Well I'm one that's shifting more to the camp that the cyber world might play a greater impact on the conflict field than nuclear weapons or even conventional warfare. Physical damage won't be so much wrought with bombs, but through abuse of the internationally connected world. In the sort of environment when US and Isreali black-hats can hack and shut down Iranian nuclear test reactors, then it's actually not impossible for non-state groups or others to do the same back; considering that a lot of these cyber contractors probably were at one point "criminal" individuals hacking for self benefit or for shits and giggles.

So on that level there's maybe two ways to go about things as a self defense. Rigorous and draconian censorship, or Stasi level self-moderation within the community (which someone accused a TED speaker of promoting in comments).

The potential of cyber warfare is interesting and ignored. Non-state groups now have the same tools as global powers today by abusing Google Maps to pick up Sat Nav maps of regions, and there's even phone apps that track the movements and whereabouts of airplanes. And with the use of Tor/The Onion Browser you can achieve basically complete anonymity and encryption the military would have once only enjoyed.

So if I was scripty enough and maybe had enough bitcoin I could maybe organize an attack on someone's server and take it over.

Funny you mention that. One of my future scenarios involved a one world government formed after a global cyber war between multiple factions of international political machines in a world where nation states are far more fluid.

Whoever controls the machines, controls the world.

It sounds insane, but I figure quantum computers may actually make this scenario a possibility. Of course this also requires every government on Earth thinking that a global net with quantum computing based infrastructure is a good idea. Which it isn't and with governments like China's out there, good luck eroding the nation state for now.

They have bristly hair that covers their main body, but not their head and limbs.

24 digits total, yes. They can combine the sub limbs to make a manipulator.

First contact? I suppose that's one way of wording it.
The wealth disparity is just so insane. How is anything going to flow if you have wealthy individuals who avoid spending or allow for deficits? Money is supposed to cycle and damming up the flow of money in a consumer economy is just dysfunctional. Consuming is just dangerous.
Hot wars?

Have US troops directly engaged Russian troops in Ukraine?

WW2 or WW1 were hot wars. Going to war with terrorist groups isn't really a hot war anymore than anything that happened during the Cold War.

If anything, the world's still relatively more peaceful than during the cold war even with the tensions that are going on. It's just that the middle east is a massive disaster.

Name: The Natvyr

Phenotype: The natvyr are mammalian hexapods, with a coat of dense and bristly hair. This hair only covers the body, with their head and limbs having only a slight fuzz. Their head had been compared to a goat skull, with hard chitin-like jaw mandibles and perfectly circular eyes with only a pinpoint pupil with a hard greyish corona. They are extremely pale when it comes to skin, yet their hair has vibrant shades of violet, cobalt and magenta. Their front and back limbs are legs while their center limbs are arms. Their limbs in general are fractal in nature, with their joints splitting into two smaller sets of forelimbs. These two smaller sets of forelimbs have bendable joints at their ends split into four "fingers". Those bend multiple times and fulfill hand-like functions. Their front and back limbs are less capable of precise manipulation than their middle limbs, which pretty much defy all the theories on centuarization (the idea that front limbs become manipulators no matter how many legs, a belief that came about from looking at mantids too long- than again the natvyr body structure has few equivalents on Earth) since the middle limbs became more specialized for manipulation instead of their front limbs.

The natvyr have three castes. Workers, Queens and Drones. Queens tend to be extremely bloated and stationary in appearance, usually growing to large sizes and lack any of the gracile features commonly associated with the Natvyr. Drones tend to look much like workers, except that they are somewhat bulkier by design with enlarged middle limbs and weaker front/back limbs, meaning they use for limbs as hands and two limbs as legs. Drones can breed with both queens and workers and are "male" biologically while the workers and queens are "female" biologically.

The natvyr can't vocalize human languages as their language is based more in a spectrum of clacks, shrills, zeeps and clicks.

The natvyr are a r-type species and tend to be extremely numerous.

Natvyr start out as limbless balls of fur which which nourished (usually with other natvyr larvae or corpses of prey animals) develop into a drone, worker or queen. The natvyr give live birth, but with such small larae giving birth is piss easy for them, which is good since the natvyr keep making more natvyr. A natvyr hive can have thousands of queens, of whom give birth to a hundred natvyr a day on average. Workers tend to give birth once every four days if impregnated by a drone.

Psychology: Natvyr psychology is a enigma. They all refer to each other by the same name, of which seems to "evolve" instead of be assigned by anymone; the names of hives tend to be the names they give whenever anyone mentions the concept of a name to them. Worker natvyr are generally simple minded, but all too frequently there is mental instabilities and oddities in their psyche where single minded obsessions take over and they just want to build the same hallway again and again. The natvyr seem to learn by intuition and collective learning, in that they have a habit of copying everything they observe. If they observe a sky scraper, they'll keep trying to make a sky scraper and are surprisingly effecient copiers, give them a blue print legible to them (this is the hard part) and enough time/resources and they can be quite pin point in their accuracy.

Drone natvyr tend to be more intelligible, but still are far all. They are pretty much have been characterized as amoral and sex obsessed by anyone who has met one, but it is these traits that allow them to ensure rapid reproduction for the hive as a hole. One drone is usually forced to be a "king" for the queen natvyr.

Queen natvyr are around as cognitive as drones and despite being called queens do not seem to have much control over anything. The queen is fairly oblivious to the hive around her and just goes with whatever is needed. Frequent reproduction is the sole cause, that is the purpose of the queen. Communicating with a queen is impossible, no natvyr wants you to speak with the queen. Only speak with a drone that knows something on your culture. No one else.

Story: The natvyr are an accident. They lived on a ancient world that was colonized by another society at the time which in time the natvyr mimicked, allowing them to build spaceships and go to space. From there, the natvyr made more hives on many worlds and have been a pestilence since. The natvyr learned to trade their babies for refined materials, which is no issue since there will be more babies. There's always more natvyr.

Extra: Just NPCs. I may make a character for this RP.
@Palamon
