This sounds amazing. This has always been one of my absolute favorite periods of history (actually I'm taking a class on the artistic styles of the Mediterranean in Late Antiquity to the Islamic Conquests this coming semester, pretty hype), and I'm glad to see that it's being covered in an NRP.

I have no clue where to even begin in terms of making an NS or characters but I love the concept.

Actually, on second thought, playing a character in pre-Islamic Persia would be amazing, as would a Cuman or some of the steppe peoples. Zoroastrianism, Manicheanism, Tengriism, oh my! Persia will always be my favorite forever and always.
I like your CS! That definitely gave me some inspiration.

I'm thinking of running a micro-Basque resistance state with a base in the Pyrenees---does that sound good to you @Darkmatter? And would anyone be interested in joining?

I'm off for the next three days so expect to see something from me up here; I need to use my time wisely!
@Darkmatter

Love the world-building going on here!

Question(s): Will we as players be playing within a specific nation? If not, how will we link our stories together? What kind of ROBOTS will we be using? And are we allowed to submit multiple characters?

I think it'd be interesting to play as a character within the Imperium (or the Alliance), like a Viscount or Duke, even a Rook, as well as an unaffiliated/rebel character, if that's possible.

I do however love the idea of it being a hybrid-NRP. I think that if we get enough people doing it that way would expand the sense of scale.

Also

"Having conceded that its veiled threats to assault American soil were being diminished as the Empire's reach grew, the dictatorship decided to shake its phallus at everyone else."

I chuckled heartily :
Definitely putting in my interest here. WWI is one of the most fascinating and criminally underrated (if a war can be underrated) of all time periods and wars.

I'm thinking about playing on the French side, probably a simple village boy from the south of France.
Tentative interest, I'd like some more info on what we'd actually be doing
@Darkmatter Of course, and I wouldn't want it to be! But I'm excited to see what you have in store ^u^
Throwing my interest in here, love me some CG
I'm torn! On the one hand, I think it'd be extremely interesting and challenging to play as the Elites---but I've also been swayed by your explanation for why you believe the Failures would be the best course, @FiroIV.

I'm still leaning towards Elites but at this point, either one would be great. I really like the concept of this RP so tbh I don't care which way we go. I'll start planning a CS for both possibilities.

If we go for Elites, I'd definitely like to play the group doctor/medical professional (though I'm no professional myself).

If we go for Failures, I have in mind a formerly successful lawyer or something such who bankrupted himself trying to pay for his wife (or daughter's idk) treatments (cancer? something like that) and was charged for small-time theft to help out. I think it'd be interesting to play a character who was formerly an "Elite" brought low by their own misdeeds, or simply by sheer unluckiness. His skill as a lawyer could make him valuable as a leader---however, a history of instability and his own fall from grace could make him unreliable/arrogant and bring him into tension with the rest of the group.
Please tell me this is not dead, I would love to be involved in this.

Would love to play as Qing China, Persia, or Joseon
I think both would be interesting to play as, but imo the Elites would be somewhat more challenging from a writer's perspective. Playing as the Failures basically writes itself---it would be a simple thing to come up with realistic, flawed characters and play them off of one another. But playing as seemingly "perfect" specimens and folding in more subtle flaws and undertones I think would be a bit more difficult, in a good way!

So my vote's for the Elites. But both would be fun!

If we're going for Elites, I've kind of come up with a quasi-character concept (still need to fill in the finer details). How about a character who is otherwise perfect (I mean in ability, not in personality), that is, despite passing all of the screening, diagnosed with a rare disease of some kind partway through the mission sound? Perhaps he/she could be playing some kind of important role, and would have hid his/her condition from the others. I think it would be interesting seeing how the group would contend with the situation, and playing as a character who must deal with its consequences/his own ineptitude. Or would that not work out? Tell me what you think!
