Welcome to the Promise Institute

You have a gift; a special ability granted to you and only you. At the Promise Institute, we are dedicated to helping you develop your gift into a force of good, while also providing a quality college education and boarding on our beautiful campus located off the coast of Victoria, B.C., Canada. You will be studying and training with gifted peers and experienced staff. More than that, the Promise Institute provides an environment for its students to form lasting bonds and share memorable experiences through clubs, parties, and other social events. We are excited to have you joining us for the Fall 2019 Semester!

Gifts are seen as special abilities given to people who are meant to improve society. A very small percentage of the population develops such a gift. Gifts are not passed down genetically or predetermined in any way, but randomly appear between the ages of 17 and 21. Prior to the manifestation of their gift, a gifted person would have lead a normal life with no signs of being gifted in any way. The public's view on gifts varies widely. Acceptance, denial, hatred, jealousy, and worship are among the many reactions people have to such powers.

Examples of gifts would be the ability to read minds, move objects telepathically, generate force fields, or heal rapidly. You may notice these gifts' similarity to the superpowers of comic book heroes, and that is not without reason. Such characters were based on gifted individuals who used their power for justice, but with heroes come villains. To elimate that threat, the gifted are not allowed to dole out their own justice as superheroes, but instead are encouraged to attend the Promise Institute.

The Promise Institute was founded to provide a safe place for the gifted to learn about their power and train while also contributing to the research of gifts. For their research contribution, students are given a free college education in their field of choice. The Institute's promise is to help the gifted find a way to improve society with their gift. Thus, someone with the ability of to bend steel may pursue a career in relief help to rescue victims from cars and buildings.

In this roleplay, your character will join the 2019 freshman class of the Promise Institute. Students come from all over the world to recieve safety, training, and eductaion. The goal is to develop your character and their relationship with other students while surviving the obstacles I throw in your way. Ready to make your character?

Rules and Guidelines for Character Creation

• One to two characters per person.
• No fantasy species like werewolves, vampires, fairies, etc. All characters are human.
• Characters must be between the ages of 17 and 21.
• Characters must be diverse in at least one or two ways (race, sexuality, gender, etc.).
• Gifts must be simple like the examples and only one power, not a set of powers. I will let you know if you need to change your gift.
• Gifts must be unique. If you submit a gift someone has already chosen, you will have to change. A list of gifts already claimed can be found in the Characters tab.
• Your gift must have some kind of drawback, such as exhaustion, a limit of uses per day, a charge time, etc.
• Your character's "bonds" are the people they are close to prior to joining the Promise Institute. This could be family, friends, etc.
• Don't be too detailed with personality or background in your character submission. Present me with more of a character concept, and everything else will flesh itself out in the RP.
• For appearance, please provide a textual description of your character. You may also use an image if you want, but a description is required.

My intention is for the characters to get to know each other very naturally. To achieve this, only I will have access to full character sheets. All I will publish before the RP starts is the username of those who have been accepted. What you divulge about your character is up to you.

Dorms

Luxury dorms are provided to every student attending the Promise Institute. They are co-ed. Each dorm has two separate bedrooms with their own closet, desk, drawers, and bed. The dorms also have two bathrooms with a sink, toilet, and shower/bathtub combination in each. Lastly, there is a small living room with a couch, coffee table, and TV screen, as well as a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. The students are free to decorate their dorms as they wish. Roommate assignments are 100% random, but changes can be requested if all parties consent.

World of Unnatural People (Supernatural/superhuman rp) Always Accepting!!!

As he waited for a reply from his patron, Connor heard a few voices deeper in the woods. He assumed it was some teens messing around, but moved to the edge of the clearing to be safe. Vindsval had been specific that Connor was not to involve other mortals in his work, but he had shown his best friend some of his magic regardless. Who could keep something that cool completely secret?

You must uncover the stone from its resting place beneath the earth at the center of the clearing. Charge it with moonlight, then bring it home with you.

The instructions appeared in Connor's journal, beneath the question he had previously written. He nodded to himself and put the journal into his backpack, then retrieved a small gardening shovel. Leaving his belongings behind by the trees, Connor walked to the approximate center of the clearing and began digging.

The stone was not too far beneath the soil. He unearthed the object and brushed it off to get a better look at it. The stone fit in the palm of his hand, and swirls of turquoise and gold shone out from its inky blackness. Connor recognized it as labradorite, a stone known to carry magical properties. He wondered briefly why Vindsval had him come out here to dig up a fairly common crystal, but pushed the irritation aside and focused instead on the task at hand.

Now all he had to do was ... charge it ... with moonlight? Connor wasn't sure at all how to do that, but he didn't want Vindsval to think he was incapable of completing his tasks by himself. So, the boy took a deep, steadying breath and held the stone out before him, letting the moonlight hit it.

Nothing happened. Was something supposed to happen? How would he know it was charged? This isn't a phone.

While he was distracted by his thoughts, the colors in the stone began to intensify and come to life. Blue, green, and gold light shone brightly from the stone, collecting in tendrils and moving around his body. He startled, nearly dropping the crystal, but balanced himself and watched in awe as the colors swirled through the air before his eyes.

A bright white beam of light from the moon hit the stone, and sent a wave of light rippling through the trees, then everything was still. Guess it's charged now, Connor thought, amused. He slipped the crystal into his jacket pocket and went to retrieve his backpack. As he slung it over his shoulder, Connor heard the voices deep in the woods again.

Had they been able to see the light rippling through the trees? What were they doing in the forest at midnight anyway? Connor's curiosity pulled him toward the voices, and he was unable to resist.

Pine needles softened the blow of Connor's boots to the forest floor as he trudged through the trees. The midnight moon overhead and the dim light of a dying flashlight were all he had to guide him through the unfamiliar wilderness. He had been at this for nearly an hour with no sign of the clearing his patron had mentioned. He would give up and go home if he wasn't afraid of what the minor deity may do to him if he did not uphold his end of the pact.

So, he kept walking, scanning the pines for the symbol his patron had shown him. Runes. Connor was familiar enough with the basics of the magic writing system. He knew the runes for the elements and some fundamental spell casting components. This rune was different though, a unique rune that Vindsval used to communicate with mortals. Connor had it written on a scrap of paper, held in his left hand while he had the flashlight in his right.

Finally, the now flickering beam of his flashlight illuminated the rune, etched into the trunk of a pine tree. He stepped into the small clearing and turned off his flashlight, thankful the moon shone bright enough here for him to see fairly well. Step one of the mission was complete. Connor shouldered off his backpack and exchanged his flashlight for a pen and leather bound journal.

What now? Connor wrote at the top of a new page. He clicked the top of his pen rythmically as he waited for the deity to respond.

It was a bit of a learning curve for me figuring out Gimp >~< So posts for this RP take me a bit, but I have a file saved with just the avatar and blank speech bubble that I can import backgrounds into and type the text for easily now!

Did you guys find an easier to use program though? :O

I haven't been able to respond IC yet because my weekend has been really busy. Sorry about that!

I watched about a season and a half of MHA a while back, but I love superpower RPs and have been itching to make a villain! As long as you won't mind helping me out with remembering the structure of the canon justice system and such I'd love to join you!
