Welcome to the Guild! :)
It wasn’t long before the sounds of ringing steels and shouts and curses drifted down from the deck—Danica’s instincts had been correct. Someone had come to reclaim the merchant’s goods, but the bandits weren’t going down without a fight. At the moment, she had no way of telling how many opponents there were, or even who they were. Was it a contingent of guards? Ten men, maybe? Dani could not imagine that the city had sent too many of them. The goods and ship they had stolen may have been valuable, but surely not important enough to warrant the attention of a whole army. The snatches of conversation that reached her failed to give her any clues, but the cries of pain from familiar voices made her wonder if things were under control.

The bandit leader had already gone out to confront their assailants, so it was left to Danica to hide and wait for action to come to her. The Naga backed into a corner, taking advantage of the limited light and augmenting her natural talent for stealth with her shadow magic. It was just as well that she hid, for soon enough someone entered the cabin she was in. And by entered, she meant he barreled into the room, falling down the stairs and ending up in a muddled heap at the bottom. Dani palmed her knife, silently watching him stumble to his feet, noting in surprise that he was just a kid. Well, she amended, he couldn’t be much younger than her, and he was even a few inches taller, but she had been expecting someone much older. This Muran couldn’t be a member of the city guard, and he certainly wasn’t dressed for the part.

It didn’t seem like any of his friends were going to follow him down here, considering his involuntary grand entrance, and he was still recovering from his fall; Danica saw her opening and took it. She exploded out of the shadows in front of her adversary, appearing in a blur of motion as she slammed into him and drove him into the opposite wall. There she pinned him down with an arm, conscious of the tiny amount of space between their bodies as she held her weapon up to his face. He was bleeding from some cuts on his cheek, and overall had the battered and bruised look of one that has been in battle. Clearly her allies had given as good as they’d got. The look on her victim’s face made her laugh—she was going to enjoy this.

“What’s the matter, little Muran? Lost?” Danica simpered as she pressed her knife up against the man’s throat, leaving some space between the blade and his skin. Their faces inches apart, she locked her startling yellow eyes with his, having to tilt her head back slightly to meet his gaze. The minor height difference clearly didn’t bother her as her lips curved into a deadly smile, snakelike fangs on display. “Say, you’re a cute one… Shame I have to kill you.”
@AngelKitten

Stop lurking and say hello already silly. I'm not going to bite - or vanish - this time around :)

Ha, you caught me. Hi everyone c:
In a cabin of the Aube Doré, Danica sat on the bed, clearly at ease as she leaned back with her legs loosely crossed and her arms propping her up behind her. The distant sounds of men calling to one another reached her as they unloaded the cargo from the ship. Over the years, Danica had developed an eye for hefty pockets and fine goods, and she knew exactly how valuable the expensive cloths and liquor aboard the ship were. A fine haul indeed. For some reason, they saw fit to keep her down here at the moment, so she lounged around as she waited for something to happen. She couldn’t say she minded too much; the bed was comfortable enough and patience was something she had plenty of. After all, a thief who couldn’t bide her time to strike at the opportune moment was a dead one, or at least very poor. Not to mention that she didn’t have to help with carrying all those heavy crates around like the others on deck did. What a relief.

The sound of approaching footsteps made her look up as the bandit leader crossed the room to stand before her. She felt a slight flash of irritation as he reached down to pull her up, calling her “Naga” instead of addressing her by name, but she hid the sentiment flawlessly—after all, she was used to it, and she was used to keeping up quite a charming façade. With that in mind, she allowed the man to take her hand and rose smoothly to her feet, meeting his gaze with a sly smile. “Oh, don’t worry. You’ll get your money’s worth out of me,” she assured him, her eyes flashing dangerously as her mind raced, already planning her moves and strategy. She worked better in the dark, and the dim lighting of the hold would provide her with plenty of opportunity to strike from the shadows—literally. “Take care who you send down. Wouldn’t want them to get in my way,” she couldn’t resist adding. While she could use the support reinforcements would provide, Dani regardless had a habit of running her mouth even when it might not prove to her advantage.

She drew her knife, observing its keen edge before carefully returning the blade to its sheath. Her bow and quiver were with her, but there wouldn’t be much use for archery down here. Nevertheless, it seemed safer to keep them on her person, especially since her arrows were… “enhanced”. It would require a lot of effort to replace all the toxins on new arrowheads if she were to lose her current stock. Her natural venom was always a useful weapon, even if she couldn’t exactly bite through armor to get to a vital point. Still, she had enough to weaken her opponent and give her an advantage, at least temporarily. Rumors abounded in the cities that older Naga had venom potent enough to kill a grown Dimuran warrior with a single drop, but Danica highly doubted that was accurate. Maybe there was a grain of truth in there somewhere, but there was no way of knowing considering the average lifespan of most Naga living in foreign cities, and how reclusive they were. Maybe she would find out if she ever grew old enough, but she doubted that would ever happen either.

She was already dressed in full armor, of course. Considering they were floating in a river in the middle of nowhere with stolen goods, it wouldn’t do to be caught unawares without battle gear. Satisfied that she was ready for combat, Danica locked her hands together, lifting her arms above her head in a long stretch as she bounced lightly on the balls of her feet. She was already anticipating the rush of battle. Sure, there might be nothing out there and they could pull off the operation without a hitch, but experience had taught her to always be prepared, no matter what. So the Magi would wait belowdecks, melting into the shadows at the first sign of trouble with her knife in her hand.
I tried to get myself to write since my last post but it just wasn't in the cards with my current schedule. So I'd be interested in a reboot but I'll consider joining after I see what else is on my plate for a while.
All right, I could get another post up before long.
In a medium-sized ship on a large river, the mood was celebratory as a small group of men and women caroused on the deck, drinking and talking and generally having a good time. Danica sat cross-legged on a crate, her knife lying sheathed in her lap. There was a faint smirk on her features as she surveyed the bandits around her. She wasn’t engaged in conversation at the moment, and while the others had grown more comfortable with her in the time she’d spent with them, the Naga was often left to her own devices when they weren’t pulling off a job. Some of them, including the leader, showed a wary respect when interacting with her—maybe they didn’t consider her one of them, but at least they trusted her and her abilities enough to hire her. And some of the others seemed to think that her race brought some sort of divine luck to their criminal activities; Dani had heard them whispering to each other when they thought she was asleep. The thought gave her some amusement and she’d never bothered to correct their ignorance. If they were more in awe of her because of some imagined ability, it would only give her an advantage.

Danica leaned back thoughtfully. Taking the ship had been no minor affair, and maybe after this haul she would have enough to comfortably take off and spend some time on her own. She didn’t mind lingering with the group, but she was used to the anonymity of living in a city, just another face in the crowd. On the other hand, out here among the bandits she didn’t have to hide all the time, nor wear her mask, since they all knew who she was. Although she noticed that without her mask on, most people tended not to make eye contact with her when holding conversation. Danica found it made her feel strangely detached from everyone around her. Of course, that’s generally how she was.

A raucous laugh nearby pulled the Magi out of her thoughts and she looked over to where three of the men were talking nearby. She tilted her head in a considering gesture. Today they were celebrating, and Dani could afford to unwind a little bit before whatever awaited her on the horizon. With a grin that showed off her fang teeth, she hopped off the crate and joined her companions in their banter.
I'll wait for AngelKitten to post before I do!

Go ahead! My character is somewhere else so my post wouldn't be any different. :)
