Just remember this setting is modern, so there wouldn't be a blacksmith in the town. So in terms of an occupation, think of modern day stuff. Sorry if this changes the way you wanted to play your character.

Sightings have been noted every Friday night at about midnight, activity takes place in the church. Flickering lights and strange chanting can be heard. Curiosity got the best of a young boy by the name of Alex Hurley, and he came to authorities saying he saw people walking out the back of the church into the woods one particular night. He mentions they were fully robed in dark cloaks with hoods and that there was someone leading then carrying a big wooden staff. He notes that he followed them into the woods a it, but couldn't totally make out what it was they were doing. Alex says he went into the spot in the woods the next day in daylight and could make out a clearing with symbols drawn in the dirt, which he says resemble something of Satan

Welcome to Hartwick, a town based on community. A town where everyone knows everyone else and their business, at least on the surface. Hartwick is a seemingly normal small town, with a church, a police station and a strip mall consisting of a grocery store, a liquor store, a pharmacy, a florist, a bar and an antique store that appeared almost overnight.
Upon this antique store appearing, things began happening in Hartwick, that had people concerned. Florist owner Edna Violetta wound up dead one morning in her shop. Cause of death, her plants came alive and strangled her to death. No one totally believed this to be true, but there was claims that they found a plant that was still alive, but as far as that goes no one, but police officers and chief Hardy had ever saw the plant.
Other things have been happening and people have claimed to see shadow creatures. Shadow creatures associated with death. One resident even described them as the vehicles which carry out death's dirty deeds. He claims he saw one creature slide over the sign of the liquor store and then watched as it fell, killing an innocent person who walked by the store. Again, no one believes this because no one can see them or so everyone thinks.

The owner of the antique store, a Mr. Arthur Jenkins, has no recollection of setting up shop nor even where he is. He also notes that he started selling items which he has no idea how they appeared there either. Such items include artifacts and weird statues and nicknacks which do not resemble anything he's ever seen before.
Then one day Old lady Beatrice Winder went to go pray at the church. When she came out of the church, she had looked as if she had seen a ghost. She told authorities, that she saw a bright light and Jesus came down and spoke to her telling her that this town was bad news.
Bad news or not this is the town in which you live. You are a resident of Hartwick and have become aware of the strange occourances which have been happening. You want to know more and this is where the RP takes place. You will play as a resident, who will be discovering there's more than meets the eye in this town.
BTW, I've taken the inspiration and formatting from the podcast "Welcome to Nightvale", but i've made it my own .
