined the union, as well there's various natives who live under protectorates of the Harmonious Network.
-They're a major regional power, having spread across quite a few star systems and there being historical contact with various species [although of what nature I am yet to be sure of].

I am not making the app currently as I have lots of reading to do on the races that are in play already, as well I somewhat am curious who else inhabits the Northern parts of the galaxy.

Well, looking through the apps it seems that the 180 degree area is pretty crowded, but at the same time I don't wanna be in a isolated area of the milky way. Maybe I could be in the north western parts of the milky way since I know a few civs are there.

Tech wise, I kind of want to go for loads of fancy gadgets and information based tech meaning they'd likely be great hackers. They also would have significant industrial power and lots of drones, but the quality of their technology is dubious at best and innovation wise they are reliant on taking technology of other species and integrating it; but they have independently developed a FTL system of their own and make regular use of fusion batteries.

I will explain their moral concept of harmony in the app sheet.
