@BrassOtter You can have gray if you want! I was actually deliberating both red and gray when I started so it's no thing.

Also, I feel that. To be honest like, I feel like any time I write a character he/she/they are usually really shitty when I first start writing them. It isn't until I've made a post or two that I've really gotten a good handle on them and what they're like, how to write their dialogue ect. Then I'll go back like, maybe a month later and look at their profile and be like "uh, no. This is wrong, this needs added, this needs expanded upon."

I'm always editing everything it's such a crisis. Like, until I'm right where I need to be with a character I will just be perpetually embarrassed about my posts and just drown in the shame.

Not sure what that says about ME as a writer roleplayer, but I guess everyone is a little different. That's why I'm like, so blown away by you guys because you come in and I'm like "oh shit, look at these characters they're amazing you really know your character's shit woweee". Because that's just not something I'm good at. Like. I need that warm up period before I really get them.

If I were smart I would try writing a few drabbles before I put characters out there but? Sometimes you make a character FOR an RP specifically, so it's like. Well fuck me I guess we're running with this.

Also, sorry for the wall of taxt.

You’re walking to your home after a long day’s work. It’s rather late, but it isn’t quite dark yet. The sun has just begun to set, leaving an amber glow over the sides of buildings, washing the windows of apartments a vibrant orange. The sounds of trains leaving the city echo, nearly drowning out the sounds of footsteps racing down the street and children laughing. For a moment it sounds like a normal scenario of yelling and play, but after a moment you notice something a bit off. One is crying. The laughter only seems to increase at that. It looks like your neighborhood isn’t free of bullying, either.

“I heard your mom dances in that night club in the shady part of town! My dad said that he saw her when he was there!” one of the children jeer, their voice a bit smug.

“I don’t care- Leave me alone!”

“Wow, I bet you must be really embarrassed. I would be if my mom did something like that.”

“It’s really sad. I bet the only reason she does that is because you’re a lot to handle. Aren’t you going to a fancy private school?”

“That’s not-“

“Wooow. I bet she would have been better off if she hadn’t had you. At least she wouldn’t have to dance for money. Maybe you should just do her a favor and run away.”

“Oh! Maybe you should just die.”

“Yeah, wouldn’t it be better that way?”

The scene goes silent as soon as you step into your view. Even if you hadn’t meant to intrude on their tormenting, it’s the only clear path towards your home. The group of older children who had been teasing the small boy who, hasn’t seemed to notice you through his tears, freeze.

“W…Well maybe I will!” the littlest one screams, standing up quickly and running down the road. The other children scatter, running down the alleys before you can properly reprimand any of them. From far away you can see the distressed boy take a turn down to the left. If memory serves you correctly, that path is the one that leads to the forest on the outskirts of town. Even when you were a child it had been rumored to be a place where people would often go to die. It had gotten so bad in recent years that a wooden sign was erected, urging people to turn back and to have hope. As you pass that intersection, you see the sign has not deterred him from running in.

Even if he doesn’t go through with his plan, it is increasingly dangerous. Rumor has it that the forest is thick enough that it is incredibly easy to become lost once entering should you go off the trail. There is at least another half hour of daylight to work with, but even during the day it would be hard for someone that young to navigate. Let alone what he may find should he wander off the trail. There were people who routinely collected the bodies of the deceased, however…

You should go after him.

Your grandfather manages to walk quite a ways ahead of you, surprisingly fast for someone with such old bones. By the time you manage to spot him, you notice he’s already made his way halfway up the hill leading to the end of residential sector. It’s a long trek up there and there is no good reason for him to be as fast as he is. Just another day in the life. Good thing you have long legs to keep up with him.

At this time of night there’s usually an eerie silence that covers the area. You can’t hear the echoes of trains running along their tracks that usually clue you into any signs of life. The only thing to break the stillness of the night is the steady stream of icy rain that has begun to fall. It doesn’t seem to hinder your grandfather much, however. By the time you manage to catch up with him, it’s apparent where you’re headed. The stepped path leading up into the forest along the edges of town looks slick and, if he’s as determined as he looks to enter then you really had best go along. With the freezing rain they would be slick with ice; a perfect recipe for broken bones which were well past the age of healing.

“Now don’t try to stop me, boy. I don’t have time nor the money to be getting a new ID or to cancel my credit cards,” he says, grumbling as he moves up the staircase and into the forest which you recall, is rumored to be haunted due to the large number of people who tend to use it as a place to commit suicide. This doesn’t seem to put your grandfather off one bit. However, it is… concerning that he decided to visit a place like this, though, especially without telling you about it. There were some people who were afraid to talk about this forest, believing that they would be cursed if they gossiped about it.

Ever persistent, he opens the umbrella he had grabbed from the door, determined to walk into the darkness with or without you.

With no streetlights, it’s hard to see much of anything until your eyes adjust. Before you can really make out much of anything, even if you wanted to, there are spots in your vision. For just a moment it looks as there’s a pulsing glow right beside your grandfather’s heart. It disappears right as soon as you notice it, and long before he does. Over the hill of vinelike tendrils you can see the same blue speck appear and fade, just once. Cracking sounds echo through the woods, likely the sound of an animal meandering on through. It continues however, a distant snap ringing from far away.
