A long time ago there was a girl who was born into poverty, as a baby she was fed the minimal amount to survive, and as she grew into her childhood she became too expensive for her parents to keep around, so they abandoned her within nearby a nearby. Though this did not make the girl sad, her old home was a dark and morbid place with constant screaming and fighting, and the forest she found berries and nuts for food even a cave to sleep in. It rained that night and a lone white rabbit approached the mouth of the cave, it was wet and cold, so the pure girl rushed to bring the rabbit inside. Using her clothes to dry it off and wrap it up, the rabbit finally spoke. "You are a kind child, the kindest I have seen in many years." The girl happy rather than frightened replied. "I am not kind, I am simply helping the forest that helped me." Appreciating the girl's words, the rabbit spoke again. "I would like to offer you my powers in return for your help, as a gift of gratitude." The small girl who did not understand this at first smiled accepted, and the rabbit disappeared, though, a small rabbit's foot necklace appeared around her neck. Accepting the rabbit's gift, the girl fell asleep that night to the sound of the rain.
When she awoke, she had not been where she fell asleep, it was a large luxurious room with fine silks and furs decorating every corner. A nearby door opened revealing a young woman who rushed in and hugged the girl. "That such a cute girl would be abandoned in the forest is too horrid to thank about, you will live with me from now young girl." The woman said, claiming to be her new mother. Accepting this as the gift the rabbit had given, she smiled at the thought of a new family and accepted it with a big smile.
Over time the girl grew older and wiser, she was a woman now and was known as 'The Luckiest Woman Alive". She used her luck assisting people and solving their problems, and thus people began to envy her. Though one day, her new mother approached her. "My daughter, our prosperous fortune seems to be dwindling. And I would like your help." The girl who was grateful to this woman for taking her in responded immediately. "How can I help you mother?" She asked as the now elderly woman escorted her to a small building near the outskirts of town. When they entered it, two men were playing dice and money moved throughout the room faster than her eye could see. The new mother looked to her and said "I will give you the amount needed to win back my fortune, but please bring back twice as much."
The elderly woman left, and the girl approached the table where the men played dice. She was against an elderly man who seemed to be in rags and scraps, he looked at the girl with curious eyes but then returned to the dice. They played a few rounds and the girl won every match, the man did not seem sad though and smiled at the girl. "You look a lot like my daughter." The man said this and then died right before her, this distressed her very much. After giving the earning to her new mother, the girl did not hear from her again, soon she fell into depression. She used her luck to gamble becoming very rich, thinking this would make her happy, but it did not, and soon she was hated by the people she once helped for her gift.
Soon after she was exiled from the town, and she returned to the forest she had once forgotten about. The memories of her childhood came rushing back, the berries for food, the cave for shelter. She wandered aimlessly until she found that cave, She ran inside exciting hoping to see her rabbit friends once again, though suddenly the ground began to shake, and stones fell from the mouth of the save closing it off. Her necklace began to glow and the rabbit appeared once again.
The girl said to her former friend frantic and scared. "Rabbit, I will die if you don't return my luck."
The rabbit looked away, giving off a saddening aura. "I never gave you any."
The girl frowned in response to her friend, and in return the rabbit continued his speech. "Ever since you were born, you have been a lucky girl. Escaping your home and coming to this forest, you could have lived here alone happily your entire life."
The girl seemed even more confused. "I don't understand rabbit, I thought this was a gift of gratitude?"
The rabbit approached the girl and with somber words he apologized. "I am sorry, I deceived you. That charm has siphoned your luck to me every since you were young. The woman who adopted you knew of your abilities and used you to expand her influence and then cast you aside. Your father who searched so desperately for you after your abandonment dies after finally seeing you. And your ability causing you to be hated. And now finally here, you have finally lost all of your luck. I truly am sorry, because of you my family has flourished beyond this forest and in turn we will carry on your name Yuuen. Goodbye." The rabbit hopped away from the girl, escaping the cave through a small hole at the entrance.
And in the cave where she thought her life began, it ended.
Thus is the story of Yuuen, the Unlucky One.
