Howdy there! I'm 19 and from Texas, though I'm currently going to college in New York. I've been roleplaying for quite a few years, and prefer casual or advanced roleplays. I'm pretty friendly, so if you want to drop me a message, go ahead. I'm not super-active unless I'm on break, but I'll always get to you when I can.
Ysolde had been out of the tower for a mere three weeks when she'd arrived in the small, idyllic border village of Mansford. It was a sleepy place, overlooked by a windmill perched on a short hill near where the houses stopped and rows of fields began. The young woman took it all in with a silent awe.
She'd passed through many such towns, but those had not exactly been sight-seeing visits. She'd pass through in the dead of night, only ever stopping long enough to eat and take a quick rest. When she was too concerned about those on her trail to do even that, she drew on the demon now inside her for extra stamina. Each time she did, she felt its presence in the back of her mind grow just a bit stronger. This did not worry her as much as it likely should have.
The day was bright and beautiful, and it coaxed her just enough out of her state of extreme caution for her to be able to, for the first time, truly enjoy her surroundings. Being on the border between the Oueendom of Maros and land owned by a loose confederation of city-states, Mansford clearly saw a lot of traffic. Few people looked at Ysolde twice, and those who did primarily did so out of concern more than anything else; to hide her inhuman eye color she wore a bandage that she'd bought a few towns before wrapped around her head.
The concept of 'buying' had been a new thing to her. She'd read about it in books, and listened with baited breath to Briar's descriptions of crowded markets after his first venture outside, but she'd never had need to purchase anything before. In the tower, everything was provided for you, with the understanding that you'd be doing the providing somewhere down the line. Mages on business out of the tower handled their own affairs, of course, but that had never been the case for Ysolde.
Following that line of thought, she frowned. The wistful feelings came creeping back. They prayed on her peace of mind. In her mind's eye, she saw moments like this as they were, according to her younger self, supposed to be; herself, a respected mage venturing out from the tower to do good and protect the innocent, her closest friend by her side... No, she stopped herself there, shaking her head as if it would shake those dreaded thoughts away. They had their choice, and so did he. They chose to deny me the arts I finally found myself to be skilled in. They'd have kept me in there my entire life if they could have. And he... The resentment and abandonment she harbored against him, fuel for the fire she'd been tending inside of herself, threatened to overwhelm her.
By now she was in the town proper. It was just before midday, and the main road that ran through the village was relatively busy. There were a few merchants' stalls lining it, and Ysolde distracted herself by taking an interest in the wares of a jewelry maker. She couldn't afford anything that he sold, having spent most of what money she'd scrounged up on her clothing; simple robes, with the outer layer a dull green and the inner layer, brown. They were something that might be seen on a bookkeeper, but never on a mage. They showed a preference for brighter colors even when not wearing the standard robes issued by the tower. She'd made sure to do always with all of those as soon as she could, of course, though she'd retained the more comfortable shoes until she realized that she could get money for them and buy a cheaper, more durable pair.
Seeing as how she was so close to the border, she felt more secure than she had in a long time. Though she was still rather on the antsy side, she allowed herself to glance at the stalls as she passed them by. To think of the marvels she'd be able to enjoy once she'd put just a few city-states between herself and any would be pursuers! Or, so she thought, It had yet to occur to her that fate would have other plans.
Name: Ysolde Westerlyn
Personality: Ambitious, studious, quick-tempered, bitter
Appearance: Ysolde has always been a young woman of a very unassuming appearance. A life spent indoors has resulted in her being rather pale, though her skin takes to tanning quite well when she's able to go outside. Her hair is dark brown and usually pulled back into a loose braid falling just past her shoulder blades. Though used to have light brown eyes, one of several physical changes as a result of her deal with the demon was her left eye turning an almost golden shade of yellow. The other main change was the series of runic tattoos running up and down her arms and legs. Though tall for a woman, standing at just under five foot eleven, she's on the slimmer side in build and generally rather unimposing. A cursory look at her would bring to mind a librarian or a scholar, not the powerful mage she has become.
Biography:
Ysolde was the youngest daughter of the Baron of Westerlyn, a relatively small, coastal barony known for the fish it exports. She had three older brothers, two older sisters and, eventually, a younger brother. Needless to say, her house was always a busy one. Her parents were loving, but distant, and Ysolde was often left to her own devices. As soon as she was old enough, she'd spend as much of her free time at the beach that was just a few minutes away from their family's keep. A few times a week she'd have lessons with her siblings, but she was generally considered unimportant enough that it didn't matter if she missed a few so that those children who were likely to be heirs could get more attention.
At the age of six, a travelling mage had come to their home to escape a bad storm. Her parents naturally offered him the best guest rooms they had; few places in the kingdom would offer any less to a mage. He ended up boarding with them for nearly a week. During that time, he took an interest in Ysolde, who was just happy to be the center of someone's attention for once. She showed him her books and favorite places, her talent with the lute and, eventually, her imaginary best friend. He was invisible to the eyes of everyone else, of course; the mage, however, saw him clear as day. She'd befriended a harmless ocean spirit, a type that was generally invisible to normal humans. Her magical talent revealed, he explained to her parents that he had no choice but to bring him back to the tower with him.
She only saw that man again a small handful of times, due to the nature of his business generally keeping him away from the tower. She started sleeping in a bunk room with some nineteen other girls near her in age. She attending magical theory lessons, and regular lessons like history.and math. Types like the latter two, she excelled at. The former, not so much. At that point she was a thin, shy girl with two long, easily pulled braids and large round glasses she couldn't see without. She was a natural target for bullying. It never got too bad, thanks to the intervention of instructors, but it was enough to make her first real friend seem like a godsend.
She adored him. She watched with a wide-eyed fascination when he completed spells far past those meant for their age group, was always full of earnest praise when he aced tests. She placed herself behind him when talking to strangers or people who made her uncomfortable, and cried to him when her family took too long in writing or when she felt incompetent in spell-casting. It was her secret aspiration to become strong enough to protect him one day, as she felt protected by him. She was motivated by a desire to keep up with him, that they could one day see the outside world that they so dreamed about, together.
Fate had something else in mind for the both of them, however. He only got farther ahead of their class, and she only fell further behind. She missed him and so often felt abandoned. That abandonment melded with her feelings of inadequacy and frustrations with herself, eventually turning to bitterness and anger. Much of it she pinned on him, because he was an easy person to blame despite not being a fault. She went from wanting to keep up with him to surpass him. All of the other mages as well, but mostly him. Her ambition and her dark feelings made it easy to turn towards darker forms of magic. When she found a way to finally make it outside and away from the circle, she hesitated only for a moment before charging towards freedom.
Captain, if you'd like, we can just say that Theo was shocked into silence and I can post again. Not that I'm hurrying you or anything, it's just that I know how sucky it feels when you're the one holding things up; that way, you'd have another round of posts to start composing your own. If you'd rather not, that's completely alright, it was just a thought.
Ax was always my absolute favorite character. I always found reading him thoroughly enjoyable; it's one of the reasons that I wanted to play an andalite character. I really liked Rachel, too, because she was unique from most characters I'd read as a kid. I liked Tobias, but his angsting could get on my nerves sometimes. Marco was great, Jake was usually really boring to me, and I went back and forth on Cassie. I liked her at first, but I hated how she kept up bringing moral issues that were really non-issues. That was mostly a ghost writer thing, though.
Also, I loved the Pemalites. They were really rad to me.
Hey, all! I'm on the lookout for a few new casual-advanced RPs, and was hoping that some of you lovely people may be interested! The following are a few ideas that I had in mind. Feel free to message me or post here if you'd like to do one, if you'd like some more information on any, or if you have an idea of your own that you'd like to do with me.
1. Sci-fi, Action, Dystopian Note: Character genders were assigned just for the sake of explanation; I'd be happy to play either role. This could also be a FxF or MxM, or even a small group RP. There is no more pain. No more poverty. Nobody goes hungry, no child goes without proper education, and the only way that a good, law-abiding citizen dies is old and comfortable in their bed. Or so they would have you believe. In New Haven, supposedly the last human city after WWIII ended with the launching of five nuclear missiles several times those that bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a huge metropolis more than a mile above the Earth's decimated and unlivable surface, corruption is rampant, and not all is as it appears.
But citizen B-8436111205 -referred to by friends and family with his given name, but to the government only by this number- neither knew nor cared of this corruption at our story's start. He was twelve, living a comfortable life in the city's inner ring. Though not surrounded by the decadence of the inner circle where A-citizens lived, he wanted for nothing. Until the day his life changed forever. Until the day he got wrapped up with a young fugitive girl. He helped nurse her mysterious wounds and tried to hide her from her pursuers. When they were discovered, the girl was dragged away, and he was sure that he'd never see her again. For his trouble, he and his immediate family were demoted to C-citizens; a class of menial workers who live in cramped homes in the outer ring of the city.
That might have been the end of it. He might have been better off if it had. But at age seventeen, they met again; at a party, of all places. Some new friends had dragged him to an A-citizen masquerade party, to which they may or may not have actually been invited to. In a blacklit room with pulsing music, he saw her. They exchanged a few words, and he followed her outside. Moments after, the high rise building came crashing down. Their third encounter, where things really pick up, happened five years later. One late night, on his way home from work, he was nearly arrested by a mysterious group. He ran, and ran, but eventually came to the huge peak that separated the inner and outer circle. And, when gunshots rang out, he jumped. (Or fell.)
He thought for sure that he was going to die. But he thought wrong. The mysterious girl, more a woman now, finally returned the favor, but this time, he can't go home again. Whether he likes it or not, he's bound to this practical stranger and her mission; bring New Haven toppling down.
2. Slice-of-Life, Romance, Comedy, Supernatural Note: I'd prefer to play the vampire, and for it to be either a FxM or FxF. Inspired by the anime Karin (Chibi Vampire). Moving is hard, especially for teenagers, and especially when you're moving to a small town where everybody seems to know everybody. North Hillshire High's newest student is the talk of the school, if only because of his newness. Whether he loves the attention or loathes it, it's undeniably there. Some is negative, as to be expected, but most people just seemed honestly interested in befriending him. Among these was Charlotte, a girl who seemed sweet and welcoming, who walked home in the same direction as he, and even had a part time job in the same location he'd just been employed at. For the first two days, it seemed like he'd made a new friend. But on the third, after an odd encounter in an empty classroom, she started actively avoiding him.
Perplexed, he tried to figure out the reason, but she went to crazy lengths to avoid any semblance of a conversation. When he finally found her alone, the reason soon became apparent. She attacked him. He realized the truth; she was a vampire. A vampire with no super strength, speed, or senses, and no weakness for sunlight or crosses or anything that you'd expect from the myths, save for the need to consume human blood in the place of normal food. Her family, however, were all as traditional as it got, and they were none too pleased with his discovering her secret. But, much to their displeasure, they found that he was impervious to their usual mind erasing techniques. Eventually, he was offered a choice. Swear not to tell a soul, and to help her protect her secret from others, or die.
Despite this somewhat dramatic opening, the RP will tell the story of two mostly normal teenagers as they deal with school, family issues, and the occasional insane vampire hunter and/or teenage supernatural fanatic.
3. Fantasy, Adventure, Drama, Action Note: Could also be an FxF or MxM. I'd be willing to play either role, though in MxF I prefer female. Could also be made into a small group RP, maybe after a while of being a 1x1. In the kingdom of Maros, any child who shows potential for a magic ability is taken away from their family and to the Mage's Keep in the sprawling capital city. There, they are taught their craft. And they're not allowed to leave until they've passed numerous safety exams and observational periods; most are twenty or more before they leave the tower again.
Our characters were both brought in at a very young age, from near-opposite sides of the kingdom. When they were young, the development of their friendship was natural for both of them, each seeking out the other above the fifty or so other students in the keep almost out of instinct. But that was when they were young. As they grew into their teens, one proved to be a prodigy. He was made a full-fledged mage at only fifteen, the youngest in history. When he came back he described to her, in vivid terms, the city they'd only seen from afar since childhood. And she was spellbound, motivated to work all the harder to catch up with him.
However, no matter how hard she worked, it seemed that she simply lacked the talent to be an extraordinary, or even average, mage. The two steadily grew apart after that. He, especially, seemed to try his best to maintain their relationship, but grew busy with preparations to join the Keep's top enforcers, a group dedicated to suppressing their own errant kind. She grew distant. Her envy and resentment grew increasingly obvious with every meeting. Their contact ceased.
In their time apart, she studied, and studied, and studied, pouring over ancient books and scrolls. She eventually found a magic that she was good at. A dark magic, that involved summonings, rituals, and oaths written in blood. And using it, she found her own way out of the Keep, by blowing a whole straight through it. His first mission as an enforcer was to retrieve her. He thought that it would be an easy task; he was clearly the superior mage. But when he finally caught up to her, he found her in a worse state than he'd feared. She'd bound a demon from the other world to do her bidding and supplement her strength. But, as they fought, she inadvertently released dozens more into their world.
Because of their old friendship, a belief that she needed to fix her own mistake, or some other motivation entirely, he does not kill her. Instead, he decides to help her destroy the demons himself. Our RP will follow their adventures together across a fantastical and dangerous land, and their quest to defeat the creatures with the potential to destroy the entire kingdom.
4. Slice-of-Life, Romance, Comedy, Drama Note: These are a bunch of modern ideas that I came up with. Take your pick, they can also be mixed and matched pretty easily. Most of these can be MxF or FxF, though I'd generally like for the roles to stay the same.
-My first plot idea has our characters as childhood friends. They shared everything together, so it was only natural that, one fateful day in middle school, they'd share their first kiss. That would also be the last time they saw each other, as one family would abruptly move the day after. They meet again when one posts an an ad looking for a roommate, and the other character responds. Both have changed, though, and not necessarily for the better.
-My next two both have a somewhat similar setup. In both our characters were high school sweethearts, the type that anyone would swear up and down would be together forever. Though they came from the 'opposite sides of the tracks,' so to speak, the disparity between their social classes never really mattered to them.
In the first of these two, my character was the wealthy one. Towards the end of the summer of their senior year, the night that your character was planning to propose, my character abruptly breaks it off. She refuses to see yours or speak with him again, and goes off to college without a word to him. Through mutual friends he hears talk of her success in her schooling, her new rich and handsome boyfriend, and basically that her life was going perfectly. Then, several years later, he comes home one day to find that she's moved into the apartment next to his. The next day at work, he even finds that they're co-workers! She swears it's a coincidence, and indeed, fate does seem determined to bring them together.
For the next, your character was the wealthy one. This could take place during their college years or beyond, according to your preference. They're dating, or engaged, and very happy with each other, but a freak accident in which your character tries to protect mine ends with him ending up in the hospital and losing his memory. Some things he does vaguely remember; his parents, for example, and their hometown. But he completely forgets about my character and, what's more, his parents never really approved of their relationship in the first place. So your character must struggle to regain his memories while mine tries to make sure that he doesn't forget her, or start a new relationship with one of the various young women his parents do approve of.
-In this idea, your character is returning to the hometown that he always despised growing up. A little slice of suburbia that never truly grew much past the fifties, it was always very much the town where everybody was in each other's business, gossiped about those who didn't toe the strict lines of acceptable social behavior, and found ways to judge those who did. He is only coming back for his brother's impending nuptials. Of course, a town of its size would not have an airport, so he flew into a larger city an hour or so away. He stayed there a night, hitting a bar, where he meets my character. They have instant chemistry. A few drinks in, mine laments her loveless relationship and the suspected infidelity of her fiance. Yours complains of his own series of unfortunate relationships and/or lack thereof. One thing leads to another, and they wake up together in his hotel room the next morning. My character freaks out and leaves. Yours heads home later that day to find that, and I'm sure that you didn't see this coming, my character is engaged to your character's brother. Drama! Romance! Once/if they run away together, even more crazy drama-romance-things!
I'd also be interested in an RP having to do with... -Dragon Age (Warden x Warden with different background, mage x templar, OC x OC) -Mass Effect (Shepard x OC, Asari, female Quarian, or female Turian x Human in an AU where humans are only just making first contact, OC x OC) -DC universe -Attack on Titan (OC x OC, or your canons of preference) -Naruto (OC x OC, or your canons of preference; I'm totally down for playing almost any of the main female characters across from either a canon or OC. Next-gen would also be fun to play with) -Harry Potter (OC x OC) -Assassin's Creed (I have played all of the games up to Black Flag, which I'm about a third of the way through) -Twilight (I dislike the series, but I like using the universe while acknowledging the problems with it, if that makes sense; the two main characters of the books are presented as superficial, selfish, and melodramatic, for example. Anyways, I had an idea for Leah x OC)
As more people arrived, Sahara became increasingly uncomfortable, and more and more grateful that she was in the corner of the room. In came yet another young man, this one with striking eyes and brightly colored clothing. He wore a backpack, and an odd implement on his back very nearly resembling the shape of a sword, though it was wrapped and thus impossible to tell for certain. Certainly such a weapon would not be allowed in a public place like, though, particularly not a hospital. This man was quiet, and seemed almost as uneasy as herself about being there. She empathized for him.
Next came a tiny girl who walked with the assistance of a pair of crutches. One of her legs was in a cast; did she know Dallas? Or was she a patient from the next room whom they'd bothered? Though she didn't know the others, Sahara felt somehow responsible for their noise and immediately wanted to apologize if their noise had annoyed her, perhaps offering a few of her homemade cookies in reparations... But the girl with the bright red hair -who now seemed older than Sahara had assumed at first glance- did not complain. In fact, she didn't say anything.
The short silence that followed was a shaking noise that drew Sahara's gaze to the bed before her. Her eyes widened as Dallas' leg began to spasm. She was very well read in medical texts, and she knew that such spasming could indicate all sorts of awful things. She looked around, expecting someone to call a nurse or something of the sort. But most seemed to just stare, as she was doing. Finally, the writhing stopped. Dallas smiled a genuine smile, a rare thing indeed, and looked around silently on them. Though one might expect all sorts of commotion in reaction to this turn of events, the silence continued until one of the men interrupted it with an odd remark. A girl addressed him directly in a friendly, joking sort of manner before retreating. Another of the girls, one of the younger members of the group, made a comment that seemed entirely inappropriate given that that Dallas' mother was present.
Sahara looked away from the newly awoken boy as his mother began speaking to him in a quiet one. In doing so, she noticed one of the others there looking very closely at the cookies that she brought and, figuring that they were a present to him as well if were a friend of Dallas, she held them out to him without looking him in the eye. The quiet sort, she wouldn't voice her concerns to these strangers, but the young woman was very concerned about how suddenly he had woken, and how fine he seemed now. An act of God, perhaps? Stranger things had happened. Still... It filled her with unease, in a way that no miracle should.
